if you look at 1:53 those two doors to the right didn't match before the new paint anyway. If she didn't care before, she won't care now OR she can use the rest of that gallon to make everything the same now that she knows how to do it. Either way, what we learned was how to paint-match, prep, prime, and paint, and Mauro did all of those.
I have these cabinets. Original to my 1950 house. I will never replace them, so I appreciated this episode very much! 🩵 Not a lot of info available on restoring vintage metal kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
He took the shelf to the store to match the cabinets paint, but that shelf had a different shade of paint since it was not exposed to a light, grease, smoke, dirt, etc. and ended up having a different shade of paint on that cabinet that's not matching with the rest of the cabinets. He screwed up a big time. She now has to paint the rest of the cabinets in that color 🙄
So he matched a paint that hasn't been exposed to as much every day kitchen use. Which probably means it's much closer to the original color. Why wouldn't he use that again? I must've missed the part where she said she wanted to keep the faded, rusted, and stained look.

Haha. Yep, replacing those dated, loud metal cabinets would be the first thing I'd do. Full gut and replace. It makes that kitchen look like an office break room and just does not go with the style of the house.
@@csimet LMAO, how do cabinets that are clearly original to the house not go with the style of it? Not everybody wants to live in some bland modern home.
It matches the rest of the cabinets, it’s the two doors next to it that doesn’t match the rest. I agree with everyone, paint them all. It’s a nice kitchen.
If you look closely, when he removed the sample shelf, IT didn't look like it matched the upper cabinet doors. So, he got a different color...agree w repainting them all
Great video, thumbs up, i am gonna paint a couple tool cabinets that the paint is gone and spray paint and i do not work well, being able to roll it on would work
The new color doesn't match up to the rest of the cabinet door. Perhaps you should repaint the whole cabinet set since its color have been faded troughout the year.
"We've got the colours matching perfect", and I'm thinking, no you don't. But I don't think it all matched in the first place. Should have painted them all.
What product and is the process if my metal cabinets are currently painted with oil based paint? I want to use a water base paint now. What steps do I need to take so the paint does not peak off?
This is great. The only problem is the sanding because these are so old that they lead paint. You really shouldn’t sand them. That’s my problem in my house. I’m not sure what to do because he can’t sand it.
All of them needs to be repainted now. Colors now don't match. You will never paint that matches from 50 years ago. I would have painted it a Makita blue.
The paint does not match the cabinet that the doors are on. Why did he not prepare the inside edges of the doors? Why not take the doors off and paint them elsewhere? This is NOT a professional job!
Not to dump on Mauro too much here but... this is just about the worst way I think to do this job. The sample he took was probably great because it was as close to the original color as they probably had. That's good. But because of the way they actually did the work in the video, they're going to have to paint around so much stuff to get it all to match. Should have taken off the doors and shelves and painted them somewhere else, then did the rest while that was drying off. It's good information, but poor procedure.
In the old days... a good body man would paint the entire side of a car to make the new paint 'match' the old paint. Assuming side damage repair... I don't think its had time to dry completely. Looks like it's in need of one of their multi million dollar renovations...
looks like the whole house needs a revamp, it is stuck in the past and looks awful, perfect chance to redecorate the kitchen but no, stick with that awful out of date colour.
Have you ever owned a home where the previous owners wanted to "revamp" to something not "out of date"? You'll find engineered hardwood that is 95% compressed fiber. Under that, you'll find the trendy (at the time) tile. Under that you'll find the trendy (at the time) linoleum. Under that, you find the trendy (at the time) painted floors. If you scraped that paint, you'll find beautiful "out of date" hardwood floors. Nope. No need to make it look like every other flipped house flooding the market with agreeable colors and the same mass produced cabinets and counters. This is their home, their time, their money, and they should live in a place that makes them happy.
@@obviouslyblack I actually agree with OP. Much needed revamp. And no, revamp doesn't equate to tired old decor choices you see in other houses. They could do a more modern take but still 60's inspired. The reason most renovations look the same is because most people lack any creativity. They don't know what they want, so the designer and/or contractor recommends whatever is trending. But if the homeowner has a bit of creativity and vision they can come up with something stylish and uniquely their own.

Is it just me or at 7:52 are the 2 upper cabinets to the right way off on the color?? They look light blue…..🤷🏻♂️
Yeah it's way off, they probably need to paint everything.
Yeah because they took a shelf that hadn't been exposed to light for 50 years to the store. SMH.
Probably not completely dry yet.

Why didn't he just take the door off? Probably would have matched better.
Why did he not check for led paint b4 sanding?
I don't know why they don't just chip off some paint and let them color match.
Is color matching bad?
Please share the color code!!!
Good tips. Paint colors are hard to match. In my opinion, you should’ve painted all the cabinets then they would match.
Mauro is the goat true professional I don't think TOH had a painter before him?
Yes they did and was back when they put out real videos and not this junk.
When Marro Talks it reminds me of the Comedian Father Guido Sarducci.
They need to keep painting. It was close, though.
I have some amazing retro metal cabinets that I love but they were painted grey unprofessionally and I would like to paint them.
Sand , clean and paint . But don't forget the drop cloth and a 1/4" roller for a smooth finish .
Use an oil-based paint and not a water-based paint.
