Many years ago, I supported my young family and put myself through college with a Chinese Catering Business. Many times my customers filled with enthusiasm, called me in after the meal and asked "What is your secret". The answer was and is "I am into the spirituality of food. It is a form of the truth. There is life in it. It ministers to us in such a deep way, it lifts our spirit, connects us, and makes us happy to be alive. It is like art. It says something that can't be said, and we all hear it and feel it, and share the experience. The essence of good cooking is love -- love for each other, love for what we do, and love for the food we are eating. It brings us back into the "now" of living. We are not just living our lives we are experiencing it. Good food deserves the dignity of being cooked right. Great cooking is a form of justice. The food deserves it, the family deserves it. It is also an adventure. Good food is what family is all about. Coming together for dinner is when we are a family. Jorouka, you are the first person I have ever heard in my life who completely gets it. You connected with me in a very deep way. Thank you for sharing. It means so much to me. I feel African cooking is amazing, important, underrated. Thank you again so much for sharing.
This is about the most beautiful comment I have gotten on this Channel. Thank you Colin.. I like how you wrapped it up with one caption:The Spirituality of Food.. Never heard that term before and it ministered to me deeply, because it captions everything I stand for. Thank you for stopping by my Channel, thank you for the encouraging words 🌹🌹🌹
@@JoroukatheRecipeQueen I am a Christian. The Old Testament had a lot of (let's call it advice) on what to eat and not to eat. Then as a curious teenager I experimented with fasting, and during my first fast I realized my spirit was soaring -- absolutely soaring. That is when I realized food and spirit are connected -- by the absence of food. And all those rules had to do with spirit. "Clean" and "Unclean" has to do with spirit. A few years ago I read that science has figured out if someone tries to eat while extremely angry, normally nourishing food becomes a poison to that person. I love the green of bell peppers, the orange or carrots, the red of tomatoes, etc. Those colors minister to me. I love making food visually exciting. You do that too. I was asked by four siblings to cater their parents 50 year anniversary. I did not make any money but I went all out because it was such a special occasion. One of the siblings brought a 7 year old little girl, who was autistic and had never said a word. We had a lot of fun making faces at each other. They sat her at the table. I served some fried rice and apricot sweet and sour chicken and she blurted out "WOW, I LIKE THAT." When she realized she had spoken, her eyes got so wide -- it was cute. Somehow my cooking had ministered to an autistic child, and brought her out of it. That meant so much to me and to that whole family. But it is an example of what I am talking about. Sorry this ended up being so long. God Bless.
Nooo. It's an interesting discuss. I feel such Joy and Satisfaction too when I make a great meal.. The look of Satisfaction and Joy on people's faces, the feeling I get to know I am meeting a need, whether it's of hunger or of someone who is trying something new and liking it makes it worth it... I will give up the money part too again and again to get that experience... It's my spiritual high I guess. Thank you for sharing your beautiful experiences over the years with me🌹🌹
