I really hate that the Asian dolls get increasingly westernized as time goes on, i had a really hard time finding a true Vietnamese doll with tan skin and eyes that are not hazel. I feel like the miko dolls from the 80s are the most true representation of south east asians.
Thank you so much for watching 😍thank you for your support because sometimes I get frustrated with my channel and don't want to do it. But comments like this keep me going. thank you.🥰😘😍
Please go below l have some video about Ken dolls. I'm just thinking about doing the same video about different characters of Ken's dolls. Thanks for watching)
I mean yes black representation matters. But do dose Asian representation. And honestly Asian dolls are far more under represented in dolls then there other conterparts. Especially in Asia. In Korea where the population is 98% Korean and the homeland and orgin of where koreans come from. Dolls here are very Eurocentric. Even the domesticated dolls like mimi have very Eurocentric features comparitive to that of what koreans actually look like. And while I understand the anime aesthetics that most koreans love. It's hard to ignore that most of these charters are based on white people. Mimi might be culturally Korean but she is still white. And barbie aslo fails to bring diversity into Korea where in the us and abrod diversity has been it's main focus. And barbie aslo fails to adapt herself culturally to the Korean market this why barbies popularity in Korea is very underground the only dolls I've seen push any sort of representation and have been popular is the lol omg dolls in Korea. The lol babies are very popular in Korea and not only that the dolls arnt focused on a single charter but a surprise factor in what charter you will receive. Not to mention these dolls are usually coloctable based so what ever the charters that are out in stock are the charters being sold (yes including the black ones) and it's something I've never seen done in Asia. But while this is a great way to show case diversity in dolls to children. My only problem is that there still is a lack in Asian dolls available to girls and boys in Asia who might want a doll that looks and represents themselves. Barbie could be that doll but knowing how mattle markets it's dolls internationally I don't see that happening anytime soon
Hi. I completely agree and thank you very much for the comment. In fact, it is. Definitely Barbie Asians are in the minority. Even the Asian dolls that are now appearing need to be replaced or reorganized. When I made a video about Myanmar's Barbie dolls, it was almost impossible to find them and the ones I found were as similar as possible to Asians, but their molds was from the 80s and 90s. Now Mattel will focus on quantity, not quality and need a separate approach to mold dolls. Indeed, Barbie's faces are very diverse now, but the Asians dolls produce by Mattel do have some European features.
I agree with you and honestly never understood why! Take for example Totally Hair barbie who was made white in both blonde and brunette version and then in black for Brazil and other countries but for asian market they did only the white blonde version and not even the brunette one! That's so weird! Why? Was it so hard to do an asian Totally Hair barbie for asian countries? And we have the same problem here in Italy (as well as in the rest of southern Europo) where the majority of the population it's white but with dark hair and most of the time we only had blonde barbies with blue eyes, most of all in the 80's when I was a kid and all my barbies where blonde with blue eyes. I've seen that mattel made some of my childhood barbies in brunette version with hazel eyes who would have been perfect in Italy since dark hair with hazel eyes are very common here, but this versions were almost unknown here and never arrived! You have a whitecentric dolls in Korea and we have blondecentric dolls in Italy.
Hi. I'm glad to talk to you. In fact, in my video, I paid a lot of attention to the doll - Barbie's Asian friend. But I did not mention the number of Barbie dolls that characterize such Asian nationalities as India, Thailand, Korea and so on... Basically, it's the Barbie doll of the world. But there are other categories. But , having studied a little bit about this topic, I'm just so happy that Asian dolls are very numerically represented by Matel. Thank you!!!
When was the cartoon "Barbie and Life in the Dream House" released in 2009-2012. It was then that the story about Raquel's Asian roots came from various sources. However, this is only partially Asian and not in all time periods of this character. Thank you)
@@BMND-barbie ah, I always knew that it was official that she was Asian, for me it was a little obvious since her face mold was used in Asian dolls, like the Asian one from a mermaid tale 2, and the president of 2012, outside also the context of her winning highlighted right away when Lea disappeared, but I always wanted to read an official source talking about it, wouldn't you have a link?
I am not sure that these sources are official. It's just that when I was collecting information about Raquel, I came across such a legend on various sites. And it's a pity that Raquel disappeared. I want the return of Raquel, and I would also really like to find the official primary sources of her origin. Somehow I got in touch with Mattel Creators, thinking of getting certain sources of information about the brand from them. But they only congratulated my work.😀😍❤
