Dark Egg needs help Hatching

- A little chick can't get out of her egg. If I don't help her, she won't make it.
I know, this is something I should not do because a lot can go wrong...
This dark egg is from a French species of chicken called 'Marans'. It is famous because the shell is so thick that salmonella bacteria can't get in... it also means that little Marans chicks have a hard time getting out during hatching.
So I kept a close look and intervened when the process was taking too long.

The chick stopped moving for a few seconds and I swear I stopped breathing.

I know!! I thought it had stopped breathing!! Because she was making whole bunch of bird noises then she stopped super quick and I was scared!! But I am happy she didn't die!💖

I'm sure nice people are raised and had good influences in a good environment with the right people. If you're planning on brooding chicks WATCH THESE CHICK RESCUE vids. I just got done with my first brood & guess what... yep, had one stuck after initial pipping. 15 hours later that little guy was pretty tapped, time to lend a little help. Because of these vids that little fellow is alive, healthy & keeping up with it's brothers & sisters. Knowledge is power.

Honestly, I’d say we need more people like this, but I understand how _terrifying_ it is. You never know if they’re going to survive. And some people- most people- are like me. Terrified of loss, especially loss of something you’ve come to care about. It’s so sacry, the not knowing- that I couldn’t ask anyone to do something I myself could never, _ever_ do.
View it this way: If you don't do it, no you will never give any chick a chance for life. If you DO do it, they at least have *A* chance.
Yes, I had two eggs crack together from a clutch of 8 a couple days ago because mama hen became a bit rambunctious after sitting for 19 days. I’m so worried about them. Like, losing sleep at night worrying. Seems ridiculous to others, but they’ve come so far and I want to see them survive. It’s this mama’s first clutch of fertile eggs after waiting 3-4 years to become a mama!

saving this baby will have a negative long term effect as it's lineage will also likely have a hard time getting out. Better to let mother nature takes its course.
So much I learned from these videos. I never had idea about messing with blood vessels could make chick bleed to death if you rush. Or you need exact temperature to hatch the egg. Or the water test. Such a care to those tiny birds. I love this channel so much!
When I was in kindergarten I had in my hand a duckling hatching from his egg and it was one of the most magical moments of my life.

I kept the chicken because I got too attached to say goodbye, her name is lemon. This guy has motivated me to help animals in need and go vegan!! For the first time i had some eggs in an incubator yesterday most of them hatched except 2, 1 hatched in the morning and the other one still only had a chip in the shell. I had to get to work so couldnt do anything at that moment. I came home in the afternoon and she didnt make any progress. The membrane had dried up almost completely. Thanks to your videos on saving chicks she is alive and is now roaming in the brooder with the other 12 brothers and sisters. Thank you for doing what you do

I remember when me and my mom hatched 6 eggs. One hatched the night my grandpa died. And those little chicks kept me alive gave me a reason to be happy and keep going. Life is a truly a blessing
