- Well, I finally got my very own Jayne's hat today so I thought it proper to post this clip. I know there are a couple other clips out there, but they don't go to the end, just before the opening credits start. This one does. Enjoy!

And the crew is completely supportive of Jayne's love for his mom. Some things ARE sacred.
That's one of the things that probably made Jayne switch sides from the first time he met Mal and Zoe at gunpoint. Not only did the prospect of getting his own room and a higher wage entice him, but also Mal and Zoe had honour.

My mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas one year. She's great at knitting, crocheting and sewing. I asked if she could knit me Jayne's hat from Firefly. She just looked at the picture and said "Done." Been wearing it for over 5 years. Fans of the show see me with it on and ask where I got it and if my mother would make them one. She's been doing that for the same amount of time.

I like how genuinely excited he is that the package has a gift, like he stops reading the letter to get it and put it on without even brushing it off. Like a kid on Christmas
One of the saddest missed moments from Firefly in my opinion is that we never got the chance to meet Jayne's mother.
For some reason I imagine her standing at about 4'9", shaped like a sack of potatoes, and being sweet as peach pie to everyone else but about the only person in the verse able to reach up and drag that big ape Jayne around by the ear when he gets out of line. xD
You would think that now Joss Whedon is a big time director, he would have the clout to try and get this series back up and running again.
We meet her in the comics, which is officially canon.
She'd probably make "funny hats" for everyone on Serenity, Kaylee would probably love it the most. Hell she'd make sure Vera gets the proper TLC it needs when Jayne ain't using it.

Two main characters dying on the page (and one in real life. RIP Book), the series has over a decade of expectations to live up to. While fans would probably appreciate anything they were given, I don't know that anything could quite live up to the legend it's become. Too many possibilities of what could or should have been.
I love the subtle connotation that Jayne has a little sibling that's ill and his family maybe doesn't know how he makes the money he sends to them.
Also note that he's holding two pieces of paper- the letter and what may be a photograph. He absolutely has the photo somewhere in his bunk from this point on
I like how the letter points out that Jayne isn't quite as much of a selfish jerk as we were lead to believe up to that point in the show: He may like any chance he can get to make a little more money, but the letter shows he also sends a good deal of that money to help support his family.
I'm currently reading the Firefly novel 'Big Damn Hero,' and just came across a part in which Jayne has a run- in with a jerk in a bar who refers to his hat as a "Clown- hat" and also makes fun of his name.
You can probably guess how Jayne reacts.
You've read Big Damn Heroes!? So have I! I read the next one Magnificent Nine, it's centered around Jayne, and it's REALLY good!

I can just imagine Jayne walking down a street wearing that hat, someone starts to tease him, then sees the expression on his face and thinks better of it.

Even as he defends his mom's mail to Shepherd Book, Jayne does listen to the package. In his defense, he was likely half-expecting to need to placate the crew over a ticking alarm clock.

I bought myself a jayne hat from a lady online calling herself Ma Cobb. Wore it to a sci fi convention and a guy in a browncoat gave me a free ticket. Skipped two hours of waiting too.

I had a nice lady make me one after i saw her ad on facebook selling toques for kids. well i showed her the pics and she was like' no problem' 25 bucks later and its perfect.....except she made it kid size so it makes me look like I'm half a moron or a giant half a moron.I still love it though.

No, but he's just as socially awkward as one Timelord in particular so I can see the confusion.
My boyfriend's mom knitted me a hat. A couple of hats. Right now, they are hanging on the back of my chair because I refuse to lose them. I panicked a couple of times because I thought I lost them. I won't even let my boyfriend touch them.
