Eggesford Level Crossing

- Saturday August 3 2013 at 10.06 am. The brakes of the 8.53 Exmouth to Barnstable (10.35) train can just be heard right at the start as it stops by the crossing so the conductor/guard can close the gates. It then pulls into Eggesford Station and was still there 10 minutes later. At 10.14 the barriers lowered again. The front of the 9.43 Barnstable to Exmouth (11.19) train can be seen in the station and its conductor is seem walking back from operating the crossing barriers. The station is a passing place on this single track line. A token is passed from the first train to the second as there is little or no signalling on this line. Interesting that it is deemed safe to drive trains up to this level crossing while there are vehicles using it, but elsewhere, even when there is a long gap between the station and the crossing, crossings have to close before trains reach stations. 37 people use the station on an average day although hardly anyone seems to live here.
You went on to the crossing before your exit was clear Mr Steve!
That was a really long wait for a train.

5:04 - you kept rolling through the "STOP" sign - you are legally required to come to a complete stop.
In the Uk we have a few signs..
Give way = give way
Stop = give way or stop
No one really cares unless police are about..
Well, this is a bit stupid if you ask me... How is a lorry or a car that’s pulling something behind it meant to bloody stop right there when it’s gonna be *partly ON THE CROSSING* causing an obstruction to the crossing? If the crossing had activated and the vehicle had already started to cross, there’s no way it can be able to stop as the barriers *could* potentially collide with the vehicle if the driver doesn’t clear the crossing in time and *IF* the crossing operator doesn’t stop the barriers.
LoL??
Stupid lorry stole your place at the front
Yup.
