Thank you for all the information. I use it to predict how our induction coils will react during full burn. They operate in the 80 to 120 Hz range and can and have been affected. It makes me look much smarter when I tell them about field variations before they actually happen.
I was doing some 40 meter CW, QRP at 8:45 UTC Jan 1st Band was full of strangeness, I did make a contact with a fellow ham from New Mexico, I am in washington State. Both of us were QRP, I was using a Mfj Cub 1.5 watts, and Paul was using Ten Tec Scout at 5W QRP. Hay even QRP can work duiring poor conditions.
This is amazing to know. Likely because solar flux is pretty high so your signal refracts well, extending your range, even with low power. But I would have imagined QRN and QSB to be a problem right now. That being said, expect both of these to increase over the next 24-48 hours. Thanks for reporting!
@@TamithaSkov On normal days, evenings I can make contacts and have made contacts to Europe, Japan, and the Philippines using the CUB that puts out 1.5 watts, CW mode. Making contacts across the U.S. and Canada is often done any day of the week. But the solar storm as you know effects signal and makes it more difficult. TU for you forecasts always reminds me that the Sun effects us in so many ways

I love the visualization from the SDO/Aia team....between them and the spiral views it is very informative. I do wish, however that the spiral views also reflected the turning of the planet....I'm also interested in how the galactic influences modify the impacts.

It is because the coordinate system we use in heliophysics is Sun-centered, not earth-centered. Therefore, you have to imagine yourself as the Sun, looking at Earth. That way, the East and West limbs of the Sun are reversed.

It sure is! This is old Region 3514, but it has been renumbered 3536. It has been growing this whole time on the sun's farside.
