A bittersweet memory of Ricky Van Shelton. My late mom was a BIG fan of him. My grandmother was dying of cancer in the mid 90s. She was a die hard Christian and watched the TBN network constantly. Her and mom was watching one day when RVS was on talking about his album "Don't overlook salvation " and she made the mention of how she'd like to have it. Well, fast forward to November of that year, the Monday following Thanksgiving my grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep. By her wishes she was to be buried by sunset (no religious ties to such far as I'm aware. Her desire was to not be embalmed so that was deemed necessary) but we buried her According to her wishes. Upon returning home we checked the mail to find a small box. Enclosed was the RVS cassette mom had wanted. She cried like something awful and played it until she wore it out.
Chris went through a nasty divorce and his passion dropped, I’m sure she gets a portion of his royalties so can’t blame him, she gave birth to another man’s child towards the end of the marriage. Can’t blame him for not wanting to give her more money.

Sylvia was one of the hottest rising stars in 1982. My sister and I and some friends saw Sylvia in concert in 1983. A very lovely woman with a great voice. Don't know what happened to her. Miss her voice greatly.
I just saw her this fall at a small casino in WI. She still sounds the same and looks fantastic! It was a very small gathering so I got to see her up close. She is making her own albums now and has a web site if you are interested. She has done a children's album and redone/styled her hits on another.
So many of those hits are the ones I grew up listening to on the radio sitting there with my dad, it is no wonder now that most of them have disappeared that when I do listen to music it is country musics past not present!
It should be noted that the music business simply isn’t the same as it once was. A lot of these artist probably made their money and didn’t want to put up with the rat race and the BS of the business for a fraction of the pay they once received. Pennies per play on a streaming service doesn’t equal what album sales were back in the day. Today’s artist really need to have a hefty tour schedule to make big money, and tours are an expensive gamble, not to mention time consuming, and a hard family life.
It's sad to see how many great country singers there were and just left the music scene, I love the new and old country music, but still alot of the old country music was great, I play some of the old country songs I have on my playlist, Tracy Lawrence, Collin Raye, Tracy Byrd, Alabama, Dolly Parton, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, and many more great country singers that are gone, but I love alot of the new country singers
I have seen Lonestar twice. The first time it was with Cody singing & the second time was when Richie returned. They performed at a local harvest festival. They were the first band/performer to be invited more than once.
Not gone, just different. Remember, it is the young people that drive country music because they are the ones buying albums, merchandise and concert tickets. I have loved country music all of my life and I am almost 73 but it has to change with the times or it would disappear like square dancing.
@@bearball49 Exactly. I'm sick of people saying, "that's not country" blah blah. It's country, it's just evolved and is different now. Get over it people. Listen to something else if you don't like it, right?! Glad you still love it at age 73! I've loved it all my life too.
How about Juice Newton? She had a string of #1's and top ten songs in the 80's like Queen of Hearts, Angel of the morning, The Sweetest Thing and Loves Been A Little Bit Hard On Me
other country singers/bands that somehow disappeared : Gloriana, Thompson Square, The Lost Trailers, Jimmy Wayne, Phil Vassar, Love & Theft, Brett Eldredge, Kellie Pickler, Big & Rich, Randy Houser, Sugarland, Keith Anderson, Jerrod Neimann, and Montgomery Gentry (since Troy died of course)
Brett Eldredge and Randy houser are still making music. Brett dropped an album just a couple months ago and Randy has a new album dropping in November. Also, Jimmy Wayne decided to leave the country music world and to be a motivational speaker for the foster care system
@@DTVM2003 I know they’re still making music they just don’t get much recognition and aren’t as popular anymore like how they use to back in the earlier part of the 2010s decade
The Kentucky Headhunters are touring strong and never stopped. Covid put a damper on all live concerts for all artists. Check out online, you’ll find a date.
Wow, Lonestar.. they still tour all the time. There have been a number of lineup changes but still a great band. I may be partial; my old buddy Robby Wilson has been their bass player for quite a number of years now. We grew up playing music together. I knew he would make it in the music business. Aside from being a very talented person, he is the kind of guy you could stay cooped up on a tour bus with for 9 straight months and still like the guy when it was over. That is him at 6:16 in the lower right corner.
While the band Lonestar May have disappeared, Ritchie McDonald is touring with Larry Stewart and Tim Rushlow, in a band called the Frontmen. I just saw them perform live in Lancaster, PA.
I saw Lonestar in 2019 at the Frederick, MD fair with Terri Clark and they were great. Ritchie was with them. There are way too many singers for everybody to be famous. I saw the Wreckers open for Keith Urban and they were good.
The problem with these artists "disappearing" really has more to do with country radio than the artist. Let's face it, only a couple of the artists on this list play what I guess would be considered as new traditional country and country radio has swapped them out in favor of pop and r&b musicians. Country music isn't dying, it's dead. There are a few of the old school guys and a handful of new artists still flying the flag but that's pretty much it.
Chris LeDoux was definitely one of my favorites back in the day. I know he has passed away now, but kinda just disappeared from country music long before that😢
Interesting, I had front row tickets to a Lonestar concert two nights ago. The guys were awesome! Leaves me thinking your posts are less than up to date. Oh by the way, Lonestar has a record dropping later this year.
I bet really no one remembers HOT APPLE PIE! The lead singer was Brady Seals which was kinda the co singer along with Tim Rushlow of the band Little Texas! They only had the one album, but I loved it!
What about what happened to The Kinleys, The Lynn sisters, James Bonamy, Kevin Sharp, River Road, Ricochet, Eric Heatherly, Linda Davis, Robert Ellis Oral, Pirates of the Mississippi, Rick Travino, Ty England, Trick Pony, Archer Park, Michael Peterson, Darryl Dodd, Chad Brock, Lisa Brokop, Lisa Angelle, Tammy Cochran, Michelle Wright
@@rosegroshek1218 What you point out is true as is the case for others on the this list. My adding his name is only because he has no "NEW" music that gets any air play
Hopefully Brad Paisley doesn't fade in popularity. He has so many great songs and albums. Mud on the Tires is one of the best Country albums of all time, IMO, not a bad tune on that album.
@@kathystoneburner4947 How is Brad part of the "woke" BS?? Encouraging people to get their Covid vaccine was a sensible thing to do. George Strait and Dolly also encouraged folks to get vaccinated because they care about their fans. Don't know about you, but I trust King George and Dolly far more than our corrupt regimes media.
Saw Chris Cagle at Adams State University Gymnasium as a Freshman in High School...blew the roof off the place...couldn’t hear right for three days...during the concert, if I remember right he explained he was just burnt out a bit, not as young as he used to be, wanted to stay home and ride cutting horses... top five concerts I’ve been to, and I’ll always be grateful I ran back out from the college dorms we were staying in and he stuck around to autograph an album for me, the last guy in line. I also introduced two mutual friends that night, who are married now.
That remains a total mystery to me. His debut album, when he was still basically a kid, was amazing. I think he wrote all the songs, played almost all the instruments and produced the project, I think. Then he pretty much went nowhere. All that talent and initial success. What happened?
My favourite country artist who vanished was Larry Boone. He wrote great songs and his voice had a lovely warmth to it.Some of his songs were covered by George Strait and Don Williams no less.
Travis Tritt was a huge guy. You can put Kenny Chesney since he has pretty much dropped out of the scene. I still believe Gary Allen is the most under rated guy in Nashville.
yeah Chris was indeed a underatted singer. I have him on my playlist. Lonestar was great too. Another band I love back then, was Pirates of the Mississippi, Diamond Rio. Sawyer Brown. Little Texas, Hal Ketchum, Josh Gracin.

I’ve wondered what Billy Currington was doing. I miss him! He never got the recognition he deserved and he had IT ALL! His songs were great, he was hella good looking and I always loved him. I wish he’d put out another album. Can I see him touring anywhere? Thanks!
I've met Chris before and he was the nicest person ever. He wrote Miss Me Baby the day that I saw him and he sang it from a piece of paper because he just had written it.
Holly passed away in 2016, while Pam is still touring (she has toured with Lorrie Morgan, as well as Terri and Suzy Bogguss, to name a few), and Ty still makes music and performs.
So many. Andy Griggs, Clay Davidson, Lila McCann, Blaine Larson, Trent Wilmon, Trent Tomlinson, Bobby Pinson, Gretchen Wilson, Rhett Atkins, Rick Trevino, Jeff Bates, Brian McComas, Chad Brock, Doug Stone, Doug Supernaw, Brian White. And of course the late Daryle Singletary that deserved a lot better.
Doug Supernaw was a wonderful talent. I have 2 of his albums (actually cassette tapes), and they are great! He should have been bigger, but I read that he had drinking problems. His video of I Don't Call Him Daddy still makes me cry!
Many of the ones from the 80s, 90s and some before then have came out wit a music that hit some charts like Billboard Hot 50 Country, Billboard Radio Airplay Indicator, CDX and Music Row. Briam McComas is back with a band callec The Desert City Ramblers with one song reaching top 30. Tanya Tucker, Jeannie Seely, Sammy Kershaw, Travis Tritt and Joe Nicholls have new stuff out. Tracy Byrd, Ronnie Dunn, Randy Travis, Terry McBride and Mickey Gilly have hits recently on the texas chart. Billy Dean and Collin Raye have new music as well.
I worked in country radio from 1994-1998. A lot of artist came through there with high hopes. Some, like Trace Adkins, stayed around, most, like Paul Brandt, were short lived.
Danielle Peck is an artist who kind of vanished. She still performs and sings, but she never became as huge of a singer as a lot of the other artists signed to Big Machine Records.
I mean, it makes sense that lonestar wanted to do family-oriented music. They were at the age where most men chill out, settle down and prefer to spend time with the family. Rich is notorious for being a party animal. I think it's similar to the indie band mayday parade in the opposite way, their lead singer Jason Lancaster is a Christian and didn't want to be around the partying and the drugs so he formed another band that was successful in the indie scene. It happens, you grow apart from certain people. Doesn't make one side better or worse, they are just different
One of my favorite artists which unfortunately has passed away in the past years was Darrell Singleterry you really only heard that one song from him too much fun and you never heard anything else and I believe the reason why Chris Cagle quit music I remember him hearing him say ones do you have enough money in the bank and they want to spend more time with his wife and kids
@ashley1994 don’t worry about shaving my legs I don’t shave my legs at all so I don’t have to since I don’t have any hair on my legs oh well but yes there are quite a few people in the country genre that I would love to know what’s going on and where they’ve been and yes I own every album of Alabama and yes every album of Carrie underwood and a few othersOr should I say quite a few others I’m a huge country back from the 50s 60s 70s 80s and now
There’s only a handful of country artists now and I would imagine before long there won’t be any there will be just country rockers like we have now they’re more Rock Than country the only one that considers them country is their self Used to they would go in a recording studio And cut a record now they do not produce CDs at all so I guess you would say they’re out of business now. We need clear up the myth people quit recording country music the industry is the one that stopped it not the artists they are not letting the People record country music anymore they won’t country rock so that’s all they’re buying
Country changes every decade. Never has it EVER been anything but a mainstream pop genre that takes it's sound from regular pop/rock music. Seriously. Think about every single decade of country, they ALL went out of their way to sound like the bigger genres of the time. It is inherently what country is. A leeching genre that comes across like the church bands who play rock in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience. That's not even hating, it just is what it is. I prefer 80s-early 2000s country myself, or real old stuff like Hank. But it was always trying to leech onto something else to say "We're cool like those other guys." That's exactly why stuff like cowboy Troy happened, or why Kenny did a song with uncle kracker. Or why Tim Mcgraw did a song with Nelly. Country has never stuck to one sound and always leeched onto the more popular sounds to give itself credibility.
Mark chesnutt never forgot a Southeast Texas Roots however the bigger Clay Walker guy he left everything behind he dropped his band when he become famous and his band played small

@ashley1994 yeah I think it is Spelled Byrd'
I just seen TBYRD a few months ago at a concert and even got 2 meet with him and had him sign an OLD COUNTRYWEEKLY MAG that i have lol...Rick Trevino still tours, hes touring around TX, hes been down here by where i live like a thousand times and still..:)
Townes Van Zandt never vanished but was criminally underrated. Wrote a few songs some of the bigger guys got ahold of and kind of fell into obscurity
Sylvia was one of the hottest rising stars in 1982. My sister and I and some friends saw Sylvia in concert in 1983. A very lovely woman with a great voice. Don't know what happened to her. Miss her voice greatly.
Nobody was the first song I ever memorized
Chris Cagle needs to come back. Country music needs him!
He is back. Been touring all year, with new music
Country has been gone for more than 20 years
Not gone, just different.
I agree
Ricky van Shelton and Billy currington are damn good singer's and should get more air play
How about Juice Newton? She had a string of #1's and top ten songs in the 80's like Queen of Hearts, Angel of the morning, The Sweetest Thing and Loves Been A Little Bit Hard On Me
I would love to see one on Keith Harling! “Santas got a Semi” “Papa Bear” “Coming back for you”
other country singers/bands that somehow disappeared : Gloriana, Thompson Square, The Lost Trailers, Jimmy Wayne, Phil Vassar, Love & Theft, Brett Eldredge, Kellie Pickler, Big & Rich, Randy Houser, Sugarland, Keith Anderson, Jerrod Neimann, and Montgomery Gentry (since Troy died of course)
Thompson square....awesum couple
@ashley1994 gee thanks....i feel better now that u corrected me. And btw, thompson square was awesum...my taste, my opinion.
Jimmy Wayne actually does a lot of touring in support of Foster care
Shawn Camp, Kentucky Headhunters, LeAnn Rimes, Big House, Radney Foster, Jo Dee Messina, Jessica Andrews...
“I can’t make I love you mean what it used to, it’s EASIER SAID THAN DONE“: Radney Foster
The Kentucky Headhunters are touring strong and never stopped. Covid put a damper on all live concerts for all artists.
Check out online, you’ll find a date.
The Band Perry have been gone for a few years now and they had some pretty good albums before they left the country genre!
They actually have changed the music genre, look them up.
I miss Gary Allan, Andy Griggs, and Phil Vassar!!!
Hunter Hayes, Jimmy Wayne, Blain Larson, Doug Supernaw, Billy Dean, Little Texas, Diamond Rio, Trick Pony, Collin Raye, Clint Black, Patty Loveless, Chely Wright and Trisha Yearwood
Doug supernaw passed away
I miss billy currington he was one of my favorite but recently hes been all over the place
He has some awesome tunes, that is for sure!!
I love Billy and I wish we could see him once again! Come on back to us! 🥰🥰
I saw them open for Alabama, October of last year, in Austin. That was pretty cool.
My stepbrother and his wife were there!! They met Richie after the show unexpectedly
I just saw Lonestar last month. They still sound good but would've sounded better with Ritchie and John.
Just went to a Billy Currington concert a couple days ago.
Agree
Chris cagal had throat cancer and had multiple surgeries and he said that his last album would be his last still was my favorite in the 2000s
Interesting, and entertaining. There's a lot of that I'll probably need to watch again. But I enjoyed the support.
Another one is Easton Corbin! I loved his music back then! I know he still makes songs but you don’t really hear his stuff on the radio anymore 😩
Chris LeDoux was definitely one of my favorites back in the day. I know he has passed away now, but kinda just disappeared from country music long before that😢
Country music radio didn't play him very much.
He had a liver transplant that sidelined him for a little while. And then he got cancer and passed away.
Chris, Bobbie and Lone Star ⭐️ we miss you all and especially your beautiful country music!! Bring Country Back.
Keith Anderson, I love him and he hasn't done an album since 2008. What happened to him?
@ashley1994 then he disappeared
He still does shows.
Interesting, I had front row tickets to a Lonestar concert two nights ago. The guys were awesome! Leaves me thinking your posts are less than up to date. Oh by the way, Lonestar has a record dropping later this year.
I wish Country Music Radio would play Bobbie Gentry’s version of Fancy. It’s far superior to the Reba McIntire version, IMHO
I bet really no one remembers HOT APPLE PIE! The lead singer was Brady Seals which was kinda the co singer along with Tim Rushlow of the band Little Texas! They only had the one album, but I loved it!
My band got to open for Chris Cagle twice...he is awesome and so are his fans...by far my favorite shows we ever did
Billy Currington - he admits to violent rages and has gone for anger management more than once
I wonder what it is that pisses the man off so much.
What about what happened to The Kinleys, The Lynn sisters, James Bonamy, Kevin Sharp, River Road, Ricochet, Eric Heatherly, Linda Davis, Robert Ellis Oral, Pirates of the Mississippi, Rick Travino, Ty England, Trick Pony, Archer Park, Michael Peterson, Darryl Dodd, Chad Brock, Lisa Brokop, Lisa Angelle, Tammy Cochran, Michelle Wright
Kevin Sharp died
Chris had vocal cord issues as he announced in Manhattan, Kansas, shortly after his last album
Here’s another one who I miss Billy Dean
OMG!!! I miss him too💓
@@christiekraczek6522 He was another great one
Absolutely!!
Ooh, Billy Dean was sooo handsome!
@@hyacinth4368 That he was
Ricky you rocked it. Miss the golden county music.
Here are a few more names:
Bryan White
Travis Tritt
Ricky Skags
Shania Twain
Swyer Brown
Mark Chestnut
David Ball
Wade Hayes
Travis Tritt hasn't vanished whatsoever. He is touring and he is releasing new music all the time. I saw him last year and it was amazing
@@rosegroshek1218
What you point out is true as is the case for others on the this list.
My adding his name is only because he has no "NEW" music that gets any air play
Hopefully Brad Paisley doesn't fade in popularity. He has so many great songs and albums. Mud on the Tires is one of the best Country albums of all time, IMO, not a bad tune on that album.
Brad is a talented musician and that's about it. His wokeness hasn't helped him.
Glad someone's giving Bobbie Gentry the props deserved on Fancy!
You didn't mention James Otto 😥
Love his music.
Hunter Hayes was huge in the early 2010s but fell off sometime after releasing The 21 Project and has since disappeared from relevance.
I believe he’s a pastor now
That remains a total mystery to me. His debut album, when he was still basically a kid, was amazing. I think he wrote all the songs, played almost all the instruments and produced the project, I think. Then he pretty much went nowhere. All that talent and initial success. What happened?
I remember seeing Billy Currington on the Disney Christmas special last December performing big band style Christmas songs. It was different for sure.
I love his song dear penis
My favourite country artist who vanished was Larry Boone. He wrote great songs and his voice had a lovely warmth to it.Some of his songs were covered by George Strait and Don Williams no less.
Travis Tritt was a huge guy. You can put Kenny Chesney since he has pretty much dropped out of the scene. I still believe Gary Allen is the most under rated guy in Nashville.
Kenny Chesney puts out an album every 2 years and launches a new tour! What are you talking about?!
awesome video brother thank you
Thank you bubba!
yeah Chris was indeed a underatted singer. I have him on my playlist. Lonestar was great too. Another band I love back then, was Pirates of the Mississippi, Diamond Rio. Sawyer Brown. Little Texas, Hal Ketchum, Josh Gracin.
Hey Travis this is Jeff Yoder the ol broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, and you just brought up some names of people and groups I haven't thought 💭 of for a while and I'm thinking there's others feeling the same way right about now and I'll say, thanks brother for reminding us of some more stars ✨ who have faded away for whatever reasons and I've been saying for a couple of days now if any of y'all know where some of these folks may still be performing, make sure you pass the word about them so those who want to and can, can go see them while they're still with us
Hal Ketchum passed away. Miss him, and one of the greatest country singers, Joe Diffie.
@@hyacinth4368 hey Hyacinth this is Jeff Yoder the ol broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Era veteran, and I'm guessing you're a country music 🎶 fan and so am i,I'm 72years old and was raised listening 👂 to country music 🎶 and I've seen and heard the changes of styles and am a fan of the newer generations going back to old school country songs how about you
What about Billy Dean or Collin Raye? I'm super glad y'all brought up Ricky Van Shelton he was an amazing vocalist then there's Anita Cochran. What about Jessica Andrews? I also like to see LeAnn Rimes make a purely country album on a major label and see what happens. I also thought Blaine Larsen had amazing potential. I loved both of these major Label records. What about Mo Pitney amazing voice in the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. I also love James Dupree the UA-camr that is on the Randy Travis tour singing Randy's hits because unfortunately Randy no longer can
I think Colin Raye passed away from cancer. It has been several years.
Chris Cagle you’re a great artist you have a great music we truly miss you brother. 🙏👍
I’ve wondered what Billy Currington was doing. I miss him! He never got the recognition he deserved and he had IT ALL! His songs were great, he was hella good looking and I always loved him. I wish he’d put out another album. Can I see him touring anywhere? Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. I’d love to see him.
@DavidWalter4800@ Do I know you?
We just saw him in Buffalo with Tim McGraw for a country radio station concert. Many people thought he put on a better show than Tim
Lee Roy Parnell, Suzy Bogguss, Hal Ketchum
Hal's dead.
Suzy and Patti Loveless
@@purtis99 still around
I've met Chris before and he was the nicest person ever. He wrote Miss Me Baby the day that I saw him and he sang it from a piece of paper because he just had written it.
A few more. The Wilkinsons, Lila McCann, Gretchen Wilson, Jessica Andrews
Lots I'd like to know about, Ty Herndon, John and Audrey Wiggins, Terri Clark, Holly Dunn, Pam Tillis to name a few.
Terri Clark hosts the top 40 count down on Sunday mornings.
Terri clark is touring with Reba.
Holly passed away in 2016, while Pam is still touring (she has toured with Lorrie Morgan, as well as Terri and Suzy Bogguss, to name a few), and Ty still makes music and performs.
NO ONE TAKES THE TRAIN ANYMORE: Holly Dunn
So many. Andy Griggs, Clay Davidson, Lila McCann, Blaine Larson, Trent Wilmon, Trent Tomlinson, Bobby Pinson, Gretchen Wilson, Rhett Atkins, Rick Trevino, Jeff Bates, Brian McComas, Chad Brock, Doug Stone, Doug Supernaw, Brian White. And of course the late Daryle Singletary that deserved a lot better.
Doug Supernaw passed away a couple years ago.
@@cynthiabroadus6348 Well aware. It was a sad day
Doug Supernaw was a wonderful talent.
Easton Corbin is one i wonder about, dude was the cats meow in the mid 2000’s and then He was gone.
He is playing tonight here in Houston area. I was gonna go but it's too damn hot. It's an outside concert.
I worked in country radio from 1994-1998. A lot of artist came through there with high hopes. Some, like Trace Adkins, stayed around, most, like Paul Brandt, were short lived.
Maybe it’s because I follow him, but Paul Brandt is still around he is Canadian so tours a lot up there.
Danielle Peck is an artist who kind of vanished. She still performs and sings, but she never became as huge of a singer as a lot of the other artists signed to Big Machine Records.
Danielle Peck host Y2K Country station on SiriusXM radio.
Band Perry, Julie Reeves, Ronna Reeves, Patty Loveless, mark Mcguinn
@ashley1994 yeah
@ashley1994 yeah Julie used to be married to cledus
The band Perry went hard rock.
Patty Loveless had a beautiful voice!
Another one two just gone were Lila McCann and Carolyn Dawn Johnson(CDJ)
Chris is back on tour…love seeing him back out there
Perfect Stranger, Jason Michael Carrol, Lila McCann and Jessica Andrews are some other Country singers/groups I remember that dissappeared.
Several of our good artists have passed away, but I didn't realize it.
Saw John a few weeks ago in Athens. His Christmas concert. It was wonderful. He sounded so good.
I met Daryle 2xs sweet guy
He sang johnny paa
@ashley1994 i meant to say johnnypaycheck sorry

@ashley1994 don’t worry about shaving my legs I don’t shave my legs at all so I don’t have to since I don’t have any hair on my legs oh well but yes there are quite a few people in the country genre that I would love to know what’s going on and where they’ve been and yes I own every album of Alabama and yes every album of Carrie underwood and a few othersOr should I say quite a few others I’m a huge country back from the 50s 60s 70s 80s and now
@ashley1994 I’m sorry I meant to put Carrie Underwood but I was interrupted by one of my roommates while I was typing my response
@ashley1994 are you new? Distorted guitars , is 100 percent rock
Clay walker has MS. What are you babbling about
