If the police and the law makers aren’t going to protect the hard working tax payers of this country, we the people need to protect ourselves.

Yup, but the scariest thing is that this is the sort of situation that led to the creation of mafias and vendetta-cultures in other countries. If you can't trust the police to do their job, or they continuously target the wrong people, people are going to say "OK we'll protect ourselves, from now on this is our thing" (cosa nostra in Italian).
Or just move out of blue states

Ten years ago at a gas station I worked at, a thief was caught red handed my manager tried to stop him from leaving he snuck past my manager chased him. The guy came around the corner and a vendor of ours smacked the guy in the face with a hand truck. He was swinging the hand truck like a wrestler training a folding chair. The police came and took the thief away and thanked the driver.
They do deserve a medal absolutely. What is going on with the law or should I say no law. I believe if my mom never took a belt to me, I would most likely be in prison today. I thank God today for that belt. I can’t believe what I hear and see today. There is no fear of God today.

Thank God I live in Polk County Florida where our sheriff Grady Judd allows us to protect our property. He is known nationwide for his down to earth attitude and how normal citizens should have the right to protect themselves and their property.
Where's the public out cry for this business owner. A God whipping may be exactly what those thugs needed. Where's the public support for this man whose business has been robbed 3 times by the same criminal? It was assault it was self-defense.

I’m a 26 year urban police officer and about to retire. I know people say it’s unrealistic, but all normal, law abiding, rational citizens need to leave these cities. Also leave these extremely leftist states. I know it’s a broken record but don’t move to Idaho, Utah, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and vote progressive.

Utah and Idaho are not progressive and I don't know where gets this information. The progressive left States are California, Oregon, New York and the Eastern seaboard States. Tennessee and Indiana are definitely not leftist States.
When you are confronted by a burglar, you dissociate and produce a primal and trauma-based response. If it is your first encounter and/or you haven’t had enough time between them to emotionally recover (unlikely that it was this guy’s first), your body chooses your response FOR you. My body’s was to ATTACK and STOP the event. It was my second confrontation in many years, so the dormant anger from the first one came out. Not different from this - Megyn mentioned he’d had ‘enough’. It can’t be described, only experienced, how angry and mighty a normal and sane person can become, instantly, in this situation. You cannot stop what your body is doing. This employee was in a public space involving the safety of others…and his livelihood threatened. My responding police officers were validating. Their priority was my safety and to de-escalate. What I said and did to my burglar was reported, they followed due process but I was not punished for what happened nor should I have been. I am disgusted this employee is being evaluated for consequences. I am curious if it would be treated differently had the employee been a woman? I saw my event as a burglary only, and the police said it could also have been an attempted sexual assault…it was my swift reaction which prevents us from knowing. Maybe that’s what helped me? He should be commended for taking no time to act.

I am from the UK and unbelievably the Clerk would be doing jail time here. Look into the insanity of the British laws on protecting oneself or your home and family and you as Americans would be horrified.

I seriously don't understand our justice system. It's not even just this case, it's how you can take a crime, two people get charged, one gets probation and the other one gets 10 years. It seriously feels like district attorneys are playing poker with the defense sometimes. People get upset because we let all of these robberies and thefts off that you see in the media. However there's going to be that one guy that gets like 20 years for the same thing. It makes no sense

Protecting your own property, business or persons in a verbal or physical threat, theft, or damage, should have rights against anyone who's stealing, not exiting your premises when told to leave, on your property or in a business without permission. How much crime would that stop? Think about that for a moment.

These aren't federal laws. These are state laws. Californians have been electing state legislators who support and pass laws like these for decades now and they will keep electing these types of state legislators until either the state goes bankrupt or there is no one left living in the state. If you live in California and do not support these laws you are in the minority and you are always going to be in the minority. Move to a state where you are not in the minority. Stupid people deserve the results that are created by their stupid decisions and the more times they keep making the stupid decision the more they deserve the consequences of that stupid decision. Nothing is going to change in California as long as the majority of the people that live there are stupid.

Liberal America at its finest. Charge the clerks and not the criminal
The last time NYC had a conservative mayor (decades ago) was when the city finally got cleaned up. Giuliani made a policy of enforcing the law and punishing small crimes, which sent a message to all criminals and cut down crime big time. He cleaned up Times Square and made NYC a much safer place to live. I think that tactic needs to be used again.
If they put up a go fund me (or the equivalent that won't shut it down) for these employees I have NO doubt it will be funded. What the guy got was a whoopin' and he deserved it. It was self defense at that point. Stealing isn't harmless: the insurance may pay but it'll also raise rates and that is less money for the owner and the employees to live on. Letting the criminals get away with it isn't doing them any favors in the long run. One day they'll REALLY run someone not afraid to fight back and get themselves killed.

When I first saw this video, I laughed. That beating was well deserve. It is sickening how those store owners/clerk are now being investigated for beating the robber in that liberal cities. The police don’t care and will not investigate the robbery but if you protect your business or property, you will be investigated. Backward times.

They should not bother to call the police. The thief can call them if he needs them.
It's simple. If law enforcement will not do their jobs and enforce the laws. Then those breaks of the laws will be enforced by the citizen and taxes should be reduced as there is no point of paying someone for not doing their job!

Is an excellent question...and in this case, with anyone who would condemn this man with the stick for "assaulting" the thief, the question is always "what happened before that?" Before any of us were born, a social contract was struck in the which we, the people, gave up some of our rights to protect ourselves from crime and the government assumed the responsibility to protect us from criminals. This is what happens when government shirks its responsibilities under this contract. If government won't protect us and our stuff, we'll assume that role. The criminals won't like it when citizens start acting on the assumption that the police won't do their job.

This is California and should surprise NO one. Calif will use the term: Use only the force necessary to neutralize the threat. Too much force will result in an assault and battery charge against the victim. Knew this was going to happen. In California you must shop lift over $950.00 to be arrested. It has become a free for all in Calif. This is a classic example of a homeless person shopping or I should say stealing. Look at the number of stores closed in San Fran for this very reason. Not just Mom and Pop stores but major retail chains leaving San Fran. Citizens have had enough of defund the police, California downgrading punishment for crimes and victims are now treated like criminals and criminals are treated like victims. This video validates California continues to digress not at a linear rate but now at an exponential rate. You can't make this stuff up. On Aug 07, 2023 California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a controversial new law regarding judges' discretion on whether or not to add individuals to the state’s sex offender registry who have committed sodomy with minors. Calif Law continues to be eviscerated by the Newsom. I would like to thank all the citizens who voted for Newsom to make this possible. If your children are violated, remember you cannot cast the first stone, you voted for Newsom. For those who did not vote for Newsom or the majority in the State House, Assembly you have legitimate rationale to be figuratively up in arms.

I have no idea why anything is open between 9 PM and 4 AM. You certainly don’t need to be out getting stewed, if you haven’t eaten dinner, go home and make a bowl of soup. Not much good happens between 9 PM and 4 AM.
