      @@VZSenator that's pretty impressive, you got all that out of a comment pointing out this isn't new. The title of the video suggests this is BREAKING NEWS but really is a month old.
      So glad my comment got you to come out of your shell and finally comment on a video, us commenters welcome you.

    I saw posts in the foundry reddit from the foundry team, and the wording they used was that they were not partnered at all, but that wotc had finally agreed to licence 5e to the foundry team so the foundry team themselves can build it for the vvtt. Wotc are not doing anything but licence it to them.

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  4 місяці тому +1

      Most likely this is an official licensing deal, yes. Not sure how involved WotC is but Foundry did call this a partnership in their blogpost on the topic: foundryvtt.com/article/dungeons-dragons-arrives/

    I was literally *just* setting up my foundry instance yesterday to run my first campaign in, specifically to run the phandelver and below campaign.
    According to their project pages, DAE has been updated and Midi-QoL has a beta. Unfortunately, I don't have enough setup to test if anything is broken.

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому

      Glad to hear that DAE now supports DnD v3.0 and that Midi QOL is on it's way!

  • @martzgm
    @martzgm 8 місяців тому +3

    I for one was quite excited about what I saw in terms of improvements brought by D&D 5e 3.0, especially on the character sheet front. As usual, I did my due diligence and made sure that modules I am heavily relying on (midi QoL, DFreds Convenient Effects, Monk's Tile Trigger, etc.) would still work before upgrading - which some did advertise as not being supported at the moment I wanted to make the move. That said, I first made a backup using The Forge's supplied save points, and created a brand new "dummy" world to try it out - careful NOT to open my current campaign. I am planning to invite my players to try out that temporary world and see what works still, and what breaks, if anything.
    PS: I did install the beta version of midi QoL, and as far as I can tell, it seems to work thus far. Hear hear! 🙂

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому

      That is exactly the right way to do it! Good practice!
      Glad to hear the Midi QOL beta is coming along well!

      Are you having issues importing characters from DnD Beyond to the new system? I get the error of "window.dnd5eCustomSkulls is not a function," when I have been trying to import characters

  • @yuanLaughing

    Thanks for sharing this big news! I am glad to see Foundry has taken a step further. But, is it good for the players who play D&D on Fvtt? Or, is it just a new gold mine for WotC to dig? We will see.

    • @Gildashard
      @Gildashard 8 місяців тому +1

      The purchase is optional, you can still play with the core (mostly empty) system. WOTC supporting Foundry might give other game publishers more confidence in Foundry to bring content however.

    • @flipponator
      @flipponator 8 місяців тому

      IMHO it's both.
      Foundry will get new amazing content, and WOTC will earn money.

    • @yuanLaughing
      @yuanLaughing 8 місяців тому +1

      @@Gildashard Yep, you are correct in that perspective.

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому +2

      It definitely is a new revenue stream for WotC. However, having better support of mechanics directly in the game system is a win for me. Also, the game system will remain free (as far as I can tell) and only the premium stuff you have to pay for. Also now if you want to play a DnD adventure on Foundry, there is an official way to do so (as long as there is a premium Foundry module of the adventure).

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому

      I hope so too! In the future if you update the game system, you could copy your main world first and check in the copy that your stuff works. I have a video on this: ua-cam.com/video/VtPMErb82jM/v-deo.html

      also utilize the backup feature within foundry and just revert your world if it doesn't work but I also have my "live" instance we use to play on (just nodeJS server and I use web browser to connect)but when I want to test something I load up the client itself and test that way. There were a number of modules that took a week or more to update adn some were still not working yet.

  • @blackshard641
    @blackshard641 8 місяців тому

    WotC's updates better not bork the Ruins of Symbaroum 5E modules. Frankly I wish they'd just partner with Free League and add RoS content to DND Beyond.

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому

      I think it's up to the Ruins of Symabaroum team ensure that their Foundry modules work with DnD v3.0 and onwards. Adding stuff to DnD Beyond is an entirely different conversation though but I could see it happening as WotC seems to be opening it up to other publishers (e.g. Darrington Press).

      @CelestianGC 8 місяців тому

      @@DiceAndEasy To be transparent, if they wanted to do it I'm the person that would. I've already written the ruleset (ARS) and I have the content for the bulk of the Core rules converted (only used in my personal games).
      They just need to get approval from WoTC. Andrew didnt seem to interested in pursuing when I approached but we'll see in a year and I'll ask again.

    • @Cergorach
      @Cergorach 8 місяців тому

      Unknown, but as what was said about the 5e PHB/DMG/MM I seriously doubt we'll see previous editions even if that was part of the license deal.
      Keep in mind that making a FVTT version takes quite a bit of work of multiple people, they need to be paid, WotC/Hasbro needs to be paid. So you would need to sell quite a few modules before you even get back what you spend. Unless you make something incredible from a previous edition, I seriously doubt it.
      The FVTT also has limited resources, so they are limited in the amount of product they can convert into something you want to pay $30 for. Their best business choice would be do convert what sells well, the most recent version is what sells the most...

    let's see how Wotc will try to screw them over this time, seems their own vtt didn't take off, just a reminder they tried to screw over other vtts

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому

      I think it's too early to say if WotC's own VTT took off or not since it's been in testing only for a short time now, and they are still working on their 3D VTT that hasn't come out yet. I was very surprised by this move from WotC since I thought they would go for a walled garden approach with their own VTTs but I guess they want a wider market.

      @@TTRPG_Quebec There already has been a module that handles D&D Beyond integration, that's a paid patreon service from a third party.
      But the $30 module on FVTT is a FAR better implementation then the D&D Beyond import. You have both options, depends on what you want and how much you value your time.

    Please... Pathfinder is a better system, and Paizo is not a dick company.

    • @DiceAndEasy
      @DiceAndEasy  8 місяців тому +1

      Not saying it isn't but there are still going to be people who play DnD

    • @Cergorach
      @Cergorach 8 місяців тому

      Depends on what you mean by 'better', if 'better' meant more people play it, then D&D5e is the 'better' game...
      FVTT already has a partnership with Paizo for PF2e and the modules they made for FVTT are awesome! Abomination Vaults, Kingmaker, Starterbox, Harrow Deck, even the token collection are all awesome! I would even say that the PF2e FVTT modules are better then the new D&D module, as the PF2e modules have sound.
      But it isn't D&D and most people just fall back to D&D (eventually). And it isn't that strange, it's simple, it's familiar, it's widely available and widely supported.
      Even Paizo itself acknowledges that by making a conversion book to (D&D) 5e for their Kingmaker adventure path and there's a complete version of Abomination Vaults coming out for (D&D) 5e in May.
      I also think that the PF2 system in FVTT is way nicer then what's in 5e v3, but we're still playing D&D 5e...
