Ironic that in the final segment of Bowser's first phase, he is an enemy and the only small Chain Chomp in the game and is required to be used to knock Bowser off using a Tail/Shiny Tail sticker when it attacks to finish the fight.

@@WarpChaosEven if he did change the game to what it is today, it still wouldn't fix the biggest issue with this game. The sticker system looks near identical to the final release, which is not good. If the final release traded the cool stuff in this trailer for a better battle system, that wouldn't be an issue, but it didn't.
If it was not on the 3DS I see these being more likely possible. But there was the fact that during that time Nintendo wanted Paper Mario to be simpler all around. Maybe one day we can get a Sticker Star remake the way most Paper Mario fans want for that game. That would be incredible because the game really uses assets from TTYD.

Keeping the attack stats for badges and moves precise is essential for the more strategic nature of the game compared to... Mario & Luigi, which is more focused on execution. An attack can always be expected to do a specific amount of damage based on defense.

Miyamoto considered this basically a handheld version of the first 2 PM titles, especially The Thousand-Year Door. Also, him not being into Super Mario Bros. games having too much narrative. Those things are credited with the final product of Sticker Star being what it is. I loved Sticker Star, though I feel the execution of the formula should have been a little better. I remember seeing this trailer, and the associated screenshots.
Man, it feels so refreshing to finally get this lost footage. Back when Sticker Star WASN'T the worst Mario game of all time, and instead it looked like a Paper Mario game for 3DS. (Though the stickers are still being used for combat. Ewwwww...)
My hope is that Nintendo makes a modern paper mario game with classic paper mario elements like unique characters and partners (new and returning) while keeping it's arts and craft aesthetic and origami king's battle system so that the classic fans and the modern fans can finally get along

This game would’ve benefitted from this cut content. I understand Miyamoto didn’t want the game to stray too far from the Mario brand, but stuff like the Mole King and the Chain Chomp partner would’ve helped.
I love that they reused the scenery of 64, it looks so cool on a 3DS, and the music is all catchy (the final one is great as well). Some of the 3D effects on actual 64 objects and even animations looked fabulous, shame it all went in the trash... dunno why Miyamoto hated it...
I used to be subscribed to Nintendo Power you years ago and a lot of these pictures were in the magazine I was so hyped for this game and when it came out I was so disappointed. Man they absolutely demolished any chance this game whatever be good. I try to go back and play all the Paper Mario games in order every other year when I get to sticker star I can't help but feel like I'm playing a game for a child with how basic it is.
I wish the final game was like this. The official Sticker Star was just a huge disappointment and was really confusing. At least the music is good and the graphics are alright.
Honestly, this game was extremely lucky to be commercially successful (sold nearly as well as M&L Dream Team), despite development being a total mess (and being despised by the hardcore fans). And Paper Mario continued on, while AlphaDream collapsed. Probably because Intelligent Systems still had Fire Emblem, while AlphaDream had nothing else.

Sticker star and color splash aren't as bad as you think. I know it's not the same as the first two, but every paper mario doesn't have to be like ttyd. They probably scrapped this to try something new and change up the formula a bit. It's still the same battle system, just with cards or stickers. I beat ttyd for Switch, and I liked it. I played sticker star and color splash and didn't mind the battle system. It's still the same. I honestly think origami king is the worst because of how different the battle system is with lining up the rings. And fighting the bosses are kind of tedious. I just think it's unnecessary. The rest of the game is fine though. But it's fine to have your own opinions.

Considering the direction Color Splash and Origami King took (even if I still love those games), it should've been pretty obvious the answer to your hopes is "No"
Sticker Star as we know it, in its...interesting state, is a mess. Your charity stream definitely showed me how badly designed the game was. It's hard to say for sure how much of this early footage is indicative of a possibly different game it would've turned out to be. The turn-based battles shown here definitely look more similar to the first two games, so there was an attempt to return to the series' roots after the somewhat divisive Super. There's even a partner! Who's to say what could've been? It's fun to wonder about a world in which we would've gotten a better Sticker Star.

I think they should remake Sticker Star and bring back some the scrapped ideas, add some unique characters, enemies and rework the sticker mechanic.

I sound like a broken record, but Paper Mario as a series was a whole lot better when it was *either* an RPG or action-adventure platformer.
