I had the pleasure of visiting Winchester Cathedral in 2000. The most beautiful cathedral I have visited to date. The organist was practicing for a wedding that day, so I was able to enjoy an organ recital as a bonus that special day. I dedicate this exquisite piece of music to my beloved brother, best friend and soulmate Jim, who left the earthly plane on April 26, 2024. Until we meet again, I love you Jim. My Heart. ♥️
There's something on this master piece that makes me feel like I'm in other world. I never get tired is this song... It sounds like been in heaven.....
Jesus Alberto Morillo Garcia At the burial the body is carried to the grave and the following is sung: In paradisum deducant te Angeli: in tuo Adventu suscipiant te Martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctum Jerusalem. I listened to an old Desert island discs this week with Jeremy Brett. He had this played after the death of his wife. Jeremy is also gone now, but thankyou Jeremy for introducing me to it. May you rest in peace.
Been looking for the slowest version & this is truly perfect! This is how a soul prays...slow and almost suspended in time...in continuous prayer and love. That is what heaven is.
Such a beautiful comment that gives me peace as I grieve the loss of my beloved brother, best friend and soulmate who left the earthly plane on April 26, 2024. Until we meet again, I love you Jim. My Heart. ♥️
@31Alden My dear, I send my condolences to you in this time of grief. My beloved mother passed away 3 years ago & insisted this piece for her funeral when we were preparing services a year before. At the funeral it was sung very slowly by a tenor with the most angelic voice. I hope you receive comfort in this piece by Faure as it did to me. I will pray for your brother Jim & also for you as you go through this difficult time. God bless you my dear.
@@solarmax11 How very kind of you to respond to my comment. Thank you. The service for your mother with this moving piece performed slowly by a tenor sounds wonderful with a lot of thought and care invested in it. You fulfilled her wish and gave her a wonderful send off via Faure’s exquisite composition. As you noted, this piece comforts me and smooths the rough edges of my grief which is profound. I’ve buried both of my parents, but never a beloved sibling which changes the playing field altogether as we came from the same “tribe” if you will. I deeply appreciate your prayers for my beloved Jim who will be laid to rest on September 26th with his sister standing at his grave in reverence, respect and great love. Again … thank you. PS: I had the pleasure of visiting Winchester Cathedral in 2000 during which time the organist was practicing for a wedding later that day. The cathedral was filled with wedding flowers, the white runner in the center aisle was in place, I wished I could have stayed for the wedding! I’ve visited and been inside many beautiful cathedrals, but Winchester Cathedral ranks as my favorite for its beauty and rich history.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I'm manfully fighting back the tears now. Anyone who isn't familiar with the whole of the Faure Requiem should seek it out. There are plenty of versions on here. The work is quite simply divine...
+ComposerInUK I discovered Faure yesterday, I've listened to this and Cantique de Jean Racine. I'm amazed such beautiful music exists. Really interested in finding more!
I am a father of two boy's and a grandfather to another but those lovely faces giving their all to that piece makes me think that there may just be chance for this wicked world. I do hope so for the sake of us all.
Every now and then a piece of music stops you in your tracks and you are not sure when its over if you were breathing for the last few minutes.... beautiful.
I would love to express the same sentiments but I know Hell shall await me if I died in this moment so, no matter how lovely this moment is, almost like witnessing the Glory of God and his peace, I know that when I die I won't see him if I do not make my peace with him now.
This was played at my wedding as i was signing the register , it was played twice and i remember looking around and seeing grown people cry. no words can describe how beautiful this is.
This was played at my daughters funeral last week as they carried her coffin out of the church I chose it along with my son who was a choirboy when he was little boy
This, the last movement of Faure's Requiem, was intended by the composer to depict the peace and beauty of the Heavenly afterlife. I don't know any other piece of music so completely successful in this.
Divinely inspired from deep in the soul-beautiful , beautiful ,I played it at my mothers funeral which was just right for it is rare to find someone with so much selfless love as she had. Rest in peace with the angels of love to look over you ,you dear soul mum
These kids will be in their late fifties now. I wonder how much the riches of their early musical life with such a repertoire, has been of benefit in the ups and downs of their lives. Reckon its been immense.
I love the tempo that the director decided for this absolutely beautiful piece of choral music. The tempo allowed me to savor every delicious moment of this piece. "Hats off".
Superb. Quality excellent. Hard to believe but those boys ste now probably in their 40s with children of their own at a similar age. No doubt they have achieved well in life too. Thanks again.
REAAAALLLLY slow performance, but beautifully effective, and the boys' ability to sustain those looooooonnnnngg phrases is simply amazing. It sounds heavenly. So few of those choirs come close to sounding like that today. Thanks for posting this. Interesting and a pleasure to listen to.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. I know it might sound a bipod but I am going to have this piece of music fr my funeral. Who cant be moved by this. I just love listening to it.
What memories, memorable recording I think is one of the best recordings of this exquisite catholic cantata (requiem mass) thank you for uploading it to UA-cam 😊
It's a Catholic prayer too, hence the Latin. I'm in a church choir and this is one we are often asked to do for funerals. This arrangement is such a beautiful piece, it really captures the spirit of the prayer.
Wow I always hear this and it is the first time where technically if this is the requiem composition is the one for your requiem mass the request shall be fulfilled.
I think I'm going to assign whatever it takes from whatever money there is when I die to make sure an excellent boy choir sings this at my funeral. The rest of what's left over goes to the charitable services of their church.
Should mention that this BBC production carried marvellous commentary introducing this placidly beautiful work and between each section, delivered so tastefully by the late John Gielgud. It added greatly to the excellence of the production -- without in any way detroying the continuity of this superb performance. Too bad the entire performance -- including the commentary -- isn't available on youtube.

I totally agree, heard this about forty years ago, it never ever ages, it is not if any time, amen.
Any person who is not moved by this piece, quite simply has no soul.

Já disse isso a mim mesmo tantas vezes, ouvindo esta maravilha de Fauré!
Thank you for the sentiment, Johann ... Couldn't have expressed it any better
With a comment like that you deserve a good more 70 or 80 (in good health, of course).

This, the last movement of Faure's Requiem, was intended by the composer to depict the peace and beauty of the Heavenly afterlife. I don't know any other piece of music so completely successful in this.
This is chanted after the Mass during the procession to the cemetery near the church, or if it is far away probably at the cemetery
I mean the music basically says: congrats, you made all level ups, welcome to heaven, and you suddenly feel like you did a good job
Try Schubert's C Major Quintet - Adagio... Written just before his death. Which is not to deny the magnificence of Faure's 'In Paradisum'
Maurice Durufle's Requiem is sublime
Divinely inspired from deep in the soul-beautiful , beautiful ,I played it at my mothers funeral which was just right for it is rare to find someone with so much selfless love as she had. Rest in peace with the angels of love to look over you ,you dear soul mum
It's kids singing this - boys, no less, and they're into it, one can tell. It must be wonderful to be able to participate in something like this.
I listened to this on Classic FM not too long ago whilst driving home from work and it was so relaxing, its a very emotional song, and I loved it,
what a serenely slow tempo - i wouldn't want to ever hear it any other way - makes it sound even more beautiful
These kids will be in their late fifties now. I wonder how much the riches of their early musical life with such a repertoire, has been of benefit in the ups and downs of their lives. Reckon its been immense.
Brings back Memories of Singing this in St Botolph outside Bishopsgate London

One could say the voices of heavenly angels!
This song tells me what was waiting for my nieces and sister.cousin on and on ..they all are there
It's a Catholic prayer too, hence the Latin.

Very nice. This is traditionally to be sung during the burial I believe so after the actual Mass, is that how it is done when your choir sings it?
