    This series has held up very well. Tight, compelling little stories and the Norths have a lot of charm.

    There has been a countless number of tv crime shows with a beautiful female lead but even today Barbara bretton in my view is still the most gorgeous. What a stunner!

    at 5:50 note Natalie Schafer, the splendid actress who did loads of TV and some movies but is only remembered now for Mrs. Thurston Howell on Gilligan's Island.

      She was excellent in whatever role she played. One notable movie role of hers was a scheming patron of the arts with a penchant for younger men in the eerie film "Repeat Performance" in 1947.

    Totally unfamiliar to me, I did my own type of sleuthing about Mr and Mrs North -- googling! Backtracking to their inception led me to Wikipedia articles about Mr and Mrs North and their creators Frances and Richard Lockridge. They began life as New Yorker cartoons.

    • @matthewkoch6937
      @matthewkoch6937 4 роки тому +1

      The novels are engrossing, the Lockridges knew how to write great whodunits, as I learned my freshman year in college.

    Impossibly impossible, but still fun to watch. Alan Mowbray (the murderer) played in a Sherlock Holmes film with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, "Terror by Night." He was a leftist, but a good actor.

    I read, on IMDB, that Richard Denning was turned down by Warner Bros as he looked too much like an actor already on their books. Anyone have any ideas on who that actor was?

    • @Carly8Corday
      @Carly8Corday 5 років тому +1

      @@leilal8053 Exactly what my guess was going to be. And they being MEN, they couldn't tell that the resemblance though quaint and distinct was limited; that Robert Young was hardly a bit handsome, had almost no hair, and what he did have was of no particular color, whereas Richard Denning was as glorious from hair to toenails as Adonis.

    • @Carly8Corday
      @Carly8Corday 5 років тому +2

      Richard Denning also lost ground in the biz because of military service.

    • @Carly8Corday
      @Carly8Corday 5 років тому

      Somehow I suspect Robert Young himself queered any deal Richard Denning might make with Warner Bros. Firmly entrenched actors like he was could do that. Glenn Ford used to queer all sorts of things for other, less famous actors. I'm just quoting things I heard said on TCM. I heard once that it was nearly impossible to get an actor to be Veronica Lake's leading man, that one famou8s guy was asked and replied, "No thank you. Life is too short." I wish googling would turn up the name of who that was and the story on WHY she was shunned like that. Loud and clear on TCM commentary, not a word to be found on the Web.

      And yet it seems to be holding up for most of us. How do you account for that? There used to be a mannerly way to say it. Just type IMO. IMHO is better, but I don't see that as forthcoming. Not just from you. It's gone almost completely out of style.
