Igor Cavalera was a beast on drums. He set a high standard for new drummers coming up at the time. Doesn't get the the attention he should for his skills. One of my favorite drummers.
I was a freshman in high school when this album came out, and melted my face off. It continues to this day - Arise is absolutely badass start to finish.
Also, as a follow up on your end comments - for me, Sepultura has always "'groovy" for lack of a better term. Those Brazilian roots break through and it's just outrageous. Glad you enjoyed, sir
This is my favorite Sepultura track. Wanted to share the live performance because it showcases the band’s brutality & incredible musicianship. Max and co were honestly at their peak at this time, just unfortunate how it all ended…
I was looking up info about the break up but I’m absolutely loving their early sound. Soulfly has always been one of my favorite bands and I still can’t believe that max was rockn in sepultura way before they were formed.
Wassup bro? Love your channel. One thing though if i may. Sepultura came out in the 80s. Morbid Visions, Schizophrenia, Beneath The Remains. '86 '87 and '89. They just didn't have the mainstream recognition. I called them the Metallica of Brasil. Unseen by most but known by all.
Sepultura marked the moment I became a metalhead. First time playing Beneath the Remains, that album absolutely put me through the floor! I feel bad when people can’t enjoy Thrash Metal at the very least. Going into Death Metal (and it’s numerous sub genres) is just a natural progression if you’re curious, but I never imagined it would be the main type of music I buy and play. Ever!
Nice one Josh🤘 I have this DVD lying around somewhere...It's a good one! Igor is such a ridiculously talented beast🤘 This is arguably Sepultura's best song...
Sepultura without Max is not Sepultura, and i like Soulfly, new album Totem is a killer album, old school Sepultura vibe (Arise, Beneath The Remains, Chaos Ad)
I had 8 years at 91, I am from Brasil and I was discovering rock it was a complete shock listening to it that young, it was love at first glance hahaahhaha
Nailbomb, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Killer Be Killed are his other bands. Nailbomb is industrial and the others are pretty dope 🤘Max is like Al Jourgensen, twenty different projects going on. He also sung on the body count song All Love Is Lost 🤘 the band wanted to fire their manager, his wife who's son had died in a car accident. They started in 85, that's why I wanted to replace Megadeth with Sepulutra in the Big 4, remember that battle 😜🤣
Sepultura with Max Cavalera was the best metal band. You should check Cavalera Conspiracy, Max projects with his brother Iggor Cavalera, and Totem, last album from Soulfly, old school Sepultura 🤘🤘
Also come out vulgar display of power in 92. Arise is a mix of death/thrash power metal with some hardcore influence. Then chaos a.d it was more industrial. I think in the middle of 90s thrash/death metal bands joined alternative sounds from bands like Korn, that's why come out bands like Soulfly and similar and new metal in general
Scott Ian from Anthrax was once quoted saying when he first heard Sepultura and comparing Anthrax and every other metal band to them: "They sounded like the fucking apocalypse." They all learned real quick in terms of being fast, brutal and heavy in the thrash world that they all got dethroned.
That being said and i was at the time a huge judas priest fan and metallica (first three albums) but when sepultura fully hit the scene we were like holy shit theres a monster killer on the loose and those bands such as slayer megadeth anthrax and especially metallica dared not let sepeltura tour with them. They had a hard intro as everyone fled when being approached about possible tourism. They didnt hate sepultura they feared them. You cant have an opening band perform on an album thats better than anything thats out at that time especially the arise album which still stands as the greatest thrash album of all time. I wanna say thank you to the industrial metal band ministry for taking on sepultura and recognizing the potential power house from brazil and giving the world an unforgetable tour with two incredible shows in one night. PSALM 69/ARISE.
I was in high school when Beneath the Remains came out. Metal peaked early 90’s. All bands were at the top of their game. You could say the same about hip hop and rnb. Something about that era. Musicians stood on top of giants and became giants themselves. Then it all died at about 1994. Some blame Grunge or boy bands. I don’t know. But 90s Metal….. if you weren’t there , you just don’t know. Fortunately we can listen to thr music. But the shows, the concerts, the atmosphere was so cool. I’m feelin like an old man now lol. Gather round ye children and let me tell you a story lol
Sepultura circa 1991 was a special combo - Max & Iggor Cavalera, Andreas Kisser and Paulo Xisto Jr. ... It's a pity it ended by 1996. Looking and listening to this video, I can see now how little Max plays guitar live - it's Andreas who handles most of the guitars. In Soulfly, it's been coming to light that Max has not been playing guitar a lot live, and he admitted as much in interviews. Marc Rizzo, who played guitar for Soulfly since 2004, recently quit and that raised a lot of stink... it was a big loss. And it's been alleged that Max did not give Rizzo any credit for the string of Soulfly (or Cavalera Conspiracy) records that he had played on. Rizzo hinted that he was having issues within the band and Max & Gloria's way of running things... Obviously, Max Cavalera is a true metalhead, and a very prolific songwriter... but I think his issues w/ Sepultura went deeper than his wife Gloria having her contract managing Sepultura expire... Andreas also admitted that Max was getting all the press and that hurt Sepultura when he left w/ his wife Gloria to form Soulfly. But after Derrick Green joined Sepultura as the new vocalist, Andreas seemed more content creatively, despite the fact that their popularity crashed in the 2000's and Sepultura were dogged by "not being Sepultura without the Cavalera brothers..." Sepultura spent decades building their career back up, and claimed that despite talk of reuniting w/ Max and Iggor, nobody in Sepultura was aware of any offers to reunite... They blamed Max and Gloria's camp for those rumors. Lately, Sepultura has been gaining popularity w/ newer metal fans, while Soulfly has been steadily going downhill... Max & Iggor Cavalera often tour together playing Sepultura sets.
how little he plays guitar ? Really on this live this is the bad video to say that. Max right hand was made of steel then. Andreas got the licks and leads. Max does also his job of frontman and vocalist. Something that Andreas have not to do.
@@Nissardpertugiu There's no point arguing w/ someone who has already made up their mind. Even if the evidence is clear, u would still not accept the facts 😈
Sepultura were at their peak in 1991, but they began in 1984, not in 90's. They did Bestial Devastation / Morbid Visions / Schizophrenia in 1985/86/87. Its more Death / Black metal, first generation
I was playing college football in 91, and this album would be my pregame, in the locker room. I’d get so fucking jacked. This shit would get me ready for war!
You should watch Metallica Seatle show from '89. That is a base as well. Same energy like Sepultura here. Also I recommend some Slayer from the early 90's. For some heavier stuff check out Morbid Angel's Immortal Rites live from '89. Have fun :D
Up until and including Beneath the remains, sepultura was considered allmost black metal by some. Think they were pen palls with several of the original legends of norwegian black metal. I believe one was Aarseth, the guy Burzum murdered, but I don't remember. They used to get connections by finding pen pals from various obscure fanzines back then, heheh.
Max left because the other guys in the band didn't like the fact that Max's wife was their manager. And for a long time too! So they protested. So he decided to leave. Igor joined him later in Cavalera Conspiracy
Max's wife drove a wedge(he should get the most money) between the band members and that ended one of the greatest thrash bands of all time. Have you looked into Nail bomb?
Mid to late 80's to early 90's is the best thrash metal time period. It was incredible as a teen growing up and going to these shows. Honestly, everything else "metal" (contemporary) is f*cking TRASH!
Igor Cavalera was a beast on drums. He set a high standard for new drummers coming up at the time. Doesn't get the the attention he should for his skills. One of my favorite drummers.
One of the best live shows ever!
Without a doubt. They were at their peak for me in this era.

Same here man🤘 Fall of 1991, freshman year, discovered Arise & Rust In Peace. And it was full speed ahead from there, lol.
absolutely!
Sepultura from Brazil, warriors forever in our hearts!
Andreas is wearing a Sadus T shirt, Antioch, Ca. baby!!
Damn what a band the OG Sepultua was... Thanks T for this great reaction

This is also my favorite song and performance. Just completely relentless and way ahead of its time.

At 3:52 …I’ve prayed to play in a band that would be eager to play that for 4 hours straight
The best band forever
Love it. You are probably limiting your fan base by reacting to this music, but I thank you for it.
Sounds pretty fuckin good for live audio.
I suggest Dead Embryonic Cells, from the same album of Desperate Cry
