Scarecrow545 There's a strong argument for EVERYTHING in theory...that doesn't mean you can't consistently call that lots of innocent people will get killed in the process.
bloodrunsclear No, if it's truly benevolent no innocents will get killed. The reason it's theoretical only is because a truly benevolent dictatorship can only last as long as the dictator remains benevolent. As soon as he dies and is replaced, or becomes corrupted, it ends.
The interesting thing people forget about anakin is that he NEVER believed in the republic or democracy: only the Jedi and the Force. Why wouldnt he? The republic failed to save him and his mother from slavery; but the Jedi did, it was their strength that set him free. Anakin only ever saw the concept of representative governance as apathetic, corruptable, and greedy. Seeing those traits worm their way into the beaurocratic Jedi council likely pushed him farther into Palpatine's evil grasp.

Dictatorship by force? Sure, as long as it's SMART people in charge!
What he is defending (and what you're talking) sounds an awful lot like enlightened absolutism.
The mantra was "Everything for the people, but without the people".
It wasn't as bad as recent dictatorships as it allowed freedom of speech and... stuff.
And by all means it was not as bad as what the dictatorship Vader gets.
Smart doesn't mean benevolent or just... I don't know what are they thinking... but even Democracy is not a democracy.... So I'm open to a change of system (just not any of these at it is)
There is a strong argument for benevolent dictatorship, in theory.
Scarecrow545 There's a strong argument for EVERYTHING in theory...that doesn't mean you can't consistently call that lots of innocent people will get killed in the process.
bloodrunsclear
No, if it's truly benevolent no innocents will get killed. The reason it's theoretical only is because a truly benevolent dictatorship can only last as long as the dictator remains benevolent. As soon as he dies and is replaced, or becomes corrupted, it ends.
@@bloodrunsclear As we all know, western democracies have killed very few innocents in the past century.

I heard a hint of Anakin’s betrayal when he said “Well, if it works.” AAAAAAAAAH
who’s here after the meme template
1:20 this scene can really become a good meme template
The interesting thing people forget about anakin is that he NEVER believed in the republic or democracy: only the Jedi and the Force.
Why wouldnt he? The republic failed to save him and his mother from slavery; but the Jedi did, it was their strength that set him free.
Anakin only ever saw the concept of representative governance as apathetic, corruptable, and greedy. Seeing those traits worm their way into the beaurocratic Jedi council likely pushed him farther into Palpatine's evil grasp.
i like how you cut just before anakin shows that hes joking to her and they start laughing, excluding nuance nice work
Palpatine a few years later: It worked!
padme: "that's concerning"
also padme: "kinda hot tho"
Palpatine sent Anakin a link to 4chan a couple days before the movie started
Anakin was right all along, democracy is a ruse.
But imagine if Anakin caused something much more hideous than the actual prequel canon. A Jedi Civil War. Would you still agree?
No he was never right. He proved how much better democracy was by helping to create that awful empire
So what would be the alternative?
We laughed in theaters on the 4th when he said “alright i get the picture.” 😂❤
Based anakin
"Dark curly hair..."
"Alright I get the picture"
And then he grows dark curly hair in the next movie.
i come back here because this scene become famous as meme right now....
The dig to that childhood crush of padme...who went on to become an artist...imagine he getting rejected from the art school....!!!
Whole new concept...😂😂😂😂
Anakin: "I think we should kill democracy in favor of one old wise wrinkly guy forcing people to agree at gunpoint."
Padme: *Wetter than Manaan*
0:43 I don't think the system works
She should hear his Thesis on the issue.
It's the only way to get a full grasp of the dichotomy.
People admitting Anakin has charm here with the “they only work on the weak minded” and “I like two or three” lines is good to see.
Anakin is unironically based.
How?

@@Fall3nAng3ls that doesn’t answer my question
@@joshuawillis602 "democratic" republics are bourgeois dictatorships pretending to be democratic.
Anakin supports the kind of ideals of Plato and philosopher king, in Platos most notable work, The Republic.
Yep. I was waiting for someone to bring that up. The dialogue is actually vague enough for it to be interpreted in multiple ways. But a lot of people in the comments have seemingly stuck with one possible explanation.
Whole of internet is filled with this meme suddenly not sure why. I had to do a google image search to find the source.
Their stares at the end lol
As a fellow democracy hater, I completely agree
But imagine if Anakin caused something much more hideous than the actual prequel canon. A Jedi Civil War. Would you still agree?
I hope you never get in a position of power. Nobody should have total control of the people
@@joshuawillis602 stop worshiping democracy, it's an objective failure of a system that inexplicably chooses the worst leaders almost every single time. Actually, it is very explainable, but the word I want to use to describe it might be shadowbanned

Yeah, fascism has a real good track record. And noone wants to live in the democratic countries. Life is afwul there! Let's head to Turkmenistan.

@@Testingthisname Is that a very sad attempt at trolling? Germany had the most severe depression after the US and in every other country than the US, the depression was much shorter. Germany's economy had already begun to consolidate before Hitler came to power. After wards he completely ruined Germany's finances to arm the country. The instrument he used was called MeFoWechsel (Metal research exchange). It appears to me that you actually don't know much about Germany. It's also a silly argument. Plato’s Republic sounds similar to what he’s proposing. “Someone wise” is kinda like Philosopher King.
If Qui-Gon had survived, like a father he would've supported Anakin's love for Padme.
