I like my squier got it supposeldy used (couldnt have been used for more than a week) mainly for the color and then dump 300 into it in mods and better than a fender. still cheaper
I have a fender mim with maple fingerboard and a squier classic vibe with rosewood fingerboard and the squier sounds way better and is also easier to play. I got the squier first and thought I was upgrading when I got the fender and I never use it. The classic vibe is a great budget guitar and sounds amazing. No desire to upgrade it at all.
And there is no comparison unless both are played through Marshall FULL stacks @ 160dB. I don't even consider it real unless I can knock down the front row!
Shiro Yaksha I have a squire bullet tele. It feels and plays as good as the 1000.000 tele I used to have. I would never have thought that was possible, but for 130.00 on sale, it does. It doesn’t sound as good, but still it’s fine for the price. If I weren’t lazy and or cheap, new pickups could make it sound like the expensive guitar I’m sure.
Mark Knopfler, who I hope I wouldn't need to introduce to anyone here actually couldn't even afford an amp back then. So he played on cheap borrowed acoustic guitars. He wrote sultans of swing on one such guitar. There's like a 10 min vid of him talking about finger picking etc and he says most of his songs are written with basic chords and acoustic guitars. My point is, that skill is waaay more important than any instrument. Beethoven could decimate all the modern pianist on a cheap 300$ electric keyboard, guarantee it. ( Of course that wouldn't be worthy of him, but you get my point)
@@CaptainPupu while yes, skill over money, Beethoven is probably worse a pianist than great contemporary pianists. In general, modern pianists (like I don't sokolov or levit) have more competition than back then and probably excel to an even greater extend than Beethoven would.
Whenever I play a Squier I'm surprised, in a good way. They always seem to be more than what you paid for. Here the Fender win, but not by a landslide. The fact that you can compare a Squier to a Fender with a straight face speaks volumes as to the quality of the Squier.
A “high end” squier is basically a mid level fender. If you pay $300-500 on a squier you’re getting a fender in the $800-1500 range. Let’s be real. And the small upgrades you could make would bring it to fender quality easily. Things like locking tuners, PU upgrade, bone nut etc. And voila, you have a nice fender. But if all you care about is a name then good on you. Same with epiphone and Gibson. 🤷♂️
I think they both sound great. Of course a more expensive guitar is going to sound better out the box, you get what you pay for. However, the beauty of a Squier is that you can customize and upgrade it with more expensive hardware and pickups over time if you like to make it 'yours' and sounding better- and still keeping the price tag low.
At the end: the audience dont cares about your equipment if it "sounds good" to their ears.. doesnt metter if its $3000 worth or $150.. thats the reality a lot of musicians dont like to accept
True! I've watched a couple of masterclass videos by some very well-known artists and when they talk about gear, all of them say that they don't NEED most of the gear they bought to make and sell their tracks. They're just passionate about it.
Thats really true.. But we only bought the best quality for ourselves because we are passionate about it. And i dont think most musician want the best tone for the audience. It is just for themselves
Yep, the lights come on and the drunks are herded to the door by the bouncers & staff. Most everyone on their way to Krystal's, Subway next to the club or over to the Waffle House for breakfast. Others going to a bottle club to party some more.
Truth words!!! I have learned this self, have not belive this but one day a jazz guitarist have made a blind test video with the same song but two guitars. One are the gibson es 335 the other the epiphone dot!!! If i heard this i was in an other world! Its not more the Quality different than more the tone self!!! Thats absolutely crazy what we get now for 150$ to 300$ !!!! Extreme good guitars in sound, feeling by playing, and look!!! Qualiti made for a few bugs, Unbeliveble!!!!!! ...but its not so that the cheep guitar are the same like the expensive one! Differents are here, but its a question of the money you have!!! If you have enough for a handmade! Why not!!! But its good for people thay have not the money for a 2000$ guitar and thay can buy a cheep but good Instruments, and have more money for a good amp who make today more different, but also new good and cheep amps are also here on market!!!! So we need no more the money like from 20 to 50 years!!! That was a other time!!!! ...but xour words are corect
The Squire sounds excellent! Back in the day we would have killed for something that good at twice the price ($ adjusted for the year)! Of course you could get a brand new Les Paul, Strat or Tele for under 800$ then also. It seems THOSE days are gone forever! The big guitar companies are insane with thier prices.
The Squier was a bit darker and, to my ears, just a bit murkier than the Fender but for the cost difference, I wouldn't make a big deal over it. It could also have been the fretboard, or the cable, or the pressure of your fingers, or any number of things. Both sounded excellent and you're a fantastic guitarist.
Actually one of the biggest influences for the different type of sound was the fretboard wood... can't compare rosewood to maple, man... obviously they will sound different...
same here, not that big of a deal. I was thinking of upgrading my stratocaster from a squier to an american strat, but after watching this, upgrading the eletronics and get a better amp will do the trick. Also for reference, check out the fender cardboard guitar, it sounds like the average american strat, but it's made out of cardboard.
This video proves that it's the player that's most important to the sound. Both guitars sound great because of who's using them. Tone is %90 in the fingers.
The fender is better, I have also tried squiers and I prefer my mexican stratocaster anyday. That being said, the squiers are not bad and they are very good for their price. And by the way, excellent videos, they deserve more views and great playing
i have an american stratocaster and play a lot more acoustic and i'm selling it and sticking with my squir for if i want to play a bit of electric here and there.
If I had to choose, I would actually pick Classic Vibe over MIM stantard. I've owned both, and the MIM had very squeaky and tense top end / upper mid range and overall the sound was somewhat thin and lacked punch. CV was more well-rounded and smooth, although pretty musty. It was a bit cheaper too. Instead of buying MIM strat, I would save money for couple months go for American Special Stratocaster that costs just few hundred bucks more.
I came to this video hoping that I'd find either no difference in tone or that the Squier might sound better. Unfortunately, the Fender makes a strong case for itself. I have a '95 American Standard Start that I bought new and it still sounds great. I have a 2006 MIM that gives up nothing to my '95 American Strat (I recently put Fat 50's in though...but even before that, the MIM was on par with the American Standard that I have). I started on a Squier 26 years ago. Perhaps things have gotten better, but I could never get that thing to stay in tune no matter what I did. I still have it, but I haven't touched it since 1993.
I think the fender wins for obvious reason however, at the end of the day it all comes down to the musician. A god musician will make even a 50 dollar guitar sound good.
Another thing that I never considered till I got a fender strat is how good it feels to play because of the rounded frets and polished neck. It makes practicing super enjoyable and I end up putting many more hours than I did with my Squier.
Now this is absolutely the biggest difference IMO. It's not even so much the sound, it's the slight variations of quality. Honestly, I can play a less expensive guitar for a while and I won't feel anything negative, just different. But when you pickup the nicer guitar it just feels easier and nicer to play. Is that worth the cost? I would say probably not in a strict value sense, but IMO that's what the cost difference really buys you. Subtle details that make playing easier. It's kind of funny when we suck we usually have a harder (cheaper) to play instrument. And when we have the most skill that's when we get the easier to play instrument hah.
This. 70% of the Fender guitar experience is the smooth, lacquered necks. They feel amazing and make it super comfortable and easy to play, and it is the most noticeable difference if you upgrade to a Fender guitar from a
I agree his videos are so informative and original, his editing is great, the quality of the video is good, the light in every video makes it feel comfortable to watch. And when he is doing lessons its so easy to watch and learn. Maybe he needs to show more personality to get more subs, I guess thats what people like.
I started my channel about 7 months ago, so it isn't weird at all that I don't have a million subs yet, haha! What do you mean with personality? I'd like to get to the point fast :) cheers
You seem to be an interesting person, but you are so formal in your videos. There are things about we would like to know. For example, when you and your dad fix the guitar together; what does your dad do? Are you from a musical family? How old were you when you started playing? Ever played on stage or in a band? If someone in your family plays something you could do a duo. Also there are some old videos on your channel about you driving a motorcycle. You could do a Q&A video, you don't need to wait for a round number of subs, even tho you are close to 30,000.
Depends if your getting paid to play it! I would think the argument would change depending on the class of guitarist. If I were a pro, I wouldn't be turning up to a studio with that Squier after having heard the sound of that Fender, put it that way. Home player's gonna think it's not worth the money almost every time. That's where I dwell. Unless it's a homie on good wages with a management job or with no woman and who lists cork sniffing and having to have the best of everything amongst their hobbies lol. That dude can keep his porsche, his Fender Strat, his vintage deluxe and his unpopular reputation at work lmao. I love my squier's.
With an EQ and a boost you probably couldn't tell the difference. It would clean up the mud in the squire. I can clean up the cheaper pickups with a DOD FX-40B. That's 100.00 for used Squire and 75.00 for EQ with line boost....175.00 total. A lot cheaper then 1200.00. Maybe 200.00 more for decent tuners, bone nut, and steel saddles. Still a lot cheaper.
The squier sounds more "high", and hasn't got the typical "clean" sound of the fender strat. It sounds more like a telecaster, I think. Upgrade the squier with good fender pick-ups, and it will be the same sound.
The Fender certainly has a brighter cleaner tone in this video, the squire having much less high end brightness. The Fender is the on the right, with the lighter neck.
hey I work in Afghanistan and I got an 80s Squire with me now. I mod the electronics and use a Line6 headphone amp with effects. Its the best setup and is not effected by the harsh weather. Sounds great, stays in tune, and when its time to move just take the screws out of the neck it goes right in the old seabag. Cant beat it
Other than the feel of their necks, it really seems like upgrading the pickups on the Squier would bring it up to par sound-wise. Which would still come out much cheaper in the end.
Yeah, the suit was cool. Reminds me of Joe Bonamassa. I've seen Pete Townsend and Eric Clapton in a suit. Very nice. A Suit reminds me of the New Wave days 1976-1985, and also the 50's. All the bands dressed up in suits in the 50's.
I never said they sound the same. But you can't argue that you heard a 4x's the price difference either. I thought "Little Wing" sounded better on the Squire with the Rosewood finger board. The maple was a bit brighter sounding. It's "The Law Of Diminishing Returns" Look that up on Rob Chapman's channel.
The squier is a fine guitar, very good for its price, maybe not a 4x difference in sound but the Fender is better, both in sound and feel. Actually low cost guitars are very decent instruments nowadays, the difference with the more expensive guitars is not that big but it is there
I think, what many folks fail to realize is that the Fenders of yesteryear probably sounded more like the Squiers of today, due to the differences in manufacturing capabilities then and now. As the years have advanced, so has the guitar maker’s ability to make superior elements like noiseless pickups. As they gradually improve the instruments, they breed out all the “impurities” we fell in love with when our passions ruled our playing. As a result, the newer and “ better” Fenders cost proportionately more, but have moved away from their humble beginnings. I like the raw and somewhat crude sound of the Squier. It is more like what I remember of my rock and roll past. It is the sound I want to escape to when I play for myself. Newer is not necessarily better. It is just newer. They both have merits, but I think the Squier sounds more vintage. And nostalgia is where I am at. I also don’t believe that, in order to sound “good” I have to,spend $2000.00 on a guitar. Skill wins the day over cost of equipment...
back in the day i had a pretty good squire. and I'm not an expert on them but I've seem some real crap ones. way too lite. and I'm sorry but there is a noticeable sound difference.
DutchGamer21 Actually I agree with the OP. I have a squire bullet HSS, and the description of toy is dead on. The moment I picked it up, it felt like I was holding a toy (being that it's so light) guitar, like the one is used to play with as a child. Even the feeling of the guitar felt quite odd to me. But the pick ups, sound great, and enjoyed playing it. My first squire, however had decent weight on it, which is why the squire bullet surprised me by how cheap it felt. I wasn't used to an electric guitar feeling so light. I have a MIM guitar now, and the weight is very well balanced and feels like I'm holding instrument, the pick ups are really good, so I'm happy with my new guitar. I still have the bullet, but that's because I can't seem to sell the guitar (most likely since it came out of the box with structural issues).
I'd like to see a scientific breakdown of the differences, starting with wave form comparison on single sustained notes. The problem with the cost comparisons are the extremes. Most musicians and audiences will be satisfied with mid ranged cost items. There are diminishing returns with expensive set ups, but a minimum bar to passable tonal quality and playability. Professionals need professional tools, amateurs not so much.
I love my '87 squier. As long as you have good strings, a properly adjusted neck, nut, bridge and intonation, a squire can sound and feel great. Would i prefer a fender? Yes, that little extra bit of quality is always nice. Would i give up my squier? Nope, we've been through too much Haha
Geraint Jones believe or not ...even the principal master builder "ron thorn" fender custom shop .. he said he's fav guitar was a squier 87 or 88 i forgot
Ha! I was listening blindly and waited forever until "the other" guitar would start playing on Ray Vaughan piece after a pause like in previous examples. But there was no pause this time and I couldn't tell where the cut was.
The difference in tone is so miniscule that it doesn't justify the difference in price. And its worth noting that he only used a Squier Affinity to compare against a US strat. A Squier Deluxe or Classic Vibe will sound and feel MUCH better than an Affinity, but will only cost slightly more.
Everytime see inexpensive guitar or hear about it reminds me of BRIAN MAY he could'nt afford a guitar so he built one using scrap materials and turned into a legend he's one of my biggest inspiration and some people get embarrassed about a cheap guitar they own when they can't afford so my mom ONCE said a person doesn't need a very expensive guitar inorder to get famous.
Scrap materials? Rly? He do his guitar from very well aged mahogany wood. Even this staff was from scrap, it was superb piece of wood. Brian May guitar is high quality hand made, better than custom shops expensive bullsh*t.
I got the Thin Line tele, Squier classic vibe. It's the best electric I've ever had in 30 years of playing guitar. It sounds good and it feels so great to play. Just had to comment when I saw yours.
great demo, happy to hear a good groove and a real hendrix feeling on little wing.. in my ears the fender sounds a little bit better next to the squier, but honestly, if there's one thing you really proove it's that the squier or fender doesn't matter, just the player make an instrument sound good or not , and you make the sound good both with the 2 guitars !
Paul, I am impressed with your demonstration. Of all the Fenders vs Squiers videos, yours is the best demonstration I've seen. I own 3 Squiers and 3 Fenders. Mind you, they are the higher end Squiers, but one is an Affinity like yours. I couldn't hear any difference between them. I would put the Affinity in there with the higher end Squiers. I've talked to Fender Customer support about them too. Fender made the Affinity as a high end starter guitar, as there is a large market for them. They also built a higher quality Squier for those musicians who cannot afford American or Mexican made, but still want some quality. These were Fender's words, not mine. I think they succeeded. There is still a mindset in the music world that unless you go with American made, you're going to get a mediocre instrument. I've tested many American made strats vs Mexican vs higher end Squiers in Guitar Center, all through the same amp, time and time again. And I couldn't hear the difference; not enough to merit spending hundreds of dollars more for the American. I'm reminded of wine tasting. Same thing happens there. With the exception of the $400+ bottle of wine, (and a trained palette) most people won't be able to tell the difference in a blind taste test between an expensive French Bordeaux and a $25 California wine. You could say the same thing in the art world. But, people have their mindsets and if they want to fork out the bucks for an American made, so be it. It's a free country. If you're going to keep the guitar your entire life and or hand it down to your kids then you're not in the resale market. As prejudice is still out there in the guitar resale market, American Fenders are going to retain their price value where the Squiers won't. With my higher end Squiers, I've replaced all of the electronics with Seymour Duncan pickups and better wiring. The Squiers also have that nice satin finish on the neck, which I really like and 22 frets instead of the usual 21. My Squiers kick ass and sound freaking awesome for way less than an American Fender. And I have no intention of selling any of my guitars. Think of it like buying a standard Mustang and having Carroll Shelby upgrade it for you. Now I know there are going to be trolls out there with their prejudices saying I don't know anything about guitars, blah, blah, blah, and a big YAWN - I'm not listening to their crap. I've been playing since 1975 and I've played all of the major brands. I've owned Les Pauls, SG's, Guilds, Ibanez's, etc. I like Fenders. Thanks again for your demonstration. BIG THUMBS UP! I think you've proven the guitars sound almost the same.
Golf Hound I believe I agree with what you wrote. One the though, I have the black Standard Squire with two point trem, AND the American Stratocaster.. I love them both to death, the quality build on Squire, and after a professional set- up makes it sound EXCELLENT, I love how it rings out TONE!!, and a pleasure to play. And the USA Stratocaster is well, worth every penny!!!! But I must say the black standard Squire with the two point bridge is a great guitar for live, or studio. I play mine every single day. Recommend them for sure!!!! Great video mate!!!!!!!!!!
As long as we’re not talking about made in China Afinity or bullet series Like i’ve said on another post, I’ve a MIJ ‘93 maple neck Squier and i won’t trade it for 90% Of the modern Fenders out there...
I hear more clarity and a fuller 'range' in the Strat. But, only because it's a direct, A/B comparison. You play either one of these in any normal, non-test situation, and it's all good. That said, it comes down to a few things: which feels better? Would i expect the Squier to stay in tune as well? Not so much. Am i so vain that i need the Fender logo on the headstock? Yes.
The squire seems to have a shorter neck? Is that an illusion or is it a mini? Also are they using the same strings, what effect do strings have on tone/sustain? Thanks for the vid, love it?
The sky is blue too. This fact is irrelevant to his comparison from the songs he chose. Now, as a financial analyst, if you want to talk that I'm all for it.
The difference is small but noticeable as usual. Its not 1200.00 better on sound alone but the overall quality of the guitar goes up quite alot for the buck.
I like what you did with the outfits. Squire is more accessible dressed down strat, Fender...a little more class and higher price tag. The contrast shown in the outfits. Both sound amazing in this vid.
You can hear a difference w/ good headphones. But it's not a huge, knock your socks off difference. Basically, if you have the money and you want the Fender, get it. It is better. If you don't have the money don't feel like you're missing out on something hugely different. Either play what you have and be happy or upgrade the pickups (the real issue) and you'll be 95% of the way to the Fender sound.
They both sound great but the the Fender Strat sounded more real, more all around dynamic and the Squire sounded very tinny and metallic and one dimensional. But they both sound great and you played well. Great video. Subbed.
+Claudio Cruzat one is better than the other, obviously tone is subjective, but no one likes muffled sounds; which Is what the squier is closer to, not too say it's bad, just not as good as the fender.
Fender has better tone. Probably because it has much better pickups and electronics. They could even have the same playability. I also noticed the Fender had better tuning stability. these are all things that can be upgraded if you aren't too concerned with the quality of the wood.
When you were barely beginning to play guitar did you practice new chords or licks everyday or did you stick to a certain piece till you played it well? 🤘🏼
Man the editing of this video is freakn Awesome 👊💥😁 Not to mention that the fender sounds a very tiny bit cleaner but the average Joe wouldn't notice...
Ceramic pick-ups in the squier? Done any mods to it? I bought the same Made in China model but i guess mine’s not an affinity, but it isnt a bullet either.
I liked how this video not only shows the differences and similarities of a Squire to a Fender guitar; but also highlights the importance of choosing the right type of wood on your guitar to achieve the tone a player prefer. The maple neck has more top end and clarity while the rosewood neck has a darker tone. Both sounds great, it's just a matter of preference.
I think the maple and rosewood neck make a big difference, and the pickups. If you dont have the money for a fender, but if you can buy a good squier and change the pickups it would be just as awesome.
I’m gonna be honest.. I’ve been playing guitar for 13 years and the Stratocaster has been my number one the whole time. I can barely even tell a difference between the two in tone😂
Of course the Strat sounds cleaner. The Squire has a warmer vintage like sound and i love that. I also play a Squire as my side guitar and i can tell i really like it. I didn't regret it.
The point is that if you are a hobi player in your room, by a Squier, but if you are a profesional player that plays on big stages, you will need a guitar with clearer and more focused tone. It really doesn't mather which one you have for your bedroom as long as it is easy to play and it stays in tune.
Why not find a Squier with a maple neck to make it a little closer comparison? Good video though, proves my belief that a good set of fingers, and maybe some decent pickups are all that really sets apart a $200 guitar from a $1500 guitar.
+Josh Richards Yeah... But when I find the same neck people talk about different cables, when I take the same cables it's my place in the room... It's always something! ;-)
I hear that... Just thought maple might be a little snappier and less dark for the Squier. I'm just happy it's not a "Squiers suck" video...Nice playing.
It's more about feel and the details than just the tone from the electronics. A great guitarist like the one featured in the video can make "cheap" guitars sound great, for sure. The Fender had a slightly better dynamic range, and was cleaner, you could tell very slightly there were a few buzz spots on the strings. But nothing that would kill any performance or recording. While you certainly aproach rapid diminishing returns in the cost of a guitar and overall tone, the little things like well rounded frets, a great action, and pickups that let you feel like what you are putting down is coming through go a long way in inspiring better playing. My favorite pieces of gear have always been the ones that help me feel like I'm sounding better than I have any right to at my skill level, even if someone listening can't tell the difference. Also a lot of economy guitars can sound excellent with a good work up from a skilled guitar tech or luthier.
Fender sounds more clear. Alright. But the pickups are the most important. There is an brazilian study that comproves that different woods for the body of guitar have a minimum interference in sound, if solid. Well, again, pickups is the real thing.
Nice comparison! Funny to hear that the Fender sounds brighter than the Squier, but I find the Squier more pleasant in the (lower)-mids. I went for a tone battle between een Squier CV and a Fender USA jazz bass and the Squier sounded a bit brighter and better defined as well. For battles this close, I do prefer Squier over Fender.. since in my opinion, the Squier is way better quality for the price.
THE BEST UPGRADE FOR A SQUIRE IS A REAL BONE NUT! The plastic nut is why the Squire sounds damped in comparison to the Fender. I made a bone nut for mine and the stock pickups sounded much better. Also, the tone nobs actually make a difference when you spin them. The bridge pickup is almost too hot. My Squire is a 2004 Affinity made at Cort in Indonesia. I've been using as a tool for learning guitar repair and mods. Great comparison, great editing, nice playing too btw. Bonus points for Fender guy's perfect matching ensemble including guitar strap!
Simple: I would prefer the fender, but I just don't have the money.
So squier it is.
Luckily the Squier doesn't sound bad either.
You could just buy the fender and put fender single coils in it. Same sound with a way cheaper guitar.
I like my squier got it supposeldy used (couldnt have been used for more than a week)
mainly for the color and then dump 300 into it in mods and better than a fender. still cheaper
I’m getting a squire
I have a fender mim with maple fingerboard and a squier classic vibe with rosewood fingerboard and the squier sounds way better and is also easier to play. I got the squier first and thought I was upgrading when I got the fender and I never use it. The classic vibe is a great budget guitar and sounds amazing. No desire to upgrade it at all.
i found funny that you were dressing a more low-priced clothes while playing the squier
Ig i didn't know why was that haha
Ig no, he was wearing rich clothes with the fender
I had no idea which was which because it was not written...!
Miguel paz it was
S.G. my mistake.
I won’t take this comparison seriously until you play Sultans of Swing
Ma man's got a point
And there is no comparison unless both are played through Marshall FULL stacks @ 160dB. I don't even consider it real unless I can knock down the front row!
thats so weird i just listened to that song before watching this video
Good idea!!!
can someone recommend me a cable for guitar hahaha
Just shows that even a budget guitar can sound wonderful with the skill you posses. Skill over equipments.
Exactly

True
True. Squier has come a long way.
@@fret2fret221 90% of the time fenders don't even come with locking tuners lol
True. Especially when you hear the gulf in quality btwn the Gibson Les Paul & Epiphone Les Paul
The Squier sounded mudier to me and the Fender pretty clear.
its the rosewood fretboard ;)
well my japanese strat doesn't sound that muddy and it has rosewood fretboard aswell
lol the pickup! don't listen to these fools talking about the rosewood and shit
Yeah i know.
The opposite to me, I think Im crazy
I think they both sound great. Of course a more expensive guitar is going to sound better out the box, you get what you pay for.
However, the beauty of a Squier is that you can customize and upgrade it with more expensive hardware and pickups over time if you like to make it 'yours' and sounding better- and still keeping the price tag low.
I put pricey Seymour Duncan pickups in my Squier Strat and it sounds fucking amazing. Hard agree
@@squirecdBut you can also do that with a Mexican Strat with the added bonus that it's more comfortable to play.
At the end: the audience dont cares about your equipment if it "sounds good" to their ears.. doesnt metter if its $3000 worth or $150.. thats the reality a lot of musicians dont like to accept
Victor A. Moscosa But a true musician, at the end of the day, has love for the music and wants the best quality for themselves and the audience
JDavidAnderson i agree, same observations here
squier*
Also Fender is high and thin and Squier not. On what to play depends on genre you play and you wishes as a musician.
Actually one of the biggest influences for the different type of sound was the fretboard wood... can't compare rosewood to maple, man... obviously they will sound different...
Do they use the same pickups? Would that not make a difference in the tone?
This proves that the amp is far more important than the guitar for a good tone.
Andrea Giustino nah, You should be able to easily tell that the squire sounds pure shit m8
That's my opinion. If I had to choose I'd get the Kemper :D
same here, not that big of a deal.
Tone is %90 in the fingers.
baumbor Trust me, you can't hide an ugly distorted tone with your hands. Not even Guthrie Govan can.
This proves that a really good guitar player sounds good on any guitar.
Squier : Vintage Sound, more Bass, less treble
Fender : Modern Sound, less bass, more treble
maybe squier dark neck sound is more bass and fender neck clear wood more treble
So just get a squier and turn down the bass on your amp duhhh
The tone more full
my squire has all and treble and bass and it is very cool guitar with low price
Minus treble ? Wrong. Check this out. ua-cam.com/video/s7ljTBxaO2E/v-deo.html
So that's what money sounds like.
MIM strat is like 350 used, Squiers usually go for 150-200
No, more what being able to play well sounds like lol
The same?
Fender strat sounds more clear and bright....
And has more sustain
Yup
Tone Pimp1 is more expensive too
yeah but thats Obvious
You get what you pay for
The fender is better, I have also tried squiers and I prefer my mexican stratocaster anyday. That being said, the squiers are not bad and they are very good for their price. And by the way, excellent videos, they deserve more views and great playing
i have an american stratocaster and play a lot more acoustic and i'm selling it and sticking with my squir for if i want to play a bit of electric here and there.
Your Trusty Hacker solid plan actually!
Chris Germanidis they are both fenders
I think the fender wins for obvious reason however, at the end of the day it all comes down to the musician. A god musician will make even a 50 dollar guitar sound good.
Just take for example zakk wild doing a cover of NIB on a hello kitty guitar, legit one of the best covers of that song ever
Jesse Harmon No, if he didn't put the names and you heard blindly you wouldn't be able to tell
Mac Demarco isn't a god but the dude can shred his $35 guitar
Jimmy Page plays a Danelectro guitar he bought at Sears. No kidding.
No...a bowed warped shitty guitar cannot be made to sound good by any player...wish people would stop repeating that nonsence
I would love to see this with the Telecaster
I love you

Squier teles are better quality than squier strays for some reason
@@nehemiahzo_ Its possible that its easier to get it right on a tele compared to a strat. Less variables.
Daryle Goh yeah. Squier teles are usually more $$$ too, so maybe it’s just a factory thing? Idk
Another thing that I never considered till I got a fender strat is how good it feels to play because of the rounded frets and polished neck. It makes practicing super enjoyable and I end up putting many more hours than I did with my Squier.
Evan Nagao AKA Evan From Heaven I got that sense when I tested one out
Now this is absolutely the biggest difference IMO.

Thanks! :D The numbers are increasing, so we'll get there. Keep on sharing ;)
I just found your channel. And subbed ;) Awesome skill dude !
The internal argument I always have with myself on this topic is: yes, the American deluxe does sound better. But... does it sound $1300 better?
Daniel Bell yes. yes it does.
I love my squier's.
no it doesn’t i think

The Fender is the on the right, with the lighter neck.
no. if only it worked this way.
glad I went back in time 4 years ..best and most fun comparison video ive ever seen !!!!!
wow i'm impressed. i love both tones! The squier sounds surprisingly amazing.
hey I work in Afghanistan and I got an 80s Squire with me now.
Jason, check out my very lengthy response above. That is exactly what I've done with my guitars.
Jason Caldwell the best thing would be to buy an american loaded pickguard and throw it in the squier....it makes them sound really good
What should you upgrade them to?

Both those guitars sound amazing. It may have alot to do with the guitarist.
Squier 70 %
Fender 100 %
✌️
A squier is not 70% the price though!
A little bit of noodling the settings on your amp and you will get that squier to sound the same as the fender and vice versa!
A guitar player. Hot damn. A GUITAR PLAYER IN A SUIT. HOT DAMN.
Yeah, the suit was cool. Reminds me of Joe Bonamassa. I've seen Pete Townsend and Eric Clapton in a suit. Very nice. A Suit reminds me of the New Wave days 1976-1985, and also the 50's. All the bands dressed up in suits in the 50's.
search in yt 'click five' lol
It's not the quality of the guitar or the value of their components. It's the player. In the right hands any instrument will sound good!
Mostly it comes to the Amp anyways. In terms of tone
Yes but now the only difference is the guitar, all the other parameters are the same and they don't sound the same
I never said they sound the same.
Actually low cost guitars are very decent instruments nowadays, the difference with the more expensive guitars is not that big but it is there
You're only to a certain extent.
I've been subscribed to Paul's channel for the last two years and just discovered this video. Great comparison, and much respect for the editing!
I like how you play Hendrix' chords when playing Hendrix songs. How it should be done...
The difference is noticeable. Fender sounds way cleaner.
played through the right gear the difference is less noticeable but off the shelf there two different animals. the squire feels like a toy.
back in the day i had a pretty good squire. and I'm not an expert on them but I've seem some real crap ones. way too lite. and I'm sorry but there is a noticeable sound difference.
I used to have a really good hondo v but there not great guitar as a rule *****
Better save up for Fender (Am Std for example)
I prefer the fender but the Squier is still pretty nice
I'd like to see a scientific breakdown of the differences, starting with wave form comparison on single sustained notes. The problem with the cost comparisons are the extremes. Most musicians and audiences will be satisfied with mid ranged cost items. There are diminishing returns with expensive set ups, but a minimum bar to passable tonal quality and playability. Professionals need professional tools, amateurs not so much.
🤡
A Squier Deluxe or Classic Vibe will sound and feel MUCH better than an Affinity, but will only cost slightly more.
true, but keep in my mind that a fender lasts longer, and feels smoother to play. but yeah, the price really is too high for the fender
To some perhaps. I think it sounds night and day.
As an owner of both, it's so much harder to get a good tone from a squier. The fender also feels a lot better
Evan Jarvis which squier and fender model do you own?
+burghaus 2007 affinity squier, 2001 fender hss strat (mexican)
Everytime see inexpensive guitar or hear about it reminds me of BRIAN MAY he could'nt afford a guitar so he built one using scrap materials and turned into a legend he's one of my biggest inspiration and some people get embarrassed about a cheap guitar they own when they can't afford so my mom ONCE said a person doesn't need a very expensive guitar inorder to get famous.
A good guitar is the one that inspires you to play more and develop... whatever price it is.
I personally love my $65 strat, it has very unique tone

Scrap materials? Rly? He do his guitar from very well aged mahogany wood. Even this staff was from scrap, it was superb piece of wood. Brian May guitar is high quality hand made, better than custom shops expensive bullsh*t.
Until now i still fallin love with my Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster 😍
I got the Thin Line tele, Squier classic vibe. It's the best electric I've ever had in 30 years of playing guitar. It sounds good and it feels so great to play. Just had to comment when I saw yours.
great demo, happy to hear a good groove and a real hendrix feeling on little wing.. in my ears the fender sounds a little bit better next to the squier, but honestly, if there's one thing you really proove it's that the squier or fender doesn't matter, just the player make an instrument sound good or not , and you make the sound good both with the 2 guitars !
😊
I don't think the fender is way better..
the Squier is just different..
kawaanime xv just different? Of course.. different like, one is better than the other different.
I think the Fender has a brighter cleaner sound. The Fender is also 5x more expensive
This is what we broke people say
Squiers are nice and affordable, honestly probably the best guitar in their price range
MICHEN3SEAkaFrank9 definitely agree. A lot of the 150 dollar epiphones are unplayable
MICHEN3SEAkaFrank9 you should get the Squier Mustang that’s a great guitar
As long as we’re not talking about made in China Afinity or bullet series
Like i’ve said on another post, I’ve a MIJ ‘93 maple neck Squier and i won’t trade it for 90% Of the modern Fenders out there...
Came for the comparison, and suprise: the playing is marvelous! thanks for that!
Absolutely awesome comparison, you're great 🤟
I hear more clarity and a fuller 'range' in the Strat. Yes.
All of the videos on UA-cam trying to get SRV's tone and you nailed it with a Kemper and a Squire (and Frusciante and Hendrix). Subbed. Nice.
I f'ing love how you gave both guys different personalities, hilarious actually
The squire seems to have a shorter neck? Is that an illusion or is it a mini?
Also are they using the same strings, what effect do strings have on tone/sustain?
Thanks for the vid, love it?
This actually surprised me. Ofc hearing them back to back there’s a difference in the favor of the fender but it’s not super crazy

We know squier doesn't sound as good but holy crap it's a lot closer than I would have thought
I like what you did with the outfits. Squire is more accessible dressed down strat, Fender...a little more class and higher price tag. The contrast shown in the outfits. Both sound amazing in this vid.

Hearing only with phone speakers I can't feel thousands dollars of difference. Ps. Dave your playing and your videos are awesome!
Subbed.
fender is real and the other is ..un real?xD. they are different . not worse or better.
+Claudio Cruzat one is better than the other, obviously tone is subjective, but no one likes muffled sounds; which Is what the squier is closer to, not too say it's bad, just not as good as the fender.
I desagree, Squire is good, and Fender is better no doubt about that, just saying.
Another awesome video from Paul. I really enjoy your content and appreciate you. Thanks for posting.
Squires sound kinda rough in a good way an fenders are super clean in a good way and I’m not rich
Fender has better tone. Probably because it has much better pickups and electronics. They could even have the same playability. I also noticed the Fender had better tuning stability. these are all things that can be upgraded if you aren't too concerned with the quality of the wood.
Fender's crisper, but as soon as you crank in a little distortion they're almost identical
wow the Can't stop tone is bang on, fucking awesome!
Only Paul could make a squiere sound so good. I've never ever got that good a sound out of one.

Pickups, buddy
I’m gonna be honest.. I’ve been playing guitar for 13 years and the Stratocaster has been my number one the whole time. I can barely even tell a difference between the two in tone😂

Of course the Strat sounds cleaner. The Squire has a warmer vintage like sound and i love that. I also play a Squire as my side guitar and i can tell i really like it. I didn't regret it.
Both sound fantastic, they both offer unique sound
I'm going to assume that the Squire is on my left ... the real Fender Strat is very crisp ... thanks for the vid
I'm just happy it's not a "Squiers suck" video...Nice playing.
nope, i really think the only dfference here is the neck :) really good work though
tonewood doesn't exist
Love this. Always got a humorous side to you Paul. Ha Ha. P.S. Nice Kemper in the background
Well, I have a Squier and it’s my first electric guitar. It’s affordable and you can play with it, so I suggest it for beginners!!
Fender sounds more clear. Alright. But the pickups are the most important. There is an brazilian study that comproves that different woods for the body of guitar have a minimum interference in sound, if solid. Well, again, pickups is the real thing.
A better guitar doesn‘t make you a better player... always remember that you rich kids out there!
The fender strat sounds better.
it'd better lol
xlifewritex better electronics
3:50 & 4:10 Really Perfect 🤍✨❤️🔥
Nice comparison! Funny to hear that the Fender sounds brighter than the Squier, but I find the Squier more pleasant in the (lower)-mids. I went for a tone battle between een Squier CV and a Fender USA jazz bass and the Squier sounded a bit brighter and better defined as well. For battles this close, I do prefer Squier over Fender.. since in my opinion, the Squier is way better quality for the price.
Tone is in the fingers.
Hhahahahahahahahaha fingers DI MARZIO.
monkymonk6 and in the €2500 kemper profiler theyre plugged into
m
In this case hahaha no its not
monkymonk6 and the quality of pickups, wood, nut, and the strings.
Great Playing. Can you compare a Mexican Fender deluxe strat Vs the American ?
Great!
For the sound of Hendrix Fender is perfect!
You play very well, one more subscribe
The Misirlou part got me so hyped! Paul is an awesome player, I'm truly inspired :')
