In heads tuning there is the real secret of the Echorec space sound. Sorry for the italian language of this video. At min 1.54 I explain that the signal going on the record head must be adjusted by the first potentiometer (the delayed ) sound at that minute is distorted in order to no send a distorted signal on the tape. The magic eye on the center (Em81) needs to see when we are saturating the record head. The magic eye should be never completely closed.
Tune the guitar up. Then Check the HF AC record bias. For that magnetic recorder wire you need Frequency 100Khz. and the bias voltage needs to be 50 VAC. at the head. The grittiness will disappear now. Set heads to touch drum at 5 grams. Lot of work if the heads and drum are worn. Good Luck.
Ciao, vorrei correggere un informazione errata ma piuttosto diffusa. Il Binson ( il nome deriva da Bini & Bosoni ) Echorec è un brevetto tedesco degli anni '50 ".
Eheh..I understand..next time I take a video with a guitar I'll find another guitar and..a guitarist :) The guitar used is a really old Tamaki that goes out of tune after a while you are playing it..
Bel suono!
Suena precioso.
Bravo stupendo, echorec usato da syd Barrett per registrare Piper at Gates of dawn💖

Semplicemente inimitabile :)

How about tuning that guitar....?
You could be a little short of record bias? The magnetic wire needs a good level of bias for clean replay.
Do you repair echorecs? Is there anywhere to get these fixed?
