An Elephant Chase! Mambo Runs After Bubi & the Whole Herd Come to Protect Her

- Mambo follows Bubi around, challenging the female, until Bubi has enough and runs away in distress. Mambo chases after her and soon the whole herd reacts, trumpeting and running after the two elephants. They surround Bubi to protect her and make sure the youngest elephants, Khanyisa and Timisa are in the centre of their circle of protection. Mambo flaps his ears on the outskirts… One can only wonder what he’s thinking…

There’s always that one family member that has to push everyone’s button. As much as I love seeing the Elephants rally together, I would not want to be standing in their path when they come running! I guess we can say that Mambo definitely adds excitement to the herd. What an instigator that boy is! I’m glad Bubi is doing ok. ❤️
Exactly what I was thinking....every family has a Mambo. (And they always show up for family reunions, even when you secretly wish they wouldn't).

@@sandrab2589 yep. They dare not stay away from the people they frustrate. Where two or three are gathered, you will find a Mambo there. And he's going nowhere! Causes trouble, and then demands to be included in the group activities. He wont even leave early to let everyone breathe!
Mambo you little rascal, there's always one in the family! It's incredible to see how they all came running to help Bubi. To see our sweet little Khanyisa run among the group was such a delighful sight!❤😘❤🤗❤

Bubi was just minding her own business. Glad she wasn’t hurt. But it was a wonderful sight to see them immediately running to her aid - they are amazing! And Little K kept up with them!
Wow that was interesting to watch. 😯Love how herd came fast w/ loud trumpeting to protect Bubi, one of my fav ellies! And even the little ones running in...too cute! 🥰Also thought it said A LOT that Lundi, Mambos mother, stood next to BUBI instead of her own son. Showed clear support for Bubi. Loved that! Shows she knows her son was wrong & being bad & that Bubi was one to protect & stand with. Very encouraging & comforting message for Bubi.
That also teaches Lundi's son very valuable lesson...not standing w/you when you're being bad. 👍👍 She's precious & important elephant of herd. Love her! Thx for sharing. Glad all turned out well & safe. 😃💟🐘🐘🐘🐘

Wow, watching that video was amazing. Even my heart was racing. I am sure they challenge for their place in the herd, but watching the herd rally around the challenged one was just unbelievable.
This is definitely where the carers are in danger with the herd running to help from everywhere.

Fishan constantly amazes me. The way he is always protecting the little ones. Here he is in the middle to protect an adult member of the herd, Bubi, with his bad leg & all.

Yes I was also surprised a male would pick on a female.
I remember a story years ago about a herd in Africa that was on a reservation of some sort and they separated them so that the teenage boys were all together and no surprise, they became a gang and sort of wrecked havoc everywhere. They eventually had to put adult males and females in the mix with them To put them in their place.
Mambo doesn't care he has to be the bad boy of the herd even though Lundi has taught him better. He is the reason Baby K can't stay with her mother in the homestead, because NOBODY knows what Mambo the trouble maker will do next. 😆
It’s actually common. A typical herd is all female and the little ones. When the boys in the herd get close to teen years, they start causing trouble by challenging, physically pushing primarily the adult females, including their own mothers. (Mambo does it with his mom Lundi.) The ladies then band together and push them out of the herd. It’s a great way to prevent in-breeding.
@@gabe-po9yi True and they will mostly team up with other elephants and the older Males will teach them how to conduct themselves. Since Mambo is in a herd with females and he will stay in that herd and not be run off by the females. I'm sure Sebakwe, Fish, and Jabu will keep him in line if he gets to out of hand.

Whew🙀!!! I’m glad that is over. It’s amazing how fast things happen and how much strength the bull elephants have. They have compassion for the one who needs them, and little Khanyisa right there with the big ones.

Poor Bubi! Mambo can definitely be a bully sometimes which isn’t very nice at all. The herd was foraging peacefully and Mambo caused all this ruckus. You’re a very bad boy Mambo‼️
Mambo is such a nudge and button pusher, every family has one…but what they don’t have is a whole family to protect them unconditionally, we can learn so much kindness and loyalty from elephants.

Gosh, these animals never cease to amaze me with their intelligence. Protecting an underdog en masse is wonderful to watch. I wouldn't like to get in the middle of the herd when they're agitated like that.

Goodness, that was terrifying. Poor Bubi! I'm glad no one was hurt, I imagine there's not much the carers can do other than stay back. It is always a breath taking sight when the herd comes running to one of their own in distress.

Mambo is feeling his oats. As a human I wouldn’t want to get too close when he’s in that mood. Love how other’s came running to keep all safe. Even baby. Kanaysia. She’s learning elephant now. 😊❤
Bubi may be a little bit hermit, but she's still valuable to the herd. Everyone came running (actually speed walking) like wind.

It was interesting to see Mambo challenging and chasing sweet Bubi, knowing how sensitive and oftentimes skittish she can be. I really felt for her. But, how reassuring for Bubi when the others ran to her rescue. That must have made her feel good. L The HERD'S primary focus was protecting Bubi and Khanyisa and Timisa. One takeaway for me from this chase was a life's elephant lesson for Meisiekind, in seeing her family react to such a situation and being part of her HERD'S trumpet call of immediate assistance. Every such event is part of Khanyisa's learning curve! Thanks all!

Mambo being mischievous is still one of my favorites, I believe he will grow out of his teenage antics and blossom into a true leader in the herd.

Wow....we learn from nature. We learn balance by watching nature. The herd is so amazing how they communicate and understand each other better than we humans do. ❤️ I find that the more I watch the natural world the more I understand. I don't like Bubi being intimidated like that , but after all, it is nature. I so love the way the whole herd came to Bubbi's aid. Yes Mambo, we know you are big and bad! We love you anyways.
@FTC, that is exactly what both Emerson and Thoreau taught in their literature concerning man's observation of the natural world. I so loved teaching those two Romantic/Transcendental writers to my high school senior classes. I never had to push the kids to see the importance or relevancy of literature to life with those two authors. How I miss the classroom and the "lightbulbs" that used to switch on so brightly sometimes☺😊 I wish UA-cam and HERD had been available to my students and me back in those days. What a terrific teaching tool this magnificent, dynamic, unique HERD would have been--better than any example Thoreau could have painted . . .

Great footage. Very, very interesting. Glad it was captured. If Mambo keeps on the herd may well send him packing to go find himself another Herd or create his own. I think this is how they work things out in the wild. I like how the rangers allow the elephants to do their thing with a laissez-faire approach and let the herd sort out the trouble.💝🐘💝

Poor Mambo...I do not think he is a bully like some seem to be suggesting...he cannot help being driven by his hormones and instinct ...it's not as if he thought to himself "let's see how I can upset one of my herd family". I'm sure Bubi will be fine once it's settled down.

Interesting how Mambo still wants to cause trouble, even at the end, but is being prevented from doing so by the other elephants shifting to stop his movement towards Bubi.
I hope Mambo doesn’t try bullying Fishan; whose injured leg might make it harder to protect himself. Glad the ladies seem to enjoy Fishan’s company 😊

Poor Bubi but was so interesting how the HERD came running to protect her to know who was in trouble. Oh and brave little Khanyisa getting into the action, instead of her being the one to be rescued. Such an incredible bond of this group of orphaned Elephants that have become a tight group.

I know the others are there to help and steady the herd when necessary; I guess the motto is don't get stuck alone in the bush with Mr Mambo! Mambo reminds me of the oldest of my 4 sons. There was quite a lot of similar "sparring" amongst them in their teens. The youngest, who was also the smallest (& at 40, still is), didn't stand a chance in those matches. He has a gentle, loving personality and is a wonderful uncle to the dominant one's 3 daughters. He kinda reminds me of Fishan! ❤🐘❤
The oldest only dominated until the next to the youngest outgrew him. That put an end to their confrontations. It was wild in their teenage years. I was a single mom, so no "older bull" was around to keep them in line as far as agression was concerned.

It really is amazing how they look after each other. And that Bubi, timisa and little khanyisa are all in the middle surrounded by the herd. Mambo hopefully learned a lesson but I suspect they are a little like humans sometimes. Have to get a little wake-up lesson.

That Mambo, always testing the limits!! Quite the difference in temperament between Zindoga & Mambo, 2 young bulls, roughly the same age. I'm sure Z throws his weight around too. He's just more low key. Ooh, wait 'til mama Lundi gets a hold of you young bull. Another trunk smack is a comin'.

There is a reason young bulls get kicked out of wild herds to find their own way when they get into their mid-teens, and they often find an older bull that will teach them about a bull’s role in the world. He is just being a young bull, victim to his own hormones, he is not doing it deliberately, just instinctual. Sometimes they are very similar to young male humans, who show off and try to figure out their place in the world, but make bad decisions. Female elephants will typically spend their lives in their maternal birth herds and so experience life differently to the males, they are more social and tied into the group.
Mambo is ready to go to a new bachelor group.
