Ely Cathedral is an Anglican church.
I hope that we will see and hear more of this beautiful music. There is too much noise pretending to be music these days and it is refreshing to see and hear something as beautiful as this. Thank you.

Why is she 40 feet away from the fucking choir??

the choir placement is almost certainly an auditory decision--they have to be standing in what has been determined over time as the best place for the voices to echo in the space.
the microphones are right in front of the choir director, and again they have probably figured out that is the best mike placement to get a good blend of the voices and the natural reverb.
but you would not want her body and movements possibly affecting/blocking the way the sound reaches the microphones, so she can't stand in between the microphones and the choir.
my guess would be that this arrangement is a sound engineering decision based on hundreds of years of singing and many decades of a capella recording in the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral.
they sound magnificent so they must be doing something right
I have seen videos of other groups recorded in the Lady Chapel and they have used similar placement of microphones, singers and conductor.
Last but not least, comparing the floor design with the size of the children she is probably a lot less than 40 feet away.

I'm not talking about the choir placement. There is no reason the conductor has to be that far away from the ensemble. It looks ridiculous.

By the looks of it, the choir is a combination of both the girls choir and the boys choir, so it is large for a cathedral choir, which would lead to standing back to conduct. I suspect the distance is not as far as it looks due to the camera. Counting the floor tiles no more than a few metres back from the outer singers. Interesting observation, but not sure your language is appropriate John.
