That oil was so clean coming out of that crank case. Mine was the darkest Dinosaur syrup you've ever seen. It was also in my generator for 12 years, used 8 times for a total of 61 hours over that period of time. Glad I changed it.
Awesome video. Im about to do the same.
, i have the 8750 model. Had it a couple yrs but never had to really use it. I just started using it basically every day since march 2023 for my Mobile Detailing Business. But I'm using it now to power my house. Hurricane Idalia just came through. But no damage for us just power. But its done great. I've powered my central AC unit ( by itself) but all at once i ran water heater, well pump, lights all rooms, refrigerator and deep freezer.
These generators are work horses.
Tin roller paint trays work well under generators and motorcycles to drain oil into.
I was just thinking about that
I have the same generator and was running for 4 days because of the power outage. Thank you so much for showing me how to change the oil for this machine that has save us.
❤❤❤❤❤
Beryl?
You should look at the owner's manual to make sure you don't over fill it. You don't want to over fill it. You check the oil level with the unit on level ground and just place the oil stick inside the hole (don't screw it in). The level is full with the oil register 3/4 of the way to the top of the dip stick.
Great video, I bought the same generator last year from Harbor Freights discount counter but it didn't come with a owner manual. I didn't realize that nut was a oil drain plug, thanks for the information.
Just as a heads up to new owners of this machine or others like it-if you put in too much oil, it seems as though it may leak through the dipstick and start to drip from the bottom of the crankcase. This happened to me the first time I broke it in (ran for 3 hours with light load) and it was very upsetting to think that my brand new generator could have a bad gasket seal or something. Then I started it up a second time (after a little oil had been burned off) and there was no oil dripping from the bottom. So just make sure you put the right amount of oil in and don’t be alarmed if it starts to drip from the crankcase if you did overfill it. And remember to insert the dipstick and NOT thread it in to ascertain the correct oil levels!
If you over fill the oil, it will come out the breather and appear to have a leak.
Thanks
you are life savior
I bought this Predator 9000 from Harbor freight. 2 days later, gas shutoff petcock started leaking fluid on the ground in off position. Take notice, there is no screws to remove to replace the O-Ring in the petcock. MFg used revits instead of screws. Requiring you to replace the entire petcock instead of replacing a 39 cent O-Ring. Ridiculous! I paid $799 for this Predator and that's not including the $100 battery and $100 wheel kit that it didn't come with. All together I paid $1400 including the extended warranty plan with Harbor freight. I had to return the generator for a exchange. Which was a pain! I had to remove the wheel kit, drain all the oil and gas out in order to get a exchange. Then, travel 60 miles to find a store that has another Predator 9000 in stock for me to get a exchange. Harbor freight refused to order me a exchange generator. I paid over $400 for the extended warranty plan. I only had the generator for 2 days. Harbor freight would not transfer the warranty plan to the exchange generator. Required me to pay another $400 for another warranty plan. Which is bullshit. These Predators are 100 💯 percent junk. You get what you pay for that is junk. Poor quality workmanship.

We have used the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!
Hey! Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I’m new to this country life and learning as I go. This was very helpful to a single woman that knows nothing. I’m a new subscriber as well. Bless you!
One step at a time right?
Thank you so very much. Very informative. I asked The Harbor Freight person about where the drain plug was and he told me it didn't have one. He told me that I needed to syphon the oil out. Another thing he told me was that I needed to run the generator at first for one hour. After one hour, drain the oil and then putting that oil back in. I looked at the manual today and I can't see that.
Follow the manual.. it may have been his first day on the job.
⚠️Rules about generator safety: This is a very important announcement that everyone needs to know just to make sure.
It is important to follow all generator safety rules whenever we use portable generators:
Everyone must see this. This is just a reminder for everyone’s safety.
1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards.
2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house.
3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules.
4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords.

Hope this helps. Please make sure you follow all the generator safety tips. Thank you
@@The_Happy_Aviation_Enthusiast whats a generator tent? Just a reg tent you use for the generator? Thanks👍
The Predator manual claims there is a drain plug on the bottom of the unit. Yet I spent a good hour searching all over the unit and couldn't find any drain plug.
Great video! Straight to the point. Thank you.
Thanks for the video & good info.
I had mine for about a year and it’s been great for me.
Great video bruh! Predators are lit generators!!!!
Nobody ever killed an engine by over servicing it 👍🏻🇬🇧
000
just picked one of these up on the Memorial Day sale and was wondering about the drain plug. Thanks for the vid! Foam air filters work best with a little bit of oil on them. the oil will capture the dust particles. put a few drops of oil in a plastic bag and squish the filter around in it. You would not put oil on a paper style filter just the foam ones like you see here.
Great video this helped resolve my issue with mine! Thank You!!
How many hours of use does the manufacturer suggest that the oil needs to be changed? 40, 60 or 80 hours? Thanks
Why does this unit not have a oil filter???..The life of the engine..good video. Thank you.
The manual on mine says, after you wash the air filter, it says to let it completely dry out, then apply clean engine oil and squeeze excess before putting it back.
Tx for video. Could figure out where to drain oil. Now only problem is I can't get bolt off, it's too tight.
Probably good to chuck a new spark plug in each year as well....
where did you get the battery bracket?
How often do you use your generator? I have the same unit works good
The one question I have for the maintenance is how do you clean the spark respirator on this particular brand of generator because I have the 13,000 W try fuel and the spark Restorator is clogged
I have the 4550 which is a similar design, and the instruction manual claims I'm supposed to remove both the "drain bolt" and the "drain plug" in order to change the oil. It also claims the "drain plug" is on the bottom of the machine, even though the diagram shows that it's on the side where you drained it. So many inconsistencies.
what do you use to clean the filter when you wash it ?
????????
Need 2 no
What about the spark plug
Thanks for the video. That's a weird location and orientation for a drain plug. It looks like a mounting bolt in solid metal, plus it's horizontal instead of vertical like most drain plugs.
What's weird is the manual actually claims the "drain plug" is on the bottom of the unit. Yet it seems there is no drain plug at all, only a drain bolt.
"Lift and tilt the Generator. Remove the Drain Plug on the bottom of the machine. then set the Generator back down on a level surface."
"Place an oil drain pan under the Generator and center under the Drain Plug opening. Remove the Oil Drain Bolt, tilt the Generator slightly to facilityate drainage and wait for oil to d rain completely."
This had me so confused why to drain the oil you would need to remove both a drain plug and a drain bolt. Yet all I could find on my machine was a drain bolt. Add to the fact, the manual diagram calls the drain bolt a "drain plug" and shows it on the side of the unit. However, the instructions above claim it's on the bottom.
They really need someone to properly edit their manual.
I like your old Cub Cadet lawn mower.
Are there any other fluids that be to be replaced
Alright so I have the predator 6500. And I have… 1 hour on it, maybe?? Little less than an hour run time.
Walked into the garage today and there’s a huge puddle of oil under it. I can’t tell where it coming from… This is my first generator and having to deal with anything like this. I do appreciate any help in advance. Thanks!
I just cut the top of a juice bottle that fit between the ground and frame. Might save you from screwing around with jacks and pans...
Awesome advice! Thank you.
Great video, thank you.
how would you drain the gas out the gas tank on predator 8750?
Why did u change from 10-30 to 5 30?
Sir, i have a question. The rated output of my Honda gasoline generator is 0.75kva .How much mileage it would give , if i put half load (50%) on it . Can you tell?
Thanks buddy 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Any time!
Awesome. Thanks man.
Helped tons bud thanks!!
I can't get the bolt loose to change the oil. Any ideas?
Hello I have oil inside my air filter. Is it normal ?
Great video I'll be ready for the next BLACKOUT..thxs
Thank you sir.
Next time buy the 10 inch wheel kit not the 8 inch. Oil pan slides right under no jacking up. Suggest replacing front legs with 3 inch rotating locking casters too to level it out and make moving around easier.
I know...I wish I would have. Tried to save a few bucks.
search generator handles on amazon bolt each side instead of trying to swing a 250 pd back and forth with one lol.
Spark plug?
Haven't needed one yet, but easily replaced if needed.
Mine is dirty what can I wash my filter with
Thank you!
how long does the battery last ? and how often do you charge it?
I think it’s more like a car battery. I’ve never charged mine in the four years I’ve owned my predator
I've never charged it in 3 years and it works perfectly.
If you would have removed the dipstick it would have broke the syphon and drained a lot faster. Just my $.02
You are right. Thought of that as I was doing it. I usually do. Was too focused on trying not to mess up the video. Thanks for watching.
You da man! Thanks
I have a 6500 that I'm running 24 7 how often do I need to change the oil
You should be changing after every 24 hours of run time.
get an Hour Meter and change it every 50 - 100 hours.
Thank you. Next time please indicate the size of the deep socket wrench used for the drain plug. My 3/8 was too small and 7/16 too big.
He did. @1:22
Have you ever noticed the oil being really dark even with very little use. I broke mine in for two hours and changed the oil. Also the used oil smells like gas. Would love to hear your experience. I’m pretty sure this isn’t normal.
The first oil change will be black mine was after 30 mins ! This is due to the assembly grease used when it was built also some fine swarf is normal. Change oil again after another 5 hours then as per instruction book.
If your oil smells like gas you should check your float needle in the carburetor.

Why is there a fuel line going from the fuel tank to the air filter? Mine is pouring fuel out of it
It's vent. And you probably overfilled the tank and don't have it level. Going to the air filter burns odd the vapors.
Great video, how often do you recommend to do the oil change? Thanks
Every 20 hours of use.
@@TheCookFamilyHomestead Thank you very much for the info.
Every 20 hrs ???So you can't run it a full day without changing oil...must be type O ...no way
@@timboone9051 all generators are like that.
If you change your oil from the factory type (plain ole' conventional oil) after a break in, to Valvoline 10w-30 Synthetic Blend, High Mileage, you can operate it for 50 hrs between oil changes.
Does everyone else's drip oil as soon as they pull the dip stick to check the oil?
Yup. Probably a tad too much oil.

The Predator 9000 oil fill directions are confusing. They show a picture of the oil reservoir almost full. If you look carefully at their owner manual picture, there is a small amount of air/space above the oil. Keep a couple millimeters of space above the oil so it can expand when it heats, otherwise it will overflow. Oil expands considerably when heated. The dipstick hashmarks are goofy and difficult to understand.
No oil filter on this unit?
No, it's like a snowblower or walk behind lawnmower.
I'm still laughing my guy jacked it up. Hahah. Just getting the jack under it I'm sure was a pain in the d***.. The pred 9000 isn't light when youre by yourself. Hahah
5W20 vs 5W30?
After break in I use 5w 30 full synthetic
I'll take that oil that ur draining 😂😂
Thought you're supposed to run the generator and heat up the oil then drain it? Lol
I did.
Get this:
www.drainzit.com/
I see a few flaws with this oil change video. (1): You don't fill the engine with oil to the top! That's over filing the crankcase. Take notice, your oil fill cap has a dip stick! Giving you the oil level reading by using the dip stick. (2): when draining the oil, remove the oil fill cap. Doing so, will allow air into the crankcase to allow all the oil to drain properly. You should always follow the break in period oil changes. And use the correct weight of oil that's stated by the MFg. A magnet oil drain plug is required with these Predators. If you haven't, order one. A Warning with these Predators. Gas shut off pitcock is known to leak gas while in shutoff position. Due to poor quality parts.
Zero flaws with this. 100 percent correct. You are wrong. Changed the oil a bunch of times. Oil is 100 percent the correct type. Thanks for chiming in.
I thought the same thing when I first got my generator but believe it or not the dipstick reads perfect. Even though the oil looks wildly high
if you're going to do a, "how to" video, show the RIGHT way!!!! What did you do wrong,,ask me. I'll respond
I'm good. But thanks for watching.
Does it come with a air filter ?
Yes it does.
