What I understood from the Spider scene was that if you raise a child telling them they are a monster no matter what they do, there is gonna be a point where they stop trying to prove you wrong and they start believing it and acting accordingly.

The message about Spider, and choosing to be the man you want to be came at such an important time in Australia. We have a violence against women problem in this country and many men are feeling atacked. They say aren't the problem, they are good men, but if we keep saying they are monsters in society, (which some of them are, there is a legitimate safety concern for all women in this country atm) then these men will become monsters. To a degree that is what's happening to some people. AND YET, the message Spider gets says that EVEN IF SOCIETY SAYS YOU ARE A MONSTER! you get to CHOOSE what MAN you want to be. I think more men need to understand that. Even though Australian women are condemning men and are scared of men, that doesn't limit you, or make you a monster IF you CHOOSE to be a different man. More boys need to hear this in Australia because that is what is going to fix the problem with men's attitude towards women in this country.

I was so looking forward to your reactions for this episode, especially your commentary on the scenes between Missy and Spencer!
One of the things I think the show does really well is that it depicts the extremes of both political spectrums, but at the same time, all the kids still hang out, have fun and sometimes even heal each other as individuals within this broader political scheme/overarching clash of ideas. The Spencer scenes in this episode totally gave me a whole new lens of understanding to the potential genesis of toxic masculinity, and I so agree with what was said about how the more militant we try to be with educating people on what we believe to be the right side of things, the more we might push them away to the opposite end of those extremes. It's all about that balance for realll

I love the respect this show has for Quinnie. Like i didn't *enjoy* seeing her the way she was in the next couple of episodes, but it was really really important to show and I love where it goes - I love where she ends up. I get both perspectives, but in the end I think Quinnie was kinda right.

I also absolutely agree on the importance of this overdue discussion the show delivers: has the 'woke' and political correctness limits, where it might push the opposite of what's intended? They do it rather bluntly with the whole sport teacher guy, but also with Spencer's story. And with some of the things to come. Where is the attempt to hold others accountable for their actions holding you from seeing your own part in it? Taking over responsibility apart from any agender really, but because its the right - or wrong - thing to do. Like Spencer's Mom probably meant good but screwed up a boy completely.

Im straight as an arrow. And while I identify as Demisexual, it could just be my trauma that manifests itself as a sort of asexuality - 19:00 This convo is so interesting to me - as it's been said that the world is male -dominated in a sense - to get another perspective like this. I was so uncomfortable and just 'noping' at Spencer's mom. People like that exist and that thought it dangerous if they get in a position of power.
