On Opus specifically he recorded EVERYTHING except for the drums, and he produced it as well. If you know his history, you can really tell that he had played a lot of base during the time leading up to Opus, because the baselines are really prominent 😉 He had help with mixing and the cover art (which he did the concept art for). As far as the records goes, especially Opus, it really is Tobias vision and execution through and through.
Tobias made a 4 song demo where he plays all the instruments. And his friend producing them. He put them up on myspace and everybody love them. And they gave him a record contract.
this is my favorite song off the album, which is full of amazing songs, I love the heaviness raw mixed with the blue oyster cult like vocals, sounds like a heavy 70s rock song. thanks for the great reaction as always!
It's funny because Tobias actually didn't want to be the singer. He just wanted to write the songs and play. He tried to get multiple people to be the Papa figure before just doing it himself when no one else wanted to.
Part of why Tobias didn't want to be the frontman was he doesn't think he looks the part. Saw a couple interviews where he mentions that. When he was envisioning the band, he didn't fit for his view of the singer. But nobody else would take it, so he dived in, and the mask was in part to make him the look he thinks a Papa should have. Not his kinda cherubic baby face.
I think the most important "interlude" would be the intro for Infesstisuman, the first and second track just belong together. The other ones could be on separate short videos tho, I don't think they would affect too much the experience.
Tobias did an interview with Rolling Stone yesterday where he talked a lot about the musicality and creation of Ghost and their albums that I’d recommend checking out! Always look forward to these videos and can’t wait to see what’s next
You've got to listen to Zenith. It's only on UA-cam bc Spotify doesn't support it in the US and some other countries. BUT. it's absolutely amazing, it's got it all. Dark, amazing riffs, that evil laugh I love. It amazing. It's a bonus track from the band.
One of my favorite Ghost songs. Written by Omega, Martin Persner, who is now fronting Magna Carta Cartel. You definitely need to check them out! Zenith is only on the deluxe edition of Meliora. Very tough to get a physical copy.
Tobias said in an interview that this song is his favorite Ghost song. A note on Satanism, it actually has nothing to do with any killing or murder or sacrifices and crap like that. Anyone who does that is just a criminal or deranged and is not part of Satanism. Also, Satanists typically use the idea of Satan as a philosophy. Satan is a symbol. A lot of Satanists are actually atheistic/agnostic. In the 80's and 90's, there was a thing called the Satanic Panic where the media and talk shows were bearing down on accusing innocent people of doing satanic things when that wasn't happening at all. Satanists are typically very peaceful individuals. Christian influences have perpetuated the notion that everything bad that happens is "satanic". I could talk a lot more on this topic but I'll stop here for now.
Now you really walking on holy ground. The first Ghost song ever written. It was first in swedish and called "Satans Natt" (The Night of Satan) and the riff is the whole reason you and me are sitting here right now. Tobias sat in a room together with Martin Persner playing guitar together for fun and all of a sudden Tobias comes up with the riff. This was 2006. He leaves the room and goes off and wrote the song. 4 years later Opus was released and the rest is history.
Doors and Deep Purple? This was supposedly the first song Tobias wrote for what would be Ghost, - it illuminated a path forward musically, and he's gone on to expand that sound and vision into where they are today.
I just discovered Ghost this year and Opus Eponymous is my favorite album by them and even one of my favorite albums of all time. Man, lots of cool riffs and catchy vocal melodies. Sounds like a lost '70s cult, prog rock, doom album. Tobias definitely nailed that sound. My favorite song from this album is Con Clavi Con Dio, but Stand By Him is definitely a stand out.
Fun! Yes, the Satanic stuff is their schtick. Really. And honestly if it wasn’t, who cares? The music is still catchy af. If you’re interested in a good long interview with Tobias, there’s a new one up from Rolling Stones’ twitch channel I think from yesterday. I found it on UA-cam just by searching key words. He’s a fascinating dude.
Tobias is a Floyd fan. I have heard him mention a lot of artists he likes, but he hasn't mentioned the Doors, that I've heard. Incidentally, the bonus track on the Japanese CD of this album is a really cool cover of Here Comes the Sun. Are you going to react to the If You Have Ghosts EP? Produced by Dave Grohl, btw.
@@rockdariff He has actually SPECIFICALLY mentioned The Doors and how they’re were one of his favourite bands growing up - one of the ones that his mom rather than his big brother showed him. So when you say you hear The Doors, you’re absolutely right. He also really likes Uriah Heep, and if you listen for it (especially in Per Aspera and Spirit) you’ll hear that too. He loves and takes inspiration from SO MUCH that chances are if you think you hear it, he’s done it on purpose. It’s pure joy watching you get into Ghost and their discography - keep at it! ❤
Can’t wait for You to get deeper into their stuff. You seemed to have gone through the most popular songs off of infestissunam but please dive a bit deeper. That album is better than what a lot of ghost fans I seem to meet nowadays would suggest. Per aspera is one of my favorite songs from them. And their live performance of it was epic. They only recently dropped it from their set for this Impera tour. Also excited to see you get into some of the deeper tracks from prequelle and Impera. Witch image Life eternal Both instrumentals were epic from prequelle Then you got from Impera Griftwood Darkness at the heart of my love Watcher in the sky Respite at the spitalfields (my favorite Ghost song in a long time)
Were you thinking of doo-wop at 4:40? I think it’s great that you thought of that, because one of my very favorite bands is a Satanic doo-wop band called Twin Temple, and they just recently did a lot of touring with Ghost.
I don't think the interludes and intermissions are too important to react to and upload, especially if it's more work and more of a headache. Not worth it imo. I'm more interested in your reactions to the actual main songs. Hail Ghost! 🤘🖤
Unfortunately, when he released the demo on MySpace, he lost his older brother on the same day. He was 14 yrs older than Tobias. Tobias has said it seemed like a weird trade-off, his brother for success, basically...paraphrasing here
I believe Stand By Him was the 1st song Tobias wrote for Ghost, and he sat on it for a couple years till he wrote more Ghost songs for this album...
Your correct
Yes. Originally the name was ''Satans natt''. Meaning ''Satans night''.
Yes!
It was written as a joke song 👻
@@nickj4785yes. It was originally recorded or written in Swedish

Actually he didn't play the bass. That was Gustaf Lindström.

Not all. Gustav Lindström played bass.

On which album?
@@rockdariff I think it’s from _Meliora,_ their third LP.
Do you think that the “Zenith” riff sounds awfully similar to Phil Collins’ “Another Day in Paradise”?
Second that…masterclass

Pretty sure this was the first song Tobias wrote for ghost, everything else was built from this
Tobias doesn't like watching himself either. Said he couldn't be unmasked singer for Ghost.
Tobias is a huge fan of old school prog rock! And apparently he also loves some obscure Italian prog rock from the 70's lol
im so proud my boy learned to play guitar so good, even with no sense of smell. - dewey cox's mom

The song is about withes. And cointains a line from "The Malleus Maleficarum". Wich is a witch huntingmanual from the medieval times.
