- Instagram’s short-form video feature Reels is far behind its biggest rival, TikTok. Internal research reviewed by The Wall Street Journal shows Reels is struggling to get people to watch and create content for the platform.

TikTok is now my main entertainment channel. Sometime I learn quite new things, too, such as 30 second tips (kitchen, tools...), or even psychology tricks.
I never insta or TikTok because it all makes me make that crying face

Bots are all over social media including on tik tok.
@@12FU I see it worse on TikTok, when I made a TikTok account instantly I had 14 followers (all being bots) and I posted 5 videos and now have 186 followers and 74 of them are bots which sucks. I don't have that issue on Instagram but I could be wrong and could just be lucky atm

It's probably because the stupid "Reels" on Instagram are mainly re-posted TikTok videos. In other words, Instagram became a major advertisement for TikTok.
Instagram needs to start being instagram and stop being something else. Tiktok is for tiktok.

Basically the algorithm that suggest videos to other strangers is much better in Tiktok. This is what Instagram is trying to improve now.
I get what i want to watch on tiktok however that’s not the case for instagram. They’re always suggesting “I’m 14 and this is deep” reel posts that are reposted from tiktok and i definitely have no interest in these posts.

Instagram Reels just feel forced. It didn’t start organically like TikTok.
I sometimes end up in Instagram Reels and the content that their algorithm is pushing looks desperate. It knows I like cars and tech, but the content creators they’re pushing is from the Middle East and Indonesia of all places. I’m based in the US.
If Instagram were really good at its algorithm, it would’ve showed me content from the Philippines. I’m from there. I moved 3 years ago and have been using the same Instagram account since 2nd year high school. TikTok also has the advantage of being the preferred platform for users who make great content which feels organic. From my experience, TikTok knows to push funny Gen Z New York City content to me. It knows I’m in New York. It also shows me content uploaded by my neighbors here in Queens that interest me. Instagram Reels? Nothing. Random Arabic content flooding my feed in Reels. So cringe. Reels isn’t giving at all. Its user base isn’t just there yet. It’s more of a dump site for Facebook hordes who have just discovered this format of social media.
Instagram started organically as pictures but TikTok videos are more advanced than Reels & UA-cam. That’s what sets them apart and TikTok is more popular & successful.
Same im from Indonesia and ive had videos from Indians or arab countries….
just use UA-cam shorts, it's entertaining enough, and they're not pigeonhole anyone into a random middle east content

The contest is actually mainly from India where Tiktok is banned, thus they have no alternative for short form video content. It's interesting that Instagram made sure to comment that their decrease in numbers didn't factor in global numbers...India! What Instagram fails to realize is that the majority of creators and businesses that market on instagram are not targeting India, so these "views/engagement" is virtually useless outside of seeing more views/likes!
Until they clean up their comments and dm bots problem, and better pay, I could never love IG again.
Meta is obsessed with tiktok and trying its best to copy tiktok on all of its platforms and its ruining everything for the users. I switched to instagram from FB in 2018 due to its stupid algorithms and now they doing the same to instagram.
I love how recently FB flagged me inappropriate for a joke comment I made on a post. But then I open my IG and my feed suggestion is borderline porn.
Why anyone would use TikTok is beyond me. It's bad enough that Trudeau's being forced to allow Huawei here. Thanks to Harper. That punk.

TikTok's AI-driven algorithm's one and only goal is to get users addicted as quickly as possible. Technically I think Meta or Snapchat could replicate that but considering potential consequences of getting sued or shut down, i doubt they will take that risk.
Let's see other major market countries will follow India to ban the app.

Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, UA-cam, and lots of others do the same thing (addiction algorithms) but for different types of content. Their goal is also to get people to spend as much time as possible on their platforms because more time equals more advertisement revenue, and they have faced increased scrutiny for it as well. Facebook's internal research showed that their recommendation AI on Instagram pushed weightloss and anorexia related content once the algorithm determined the user was a teenage girl, and the algorithm did that because the AI determined it was the best way to keep those girls on Instagram for as long as possible. Instagram's algorithm is for pictures. UA-cam's is for video. Zuckerberg and Sundar have both been grilled by Congress about these algorithms and their practices for collecting user info. If Instagram or UA-cam could get the algorithm for short videos just right like how TikTok has, they would do the same thing.

Heh if they can do it, they already have done it 1000 times. The algorithm of TikTok is unique and state-of-the-art, which can’t be copied easily. You’ve seen what’s happening now - even as good as google and meta, they can’t keep pace with it.

From my business account they are trying to force us to use Reals rather than just the photos. The photos don't even get since anymore. And if you are a business lucky if 10% of your followers see anything you post. They want you to paying for ads all the time.
