- Here we have a NC-300 in need of repair. Many issues. However well worth repairing. This is the all time great AM CW receiver. I have a great example of this receiver that I run on AM. If you ever have a chance to acquire a nice one, snag it!
There is nothing like the feeling of operating these old boat anchors. Who needs this new software defined rigs? I can talk to whomever I hear. They love hearing the vintage sound. Why change? - Навчання та стиль
Its always fun stringing dial cords just love it LOL.
Thank you!
Lo Felicito por enseñar a una niña lo que usted hace. Excelente!!! Respetuosos saludos desde Argentina.
Top stuff!
Shortwave girl was right again. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! BTW I hate stringing dial cords! Toughest part of any radio repair in most cases..
Wonderful spending time on old technology ... we need to get young people to learn the old technology
Man O man Terry, growing up in China Lake Ca. ( a huge Naval Weapons center and Naval Air Station China Lake )
I see a BAZILLION surplus everything they the Navy Dept. would throw into these huge long land fill type trenches out next to Dry Lake on the Base and it was a Guitar Player to be and his aspiring musicians to rummage thru all of that old equipment.....You would of been in D-Lab heaven could you have jumped down into those two HUGE ditches just full of it al!!! Those trenches were probably about 15' deep and about 30' across and about 100 yards long with sloped ends!!
Nice to see Short Wave Girl back! She troubleshoots better than I do. Always enjoy new content from D-Lab!
Terry thanks for the excellent demo, I own one of these NC-303 Radios, Replaced all of the tubes and the old Radio still works for it's age. Can't complain I got it for Free about 25 years ago.
Thank you, Terry! I don't know how I missed this for so long, so many of your vids have helped. I have had one of these on the floor next to the bench for 3 months after getting so frustrated trying to get this dial cord back, and I have the same instructions. I thought I was going to have to pull the face and I really didn't want to.. the right side plate is the answer.. well tomorrow I give this a go. I've already recapped it, checked the tubes, cleaned... finally I hope to finish this! Thank you sooooo much DE W9BED!
Teaching her some really good fundamental reasoning skills for fault finding.
What a lovely young lady, I’d love to get my little granddaughter interested in this type of thing when she gets older. Wonderful to see such a lovely young girl so engaged and interested.
Ya Grandpa, it was the wire not the socket... Now can we go to Disney World? - Lol...
Another great video - thanks from Australia
Wow Terry, the last time I heard the term Hanger Queen was 1984 at Holloman AFB! Nice to see
there are a few of us Air Force guys left using that terminology! I Enjoy your videos as always and hope to see you in Feb at the Vintage Radio swap meet in Farmington Hills.
Thank you for this video on the NC-300. I have one which I bought from eBay and it is a real beat up receiver. Dial string is off. soooooo this video is really good for me. LOVE the capacitor in the tube socket invention. Short wave girl kicked your butt again but that's how it is. I picked up the NC-300 as I have an NC-303 and was curious if the "Dream receiver" is better? Gonna find out soon I hope. I love all the work and style you put into your videos. Cheers.
That was way cooler than the Heathkit IT-12 signal tracer I cleaned up tonight! W0KU
i hope ya compensate the tech well-that fingernail detail is worth it-thumbs up!
Terry! you are lucky the instructions were provided; I usually had to restring without a diagram and figure out the turns ratio, "one of the reasons I hate doing dial cords".
You are a good repair man
The hard part is when, after the boss proves to be right, the boss hovers around watching you work. I noticed that after she left the repair progressed nicely. You're right, Terry - ya gotta relax, man... you've got a really cool boss there! BTW, I heard a couple guys on 160 AM, around 1.875 talking about Johnsons, and one fellow mentioned D-Lab. 73 OM and YLB (young lady boss)
Great video, thanks!
Thanks Terry, really putting out a lot of great content lately!
Always listen to Shortwave Girl. She can save you time and money for sure.
Really Nice work.... and of course Emi was right on the money !!!! always a good video on your channel !!
thank you
🍸👍
Another fine brain surgery performed by the one and only.
I saw a post on HParc page of an up coming vintage swap shop including a tune up and cert for older equipment..February near 12 mi Farmington rd area..
Short notice if you decide to travel for a day Terry.

00:48 - Most of those dial-cord fixes will cause me to run screaming!
Unlike an octopus, I don't HAVE eight tentacles!
Solder or braze a washer on the outside to fix the oversize hole.
0:02 - Terry, I trust that you now have 'complete appreciation' for this fine unit? :)
Would you work on a Mark 3 golden eagle?
Ever work on eico equipment? I have a 525 with a big problem.
What about that yellow wire at 18:40 with the loose end?
Ahh, good catch, That was the wire that went to the 3rd terminal on the original filter cap. I decided to put that cathode cap direct on the 6AQ5 tube socket. Then only used 2 of the large radial mount type for the new adapto-tube-socket replacement. The yellow wire has been abandoned on both ends. Very observant. TD
Great job, Terry, as always! Hangar Queen? Is that USAF slang for a Parts Set? 😊
I’ve got a 300 and 303 in my pile of projects. You’ve inspired me to take a look at them....soon. Good work from SW Girl/Radio Tech!
Would it be a Hanger Queen or a Cann Bird?

I'm not familiar with the term Hanger Queen.... was that a song by Abba?
Old military term for an aircraft in the hanger that you rob parts from to fix another.
Hey D lab... What is your call? I'm K0MAY looking for a good elmer or repair near me! I love these videos!!
16:15 Lol Em
Thank you!
