The Wednesday Morning Tournament is great! Question: Either Gavin or Bob said we should be learning to "count." Please explain more what you meant. Thanks!
Counting covers a lot of different things but basically it’s remembering all the cards that have been played, what information you have about the hidden hands from the auction and the play, and using that information to visualize the rest of the cards that you can’t see. At a basic level it’s remembering how many cards in each suit have been played and how many cards in each suit are remaining, in addition to knowing which honors have been played from each suit. At an advanced level, it’s knowing how many HCP each hand has shown in the auction and how many HCP each hand has shown in the play, and the same for suit lengths, to visualize the rest of the hidden cards.
Regarding volume, I think the issue is that Rob uses more range of volume, whereas Gavin is more even in volume. Its not a technical issue, more an issue of Rob going down in volume when he makes extended cimmentary. Listen between 41 and 43 mins for an example of this. I will just turn my volume up overall, because Rob is prob not aware of his natural variation in this kind of chatty game. When Rob presents lessons, as on bid box etc, he speaks with less variation of volume.

Are the tournaments computerized?
Can someone play without hands?
