Like you mentioned it's about the intimacy with the water. Not only you fish where boats can't go and also catch more fish. The friends you meet on the water in general are also more responsible and respectful to the nature. Another reason is the peace and serenity of being out on the water plus getting the exercise I need. Harvest your own freshest fish is another bonus. Fishing from a kayak also greatly reduce the mortality rate of released fish. Win win for both human and fish.
My 72 year old father and I got into kayak fishing last year. I like it because I get to hang out with my dad and get some exercise. Catching some fish is a nice bonus, but really just bobbing about on the ocean is the best bit.
I love kayak fishing because of the peace and serenity out in the open ocean that overtakes me. I could fall asleep sitting in my kayak seat out on the water. I've never become seasick in the kayak, but I have on a charter boat. My biggest fish have also all been caught on my Hobie Outback... Santa Cruz of course. When I get too old to kayak fish... and that day will come... I'll buy a boat and continue my ocean adventure.
I also grew up bank fishing, but boy getting into kayak fishing was a game changer! I just wish I got into it sooner. To your point, I like the versatility and portability of a kayak and the community. You and TLA are what I consider to be godfathers of the sport and really learned a lot from the both of you! I want to share and grow this sport with future kayak anglers! Eventually, when my kids get older I may want to consider a boat so that I can bring them with me.
@@MooMooOutdoors getting them into swimming lessons first! My son is afraid of water. Even a little splash on his head in the shower freaks him out 🤦♂️ 😂
@@TheLostAnchovy lol. You know the routine Chovy. I need to kiss a** Moo when I leave comment on his video and I will tell you when I leave you a comment. Lmao.
Well done Moo! I admit, I first started kayak fishing so I could catch more ocean fish, but soon realized the kayak fishing community is full of awesome people. Thanks for doing what you do. Keep up the great videos!
I got the kayak fishing bug after watching your videos Moo, catching fish from a kayak is just different, and like mentioned, the kayak fishing community is some of the best people I have ever met. They are friendly and willing to help each other out at the drop of a hat. Kayak fishing also offers great exercise, and I can launch in places boats can’t, and for free!! This year my goal is to catch a halibut over 30”, my first kayak salmon, first kayak lingcod, and first time fishing for squid! Thank you Moo and all the other UA-camrs for your contributions to the kayak community!
I like your comment about your "intimacy with the water". It is hard to explain to others who don't get to experience this connection with nature. Similar to kayak fishing, I have been dinghy fishing for 25+ years, which I much prefer over a luxurious boat or yacht! I enjoy every second that I am out on the water with or without catch! Keep up with your awesome content!
Cool vid Moo! I also love the fact that the kayak was a Native American invention and even though the materials have changed and design features (such as pedals and sit-on-top style), this remains a tradition that dates back centuries here in North America! Just got new wheels with a roof rack and the seas look like they are calming down this week. I think you just convinced be to take the yak out!
I love watching you guys kayak fishing. I got a brand new paddle fishing kayak sitting in my home for almost two years now. 😅😂🤣. Maybe it will get used this year. 😅😂🤣👍🙏🎣⚒
I started kayak fishing when the pandemic started. It allows me to get on the water without the fear of getting COVID. That was how I got into it. Then through NCKA, I met 2 fishing buddies that make it much more enjoyable on the water. Also, I make jigs and tie flies. This allows me to test my own creation.
I generally fish on lakes, I find it peaceful and relaxing. The kayak cutting thru the fog, the water slapping against the hull, then someone turns on the leaf blower.
Can't wait to get out there !! Its been a little to windy . Plus been getting my truck worked on so I can load my kayaks and hit the water . 🤙🎣 Always look forward to seeing your videos Moo 👐👍🤙🎣🔥
Great Vid and Happy B-day to Chovy! Looking forward to taking my new outback out to the salt for the first time. Been itching to get out there and drag a butt, chrome or a filthy on deck.
Awesome people on this video. I love kayak Salty fishing because you never known what you gonna pull up from the bottom of the Ocean. And I love big Buts😉😂🤣😊
Hey Moo, I’ve been kayak fishing for 7 months now since I watch one of your video. And that’s what got me into kayak fishing. Can I come along with you guys when you guys go out there? Thanks in advance!
My wife vetoed kayak fishing like she vetoed a motorcycle. She thinks even good swimmers can die from accident on kayak fishing. What is the overall safety like and how often do kayaks flip, and what’s the most dangerous situation in kayak fishing? I guess having a good crew of kayakers is the key?
Kayak fishing can be dangerous but if you have all the safety equipment, have a buddy on the water, go out when is calm and know your limitations, it's pretty safe sport. I think it's time for me to revisit kayak fishing safety. I'll make a video on it soon.
Great video, this show you how tight the fishing/kayak community! I do enjoy fishing with these guys, it’s my extended family! I hope everyone don’t believe I would buzz them! The boater need to be more aware of there surrounding when boating with these kayakers! Tight line brothers
We love your videos! My brothers and I have a small boat but inexperienced. What are some good resources we can look up for Half Moon Bay or Santa Cruz fishing/Crabbing? Mostly about safety and safe conditions to go out. Thank you in advance.
Thanks. Check out my 10 must have safety gear video and Swell and Wave video if you haven't yet. If you have any specific questions, I can answer them for you.
@@MooMooOutdoors Thank you! Watched your swell video and now know more and feel more confident in looking conditions/weather. Thank you for practical application of the info with personal experience. Thanks you.
I was interested in kayak fishing because it seemed much simpler than launching a boat. However, the cost of the peddle kayaks was way too high for me. I ended up buying a used Kingfisher canoe with a trolling motor for half the price of a peddle yak. Edit: I see now that BKC has some much more reasonably priced yaks. So I may end up in a peddle kayak after all. LOL.

Yes, sir. Best part of kayak fishing is seeing my son, and hopefully in the near future, seeing my daughter, catching their fish off the yak. 😁🫶🏽

You had to throw in the "Outback" and brag about the 40 lb butt you caught. I wish you many decades of kayak fishing.

There are many affordable kayaks. Make sure they have a good after service. I've heard parts and warranty service are impossible with some brands.
