O.k. guitar guys, just tell your drummers that the guitar lick begins on the & of 1. EVERYONE should know how to count in a band, not just the drummer. To solve dead air, he should be able to say.....3, 4 , 1 you come in on the & of 1 and the drummers fill starts on the & of 1 on the next measure. So a 1 measure fill guitar and 1 measure fill drum into the song. Believe me all the Nashville guys are counting time and not guessing or feeling their way through this. It is weird because the first thing you hear sounds like a dominate beat (or 1) on the guitar, but it is on the & which is the weak beat. This will make it throw people off. Even worse if the guitarist's rhythm is not precise. Don't fire your drummer because he should just feel it. He feels everything, but it is in relation to a common and expected groove and beat. If you want him to feel it in 7, he'll damn well be able to do it, but you gotta speak the same language. The language of time. Don't fire him because you don't speak the common language in music.ua-cam.com/video/dSDI41dU2q8/v-deo.html

Well, let me stay thanks!!! Great lesson on some fun licks. I am putting the song together now and your lesson was a great help. Thanks again!
P.S. If you feel like posting a lesson on the rhythm riffs and the solo in the middle, I will definitely use it and be thankful for it :)

@keytonez None. I've had this conversation with various drummers. I play the intro (the actual song) and say to come in where it comes in, if they can't handle it, we don't do the song that night and I have a new drummer by the next night. That first crack of the snare comes in on the first double stop of the guitar lick. I start it and it's their job to figure their own way into it. I don't allow any drum stick clicks or count off's into the song. Too much dead air time that way.

@bagify1111 My pleasure. You had better have some major strength in your left hand if you're going to attempt those bends on an acoustic.

+Groovy Music Lessons out of curiosity, have you played with many drummers that don't understand how this intro goes and simply can't play it? I've heard of multiple occasions where the drummer just can't figure out exactly where it comes in.
One band I used to play with had the drummer count it in (there wasn't dead air time since he knew exactly when to count it in even when the lead singer was still talking) and it worked out fine, it just seems that somewhat different timing cues are difficult for a lot of drummers
