  • Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt 18g Brad Nailer Kit (NT1850DG): Not All Nails Are Perfect
The Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt 18g Brad Nailer Kit (NT1850DG) is a good choice for DIYers and professionals alike. It's lightweight, cordless, and boasts a long runtime on a single charge. But before you pull the trigger on this brad nailer, let's take a look at some potential downsides to consider:
Limited Brand Recognition: Metabo HPT, formerly Hitachi Power Tools, is a reputable brand, but it doesn't have the same brand recognition as some of its competitors like DeWalt or Milwaukee. This can mean fewer readily available accessories or replacement parts, and potentially less repair service options.
Lower Nail Capacity: The NT1850DG holds less brads compared to some other 18g brad nailers on the market. This means more frequent reloading, which can slow down your workflow on larger projects.
Mechanical Drive System: Unlike some brad nailers that use a gas cartridge or compressed air, the NT1850DG uses a mechanical spring mechanism. While this eliminates the need for bulky hoses or expensive gas cartridges, it might not be as powerful for driving longer brads (especially into hardwoods) compared to pneumatic options.
Battery Platform: While the MultiVolt battery is compatible with other Metabo HPT tools, it's not as widely used compared to some of the bigger brands. This means you might end up with a collection of batteries specific to Metabo HPT if you don't already own other tools on their platform.
Overall, the Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt 18g Brad Nailer Kit (NT1850DG) is a good option for casual DIYers or those working on smaller projects. However, if you're a professional contractor or require more power and versatility, it might be worth considering other brad nailer options on the market.

I don't think this is a "gen 2" version to replace the older 18g nailer. Seems this is a more cost effective/non pro, DIY option. I read somewhere it is spring actuated instead of a gas cylinder hence why it is cheaper than the original model. someone correct me if I'm wrong..

You’re correct there’s no way in absolute hell they’re replacing the nt1850df with this 1850dg (dewalt style mechanical spring driving mechanism which was shit) the nt1850df for the past few yrs was imo the pinnacle of cordless 18g Brad guns until the new m12 which looks promising…. I’m interested to see how their first original designed 18g m12 does cuz Milwaukees 18v model is damn near a direct copy of the hikoki nt1850df 18g Brad gun which used their regular air spring mechanism which is far superior than a mechanical spring but whatever it is there is no way that it’ll be replaced with this. As you said this is a cost effective option for their diyers and not a pro solution imo. Kudos to them for providing options to the USA market on this occasion because generally speaking with hikoki we see very few maybe a maximum of 50% of the tools released by metabo hpt /hikoki and it’s really a disappointment to see them release so many good tools on the Japanese market where then unless they sell really well incentivizing them to rebrand and ship them to N America which takes another 6months…all because the name is different? it’s more than just the name because if that were the case warranty etc would be the same but it’s not and if you import one of the hikoki tools to the USA for example cj36db the 36v barrel grip that’s never been launched in the USA, yet still if you pay to import it etc which ends up costing an arm and leg and then after all that , it voids your warranty because you imported it ?? That’s a bit ridiculous and certainly doesn’t incentivize brand loyalty at all. It’s just a shit show of disappointment at how disjointed the hikoki and mhpt arms of the company are from each other. The tools, honestly are up there with the best of em. Their cordless Nailers are 2nd to none imo and they do make durable well functioning tools with what was once a great lifetime lithium ion tool warranty which has been dwindled down to basically drills and circ saws…now all the angle and die grinders warranty is now only a single year which is crap) I mean the tools are solid man it’s just the corporate bureaucracy and bs that’s to blame for their lack of popularity

It seems to be this is meant as a more narrow and cost effective option to run alongside the other nailer. Can you check if their claims are true like shooting in corners etc

This is a pretty large nailer with few options. It is square, so it will fit into corners, but still large. Also, for corners, the nail is shot pretty low from the top. Of that was thier game, they should bring that nailer up an inch.
