  • Florida shrimpers first netted the nocturnal pink shrimp in 1949, bringing a frenzy of fishermen to Fort Myers Beach. Hundreds of boats once offloaded at the local shrimp docks. Today, fewer than 40 come to port as development, economics, and the environment take their toll. Through seven decades, shrimpers have struggled against adversity. How much longer can they survive?

The amount of comments here shows tha public apathy about Florida grown business.😡 Shrimp is a god made food that feeds humanity, god bless the shrimp fleet.❤️

Wild caught Gulf Shrimp are head and shoulders above any farmed fish. It's a shame what development has done to the fleet

Also a shame that these boats were in a pile after Ian for months, and only a couple of weeks ago did they say all of the boats were back in the water. Until watching this now I never knew just how important the boats were to the history of FMB. Been here for 14 years and finally figured I'd watch a few videos about the place, and it is fascinating.

@@brandoncuts82 👍 I would watch a lot of scenic videos and "things-to-do", or the history of Edison & Ford in Ft. Myers, and other than talking to actual locals and Park Staff, that was my knowledge of its history. Ian got me looking into things and one thing led to another and I was fully invested. Ian was so traumatic for all of us and it made me want to dive in to the origins. It's a very unique area, and I love it.
