- The Baling Talks were held in Malaya in 1955 in an attempt to resolve the Malayan Emergency situation. The main participants were Chin Peng, David Marshall and Tunku Abdul Rahman. The talks were unsuccessful because the surrender terms were not acceptable to the Malayan Communist Party. After the talks, Chin Peng retired to Thailand and Ah Hai replaced him as acting Secretary-General in Malaya.

It was an historic occasion of the meeting between Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya Tunku Abdul Rahman and the CPM leader Chin Peng at the Baling Talks in Kedah in December 1955 barely two years before Merdeka.
The Tunku had set conditions for Chin Peng.Surrendered and lay down your arms.
The founding MCA leader Sir Tan Cheng Lok was also there and so was Singapore's famed lawyer David Marshall.
Chin Peng as usual was making counter proposals and refused to surrender.The Baling Talks collapsed in a midst of uncertainty.The Communist insurgency which had raged on for seven years continued for another five years.
I read Alias Chin Peng: My Side of History years ago. In his recollection Chin Peng was quite surprised to hear that Tunku left the talks mere days into the negotiation. Little did he knew that the Baling Talks was a mere show by Tunku to showcase to the British government that even the Malayan Communist Party recognised his authority over the nation. Chin Peng got played, and Tunku went to London and secured our independence. Genius move Tunku!
My father was among of the police joint up with the gurkha army form by the British Army in those era as it is now we should keep Malaysia be a peaceful country live in harmony.

apa punca rundingan baling gagal? simple saja. tunku mestilah kena ikut cakap british. rundingan ni sebenarnya bertujuan nak selamatkan aset british di malaya dan mengekalkan proksi mereka di asia tenggara. PKM pulak takkan nak letak senjata begitu saja padahal dah ramai yang berkorban untuk negara sebelum kedatangan jepun lagi. buat rundingan tapi masing-masing taknak kompromi.

Judging form the tone of the newsreel it is no wonder that peace was not achieved then.
The authorities concerned should have ''declassified ' the Baling Talks, since the event happened more than 50 years ago. Such that we the rakyat can have a better understanding of what the ''talk'' is all about. Let us --The Rakyat be the judge and let us hear from the prosecution side of their story as well as the defence side to get a clearer picture. Talk is'' Cheap'' and let us be gentleman enough to listen to both sides like in the court of law......
Anybody knows which camera model was Tunku Abdul Rahman using at that time? Looks like a Rolleiflex but not so sure...

According to the latest new story from historian, Tan Cheng Lock was a MPAJA member..after sometime in 1949 he formed a political party which name is MCA.....
The wanton killings they committed, the terror they inflicted, and destruction they caused were not propaganda. I cannot forgive nor forget. The conflict caused the death of my grandfather. There was no justice for the murder and my father had to lead a tough life of an adopted son to another dead man.

@@rachmannrachie8383 but didn't the British chop off the heads of both Communists and suspected communists? Most of the people they mutilated weren't even involved with Communists and how about the thousands more massacres commited by the British and Malayan armed forces? I know the CPM has done many horrible things but we do have to remember that the British and Malayans did just as many if not more horrible atrocities that would be considered war crimes.
