Am I the only person going around watching videos of Singapore because I'm a Singaporean and need to feel proud of my country when I see the world going down?
Why so many butt hurt Singaporeans pissed off with the way he's pronouncing Changi. I'm a Singaporean Malay and it doesn't bug me one bit. That guy is American, it's only natural that he pronounced Changi that way. Like I'm sure some of you can't even pronounce some everyday English words properly.
Then I hope Americans do not cringe when others say Ee-ly-noise, Ee-yo-wa, Yo-se-might, Ah-karn-sars, How-stan (the city), Loo-is-ville, etc, etc, etc. And don't get me started on how irritated the English get when the world pronounces Lay-ches-ter and so on!
Agree the last few sentence he said. It's really so good to be home when we arrive back at changi. Love this airport. Most beautiful and relaxing place to be at ever!
Service quality wise, it'll stay no.1 as it's got a solid lead in that department and the Singapore government is really committed to keep it that way. But in pax nos, its growth will not be as impressive as the likes of Dubai, Jakarta and Beijing. This is compounded by the fact that Dubai esp has siphoned off sizable Kangaroo route traffic from Changi!
Then why are you Singaporeans so concerned about pronouncing English words correctly? Your PAP has been condemning you Singaporeans not speaking good English and your minister does not even know "Outside Food Not Allowed" is perfectly grammatically sound English and commanded his tag-alongs to correct the sign board at an eatery. By the way, how do you pronounce 'flour', the letter 'H' and the past tense of wash - washed?
Interesting locals actually come and shop and eat in the airport? Last time I checked airport shops and food were heavily inflated at 2.5x the regular price, unless this airport is vastly different.
it is different indeed. prices for products in changi are priced competitively with prices in downtown Singapore, if not cheaper, coupled with tax-free promotions at times even if you are not flying. I guess it being an air conditioned "playground" for kids with weekend events with bouncy castles and carousel makes it a great escape for families away from the hot weather outside.
welcome to the world's best airport, an airport vastly different than "airports" they call in the west (literally EVERY airport in America), which in actual fact are pieces of shit, not an airport.
Land side restaurants and the food court are reasonably priced, if not similar to prices in shopping malls. It's the air side eateries which are a rip-off at 1.5-2x compared to local malls.
The airport is a favorite place to hang out, especially late into the night when one needs a post-midnight fix. The video mentions students studying....but it is not as popular nowadays for that purpose as there are many more choices available. But the nostalgia sticks and many adults return just to check out that corner they once spent weeks hiding at! The tax-free promotions (yes, GST-free, which automatically means everything is at 7% off) can run for months, and the accumulated points are useful for even more benefits which Singaporeans like me suck up to.
indeed it is. but in term of efficiency (read: corporate profit) of airport and airline, singapore is pretty poor. But of course in turn it is good for the customer. But if you see from a business stand point, even temasek holding, in order to maximize profit, they are changing. Not as greedy as america of course but they're changing. You can't expect to have plane sitting around in the tarmac occupying gates for hours. That's bad for business. also, what is an airport? airport should be just like bus terminal i think. As an aviation enthusiast and a private pilot and airplane owner, i hope more people have access to air travel and shouldn't be seen as a luxury. Another reason why america airport sucks is because the rich don't travel through public terminal. If you're worth >$50m, you will go to different FBO terminal and don't need to spend time at airport. They arrive few minutes before flight and off you go on their private jet. This is also a reason why americans business and first class is mediocre at best. the rich don't fly commercial. Where as in singapore/asia in general, due to regulation of general aviation, rich people have to travel through public terminals and hence demand higher standard.
Singapore is so cool omg. Got the best airport in the world dor several years in a row. Singapore Airlines is also the 2nd best airline is the world.. just wow.. Bravo Singapore
Exterior and facilities for passenger is superb while facilities for the staff are all sub standard. Eg: duty free shop cash register system still uses windows 7 which lags and their airport pass office system always down which causes major inconveniences to the staff.
Those people who gloat that Singapore's Changi Airport will lose its status are ironically Chinese Mainlanders, Taiwan Chinese, Hong Kong Chinese and Malaysian Chinese.
Happy Happy Malaysian, Hong Kong and Taiwan Chinese may be envious, but we will not disrespect any masterpiece by any human. But Mainland can be very troublesome, because of their low hygiene standards.
It's the typical Chinese thing. All of them consider Singaporean Chinese as the dumbest and most gullible. Quiet true. We are the most honest, but that is why good service comes naturally with it.
Jewel is already open. A Wow! factor indeed. Come and see for yourself. With Terminal 5 on the way and Singapore stress on efficiency, it seems that Changi will stay as no.1 in many years to come. p.s. I think they will slow down the construction of Terminal 5 due to the Covid 19 situation.
Singapore Changi Airport Really needs a People Mover System UNDERGROUND Train system INTERNAL Connecting the Airport Terminals from T3, T1, Project Jewel, T2 & T4 just like Hong kong Chek lap kok International Airport had a People Mover system in Operation connecting the Newly opened Remote Terminal to the Main Airport Giant Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Hong kong New Chek lap kok Airport had Already built the Underground People mover system when the Airport project was built in 1991 and Completed in 1998.
Ummm...you haven't heard this but we build the skytrains away from the tarmac and the runway. Furthermore we don't need an underground skytrain system as we can always expand our MRT.
Singapore Changi Airport Can stay on as the World's Best Airport if it can introduce New changes like an UNDERGROUND automatic People Mover system train like its Rival Hong Kong Chek lap kok Airport of the system Internal connection between the 2 Terminals to the Remote Terminal.
IT CAN Stay AS Number 1 UNLESS Changes CAN be enforced like For Example Building an Underground Inter terminal Train Sky train" System Connecting Terminal 3, Terminal 1 , Terminal 2 AND Terminal 4 just like Hong Kong Chek lap kok Airport had Already Built it during the Mega Construction of the Whole Airport itself.
Yes I Also Know that, However as the Existing Skytrain system connects Above Ground and OF Course from Terminal 2 to the Future Terminals 4 and the Giant Terminal 5 also CAN be connected Underground as the Current system WILL obstruct Aircraft Movement.
There is going to be a separate Skytrain system running between T3, T4 and T5; plus an additional MRT station for T5, after the existing Airport Station.
Hong Kong Future Terminal will be Connected by an Underground Inter Terminal UNDERGROUND "Sky train" system with the Expanded Terminal 2 with the Most Advanced Baggage Retriever System as in the Master Plan 2020.
+Wong wan chung no the sky train connected between terminal 1,2 and 3 arent obstructing aircraft movement at all.If u look at the airport map and layout terminal 3 is on the left terminal 2 on the right while terminal 1 at the top if u look at the top view. When these 3 airports combined it forms like a shape of an arch terminal 1 being the linked point.within the arch at the middle are all roads for cars and other transport.Outside the arch are where roads for aircraft is.the skytrains are located within the arch and they move alongside the inner layer of the arch or across the road for vehicles hence they do not obstruct aircraft movement when in the first place the aircraft are on the other side of the buildings
I know that but the Future Terminal 4 to Terminal 2 CAN be connected Internally by UNDERGROUND because of the Aircraft Taxiway Bridges , DNATA Catering center and Terminal 2 itself. Hong Kong Chek Lap kok International Airport had built theirs UNDERGROUND Connections between Terminal 2 to the Giant Terminal 1 and Likewise the Soon to be Opened Midfield Terminal and the Future Terminal 3 with the Third Runway operational in 2020 with the Expanded Terminal 2 and the UNDERGROUND "Skytrain" system Connecting Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 to their Masterplan 2030 of Hong Kong will cater to 100 million passengers capacity by then with More Airlines up to 1000 Flights incoming/outgoing ones.
Why? His pronunciation is already understood within his accent/slang. It doesn't sound that nasty or improper just flexible with a certain slang and tone of pronunciation. He's not speaking Malay so you can't expect him to pronounce it as a Malay speaker. Why are you so particular and fussy over a minor pronunciation issue? Please, don't make yourselves so difficult, particular and angry. I see this more as egoistical Singaporean pride rather than clear pronunciation for easy understanding.

But it's 2023 now (as of this writing) and we're back in business, and kicking ass and not bothering to take names because who wants to remember the names of losers? You obviously have not been there. Terminal B is a classic 1960s architectural masterpiece....albeit underrated in today's demand for "space and light". A forgotten gem that needs rediscovering.
changi will not stay no.1... for long ...as..the others airports... like Beijing, Sukarno hatta.. bangkok... etc... are much bigger.. nicer.. and sophisticated... than changi...
