What a great man Jonathan Routh was. He ad libbed all of the time and came out with the most ridiculous statements that everyone took seriously. Both he and Arthur Atkins were total genius's. RIP both of you.
I'm more impressedwith how civilized and first-world everyone used to be. No shouting, no swearing, no violence, no knives, or gun threats, no 'bruv', or 'init', or chavvy/isis behaviour. Kind of depressing to realize how far we've strayed away from how advanced we were. And it's worrying it's over such a relatively short period of time.
They were images of the family - it's all right, we can probably match them up ! - so funny, as people have said , the public were much calmer then and more pleasant !.
Very funny, and another funny thing is that I didn't mind waiting 3 weeks for my films to be developed. The era now of instant gratification, and the ignorance caused by mobile phones, is too high a price to pay; and all we get is insanity!
The customer was quite calm as his film was "destroyed." Now, we have at least one generation who probably have never handled camera film. They'll probably think it's normal to unroll it all in daylight. Just roll it all back and it's good as new. :)
If I played the same trick on anyone younger than 30, they wouldn't know what film is. I tried to sell a film camera last year and the prospective purchaser wanted to know how many megapixels it was. I repeated that it was a _film_ camera and he said again "Yes, OK but how many megapixels is it"? He couldn't grasp the concept of film, so, in frustration, I told him it was 100 megapixels and he was very impressed. UK candid camera ceased in 1975 so this sketch is at least 45 years old. Back then, _I_ couldn't have dreamt of a smartphone and that it would have a _better_ camera than an expensive Nikon film SLR.
@@paulgriffiths6344 Haha. Well, if you were as old as me (and I bet your glad you aren't) he is a singer/keyboard player from the 1960's/70' and forever really. And...I hope you meant 'mate'. Hahaha.
Chinon cameras were very good and half the price of Nikon or Canon. Chinon made cameras for many other well known camera companies (even Bolex). They were sold at Dixons in the UK as "Prinz" or "Prinzflex". I have a Chinon - It's nearly 50 years old and works perfectly. It's never been serviced. I doubt if any digital camera will still work after 50 years.
The guy in the white coat has lost two digits on his right hand. Wow, I remember that Photo's used to take between 2 - 3 weeks until you got them back, and how expensive the films were.
Feck, arse, gurls and drink, I don't believe it! The similarity of this man and Father Dougal McGuire from the sitcom Father Ted is absolutely striking. Don't see it? Watch the end of this, you'll see the same kind of empty look and big exaggerated smile when he realises being on cam.
I’m currently sharing some very rare Candid Camera pranks on my channel every Tuesday. They are already scheduled for weekly release for a whole year. Enjoy 🎥

Am here in the USA watching this and reading the comments. So that's how you felt over there in Britain as well. Because alot felt that way over here. I fear that there building up for something BIG . And I mean really BIG
I may be wrong, but people seemed to be somewhat more compliant back then. And I'm not saying that's a good thing when you allow your film to be ruined.
It was pretty much the norm back then, 2 to 3 weeks to get your pictures back. Some places did express service, a day or some one hour but that came at a premium cost usually about three times the cost of the 2 to 3 weeks service.
Even now with digital cameras, I take only a few good shots instead of the hundreds young adults take now. I will have 2 or 3 good photos and my adult son will have taken 40 nearly identical boring shots of the same thing. I take a distance shot and then a closeup. What a waste of time to keep or sort through all of them. It took time and money to have your film developed then. Do the job right in the first place so you don't get burdened with so many duplicate photos. There should also be a better way to express ourselves. Those days people were too polite and now they are too rude.
As the French say, "À chaqun son gout". You're perfectly entitled to your opinion. As a Brit, the poignancy is in the calm manner the customer is exhibiting. You'd have to have lived in England (back in the 60s and 70s) to appreciate the humor. In those days British police didn't carry guns because even criminals had an element of restraint.

Agreed, they were both brilliant. I did particularly like Arthur though.
even when a person was angry he still kept his cool back then, unlike today

@ 3:09 "That's half a film gone now"
"I better have a look at the other half. I thought I had gone right through it"
ha ha ha ha ha!!!! :-)

"I thought it would be 2 to 3 weeks". Can you imagine that with today's selfie generation!
They'd s@@t themselves if they had to wait up to 28 days for delivery, like the way it was back then lol
I got my Kodachrome back the next day in 1973.
As long as its got the right amount of perforations, that's the main thing. LOL
Classic 😂❤❤😂❤
We're golden years back then
When England was great people ❤❤
This kids so cool....contains himself in such a bygone British manner
The guy holds it for him while he exposes the film. 😅😀😅
Brilliant how clerk had misdirection for everything the guy said
This is from a time when people were nice, and well manered, Nowadays you dont complain, for fear of being abused.
do u not fear grow a set
Yeah Skinheads and hairy monsters. lovely people
That guy looks nice, but he might be one of the first serial killers in UK
people didn't complain back then, but they took all the anger out on their wives, nowadays this doesn't work because even the wives complain
That customer was bothered about the cost of replacing the film, but what about his photographic memories on that film?
I'd have gone mad photos are precious today priceless tommrow
Holy shit that guy's Eyebrows are incredible @ 2:53. "Do you mind if eye-browse around for a bit?"
What light did you use 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Brilliant.. We will match the pictures with some we have the same...lol
Fantastic
Today there would have been a fight I think, or angry threats of being sued
Wow he is pretty calm
The guy in the white coat looks like and has very similar mannerisms as the school teacher in "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory"

Chinon cameras, that brings back memories
they were shite

Jools Holland when he was a photographer!

my recording of this came off uk gold cable channel where was this shown ?
Why did they make no further seasons when the last one finished ? , such a shame.

Still waiting for someone who appeared in those pranks to leave some feedback...
ANYONE???
Epitome is British decorum. Cheers. Except I think if he ever hears the word, "perforations" again, he'll lose it!!
Always knew Dixons didn't know anything about film and cameras!
Seems ever so slightly, a bit, contrived. Technical information these days only needs electricity. Eh?
