- I got a new beater car! It's a low mileage 1995 Manual Transmission Honda Passport, aka Isuzu Rodeo. It's super dirty, so I'm going to clean it up and make it presentable. Drop a comment below and tell me what you think of my new ride.

Keep the rust away and you have a tank. I have a -97 v6 5 speed 4 wd..
I have now close to 300,000 miles on mine....same alternator, same waterpump, same exhust system , same starter, same AC system, same radiators...etc etc....
Spray where you can, rust blockers....
The vehicle responds very well to somewhat bigger diameter tires, and if you have fairly aggresive tire thread, you will never get stuck....no need to go so big that you need to cut into the fenders, you WILL get what you are anticipating by simply put as big as possible, tires, without cutting anything....also be very conservative with raising everything up...as low Center of Gravity as possible.
If you burst your timing belt...no worries, its a non interference engine...line it up, and toss a new timing belt and you are back in business.
A help spring, in the back, raising up the rear 2 inches will stiffen up stuff in the rear.
One weak side...as the engine grow old and worn...it starts to weaken...and tick....
Its a weird rocker arm system that makes it wear on a long common fulcrum rod...where rocker arms balance on....the cam is good, but all the slop in then rocker arms system will make the valves not dip as deep as they were designed to do.
That holds true for a worn engine...at 120, 130,000 miles you still have a way to go...no worries.
If you eventually decide on pulling the engine...a rebuild, bearing, gaskets O rings , seals, AND...pistons and rings....you can find for about 350 bucks.
The main advice....the vehicle is a tank...but rust, rust, rust....do all the trick in the book to rust protect it.
As time goes by, you will grow into it...winter time it will be your go to vehicle. If you can resist as much as possible to do a mud monster or rock crawler, the ability of the vehicle will make it a very good off roader and a day to day "get arounder" at the same time.
Good luck.
Thanks for all the info. My engine has one really good tick. I need to get in there and fix it at some point
Loved seeing Blue stroll through to give his approval at the end❤❤❤. Nice work on the detail. I bet its great working in the new shop
Ya he makes a lot of appearances in my videos. Thank you for the compliments. The new shop is awesome. its like a dream come true.
I think I saw this on Facebook I live in va, I also have a 95.5 rodeo I’ve owned first gens for 7 years now I can tell you the rarest things on the first gens are the middle console lids and insert, pre converter, and ofc the fender flares, careful with frame rust with these comes with brake/ fuel/ evap lines rusting aswell gas tank always has rust in them, let alone trying to get inside the tank with those stupid Phillips heads screws that break, I replaced those with hex screw for future easy replacement ,gas gauge goes out, was a task figuring out how to do extended shackles, you’ll need 21mm washer for lower ball joints for the cotter pin to fit snug, new shocks are thicker the shock bracket in the front needs to be barely grinded down to not rub
Cool, good to hear from someone that has experience with these. I have a couple of the fender flares still intact. Pre Converter? The frame is not rusted through anywhere, but definitely more rusty than I would like.
@@DJsHotRodFab the pre converter is the part connected to the converter closest to front side it’s meshed to create backpressure if your going to replace converter be careful removing that part it’s worth $800+, also the pipe going to the manifold with the flex pipe on it is also rare I can’t find anywhere on internet, ofc you can aftermarket if you have the welding skills. Keep those flares maybe u can find the other 2 at junkyard
I have a '97. Just had to replace the gas tank and it was the WORST. Do y'all have any recommendations on the fender flares? The ones up front are fine, but the rear ones are in rough shape. So far haven't found any after market ones. Tips, tricks would be awesome.
I got an automatic 2000 Isuzu Trooper, I know its a different vehicle but its known to burn oil, I have to add close to 2 quarts every 3-4 weeks. Besides that issue its been a soild vehicle for the past 7yrs. No other problems or issues aside for it also being a gas guzzler. I always wanted the body style Rodeo you have, they have such a strong rugged appearance imo
Haha, that's funny, I was originally looking for the one you have because it has coil suspension.
Had one . Loved it
Its been pretty good so far.
Just found your channel. I also have a Honda Passport 1995. Cant wait to see what you will do to your so i can get ideas for mine :) i am taking mine to get the transmission rebuilt so hopefully it will be okay. But they are amazing vehicles. Have had mine for 6 years
Thanks for watching. I definitely have some plans
Had my 97 honda passport 25 years nice suvs
The engine and transmission are made by Chevy. The transmission is a 4l30e
Thanks. Mine is a manual transmission.
Only the first 2 years they came out 91/92 they had the Chevy v6
Dude that’s a 95 & 1/2! That’s a score. I had a green one. Unfortunately I totaled it in an accident. Sure wish I had it back.
Can you school me on what makes it a 95 1/2?
@@DJsHotRodFab They updated the dash & interior for 95 & 1/2. I think that’s the first year for airbags too. Not positive on that part but they definitely came in handy for me.
Think I have the brother or sister to this same color and wheels only it is titled as a 1994 a v 6 with manual tranny 4 wheel drive just no sun roof which I am glad of that been great only replaced the power steering line and even the A/C works great. Love it decent gas milage too.
New sub be looking for the upgrades you do to yours. BTW mine has a sticker made in Indiania but a rebadged Honda built mostly by Isuzu on the truck frame.
Awesome. I'm excited to make some improvements to this truck. Thanks for subscribing and watching
@@DJsHotRodFab Very welcome glad to see another one saved from the EV Evangelists . Mine had 4 intact wheel guards till I parked it a couple days in a lot near a high traffic area and some one tried to steal them and broke a couple so be doing what you did as a result.Noticed the rust yours had in the lower rear think only on one side mine has a little frame rust not bad but body is great . Used to be able to get the exact paint color from a Honda or Rodeo parts place don't know for now.
You have a great garage mine is long gone divorce settlement. Hard to find these and some parts but search and find most anything.
Bro do you know where or how to read the check engine codes on this thing?
I don’t know why you would take off that sticker? Lol😂
😂
9:13 your hand touched the hole
😂😂😂 I guess it didn't feel like a hole
Interesting story. It's actually made by honda chevy and Isuzu 😂 It's a goulash of a truck or you can call it a mutt.
Sometimes those are the best ones. Remember when Jeeps were made by AMC?
Nice gambler/hooptiex?
A Japanese car that's less than 20 years old isn't much of a gamble. 😆
@@DJsHotRodFab depends on it's history though...
@@pigasus_1 very true. This one is in pretty good shape with less than 140,000 miles
