Interesting. I also found that overthinking for me was related to confidence and faith. I always overthink decisions I have to make. To the point where I can't act anymore. I call it analysis paralysis. When I realize I am in that state (which I am from time to time), I just tell myself that I am strong and powerful. Sounds a bit cheesy but it really does the trick for me. I think the problem most of us have is that we don't believe our own positive thoughts. We only believe our negative ones because they often represent how we feel in the body - achy, tense, etc. That's why it's hard to get out of that state. But when you realize that a positiv thought is just as plausible as a negative one, you may as well just believe the positive one. Just gotta learn to be less tense - because positive feelings don't go well with tension in the body.

Overthinking, and a great deal of mental illness, would be solved if people had meaningful work. People used to be employed mainly manufacturing and agriculture. These were occupations that produced goods people used and consumed. Also, they used their bodies more and sleep is better if one cuts wood for burning as opposed to running on a treadmill az a gym. Add to this group sports, hobbies, culture (music) etc and people wouldn't be so neurotic
I feel confused about what people mean by 'overthinking' because some of them can call your videos 'overthinking' for the reasons you talk about such as them being split off from their history and they do. And sometimes people say I'm overthinking when I bring out a topic they find uncomfortable to think about in a conversation because it's too challenging for them because they're used to things being one way and nobody challenging it and they want things to stay that way. I find that when I'm overthinking, at least I'm alert at the moment as opposed to being unconscious like I usually am and unconscious people that happen to be in my life and happen to be exactly like my mother want to put me back to sleep, into inalert state because I take any feedback from them too seriously, become overly critical over being 'such an overthinker' and shut myself, which can be really comfortable for those people. Of course, I notice when my overthinking can be unnecessary and a problem for myself, but based on my experience (what I described above) I can only trust myself in that as opposed to relying on other people's judgements. I also know intellectualizing stuff is one of typical schizoid defense mechanisms (although other people use it as well), so I'm trying to be connected to my internal feelings and see if I'm trying to avoid something, but then you can't just rely on yourself alone, but then I don't really have a therapist attuned to me, so... yeah. But while I haven't chosen to be a schizoid and I despise that in myself, I can't change this either as much as I wish I could

Doing, thinking and being. So I think the answer is thinking from a place of presence or being. Thinking that is grounded and limited in being. I think there two ways: via meditation (analysis) and through expression (art, empathy, play, flow); because being is creative. And what is more creative then Freud's Death drive (thanatos), which is principle of discontinuation and interruption, thus, rebirth.
I also think that overthinking comes when faced with situations that we don't understand (contradictory situations, for example). I was once in a hospital where I didn't understand the actions of a caregiver... little details that didn't fit... words that were slightly off the mark... it made me overthink for months (out of fear for the patients)... until I discovered that this caregiver was a real sadist who was in that department for his own personal pleasures. I was the only one who found him out. 😐
Wow! I'm hearing this more and more and we all have to trust our intuition esp regarding professionals in the medical system. They are not infallible to being human. So glad you shared your insight.

Upbringing, fear, anger, vulnerability, environment, status quo (situations) and let’s not forget genetics all contribute towards overthinking. I tried not to think too much when choosing reasons for overthinking but just looking at my comment before posting, I find it interesting that anger intuitively came after fear. Does this constitute overthinking or is this just part of cognition? Regardless what the answer is, wanting to know takes up more thinking in order to discern. Meditation can definitely help (without sounding like I’m preaching) but even deciding to do it can often be a challenge. It’s hard to suspend your control over thinking. It’s become even more difficult to do so with our new addiction to the abundance of information we’re able to access through devices which includes so many bells and whistles. This video is yet one more example of this. There is so much truth to it, yet thinking is just another consequence as a response to it.
According to Sri Aurobindo, there are four kinds of knowledge: 1) Knowledge by identity, which is the knowledge inherent in being. "All we know of it in our naive surface awareness is the simple fact of our own existence. Besides this, it is supposed to be the ultimate origin of the intuitive knowledge we have about the fundamental rules of logic and reasoning. 2) 'knowledge by intimate direct contact'. In our ordinary waking consciousness, it comes to the fore primarily in direct, pre-reflexive experiential knowing, as in our awareness of our own feelings and sensations. 3) 'separative direct knowledge', 'separative' because one distances oneself from what one observes, and 'direct' because it does not need the outer physical senses. The difference between the second and the third type is that in the second type one says, 'What a great day', while in the third type one says, 'I seem to be happy today'. In other words, in the second type one knows one is happy without any need for reflection, while in the third, one looks at oneself as if one looks at another person and one comments on what one sees. The fourth is our ordinary sense based knowledge of the physical world fully 'separative and indirect' : here one experiences oneself as entirely separate from what one observes and one knows indirectly by means of the physical senses." [I would be inclined to say that your belief in the goodness of all people is really instinctual or intuitive knowledge which comes from one of the higher levels of mind and is does not in fact, have anything to do with superstition. It makes sense in a basic fundamental way.] "For our ordinary surface life the division may not be so interesting as these four modes of knowing generally occur together, but for the development of psychology the distinction between them is crucial. The reason for this is that science has mastered type four, 'objective knowledge'with stunning success but has failed completely to move ahead with the other three. Early attempts to use type three in introspection failed as it turned out to be too difficult to make introspection reliable. As far as type two is used(in therapy and skill training) it is limited to its most simple and superficial manifestations. Of type one, we have only used one derivation successfully and that is mathematics and the basic intuitive insight that underlies much of scientific development. Yet it is type three, type two, and a more complete version of type one that we need of we want to take psychology ahead. The Indian tradition has put a tremendous effort into perfecting all three, and it is this that makes it so valuable for the further development of psychology. " [Indian Psychology Institute: Sri Aurobindo's four types of knowledge and their use in psychology] 🙏

One way to solve overthinking is to sharpen ability to feel normal body sensations, which are constantly new and like a continuous movie. The body is a gift that can help save us from our mind.

One reason for over thinking has to do with biology. It has been shown our unconscious mind, based purely of emotions and instincts (so the lizard and mammalic parts of our brain) make all decisions in a split second. Then the rational part (most advanced part, human only) rationalizes those decisions with reasons that make sense. So for people who are disconnected from their emotions, they are effectively in a state of indecision. That's why they appear to over think. In essence they're not over thinking, they're just not thinking in the way we were made to - with our emotions. Another part is that we've been ashamed so badly for so many behaviors, and also just randomly - that for every decision our brain is basically calculating: can this trigger someone? Am I bad if I do this? Can this be interpreted in a bad way? (...) Abuse created all these filters which our brain runs every thought through in order to try to avoid further abuse. The solution to this is to see why are we disconnected from our emotions, what are we running away from, that is so painful, that we dissociate or numb? We need to heal that part of us. And then we need to heal the parts of us that are still scared of being abused for being ourselves, scared of saying X and y or making a or b decision for fear of being shamed and put down. After that overthinking will be gone.
Daniel, have you ever done a video on DID (Dissociative identity disorder)? If not, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. Thank you for your videos.
There’s a lot to say on this topic. Overthinking being comfortable- yup it is frequently. I think courage is sometimes helpful when it comes to solving overthinking...atm this is a brief version comment on this
I was initially confused as well cuz I believe there's only correct thinking and incorrect thinking but I think daniel means the practice of catastrophising and worrying as an unconscious method of coping with fear and anxiety.
For me, overthinking has always been a step to go through a level of deconditioning. Opening my eyes to the depth of sexism (which victimizes all genders) or culturally deconditioning myself from eating animals, it took me phases of super intense thinking, research, obsessive thinking, etc. I have a bit the same thing when I have to finish an architecture project or the writing of a movie: several weeks in a super nervous energy level, having 1000 ideas in the middle of the night, having to develop them during the day at high speed, brainstorming for hours until finding THE solution... 🥵🤯 (But I am very happy afterwards because I come up with ideas that amaze everyone)
I agree with most but encouraging people to be celibate for a while is too much of an introject than I would want to hear. This conditions the perimeters of this thought paradigm to individuals who can be celibate. What if a person cannot be celibate for a while, this will not solve mental health problems but create a cult of thinking, although I agree with some of it.

Another reason of over thinking is cognitive dissonance, especially after being gaslit by malignant narcissists
Wow 😂 Amazing! You really did the work. OMG 😮 U r a gift 🎉 THX😅
You should check Franz Ruppert, an his method IoPT. ;-)
There’s a lot to say on this topic. Overthinking being comfortable- yup it is frequently. I think courage is sometimes helpful when it comes to solving overthinking...atm this is a brief version comment on this
There’s no such thing as overthinking. It’s a way to process things. Keep thinking.
I was initially confused as well cuz I believe there's only correct thinking and incorrect thinking but I think daniel means the practice of catastrophising and worrying as an unconscious method of coping with fear and anxiety.
Overthinking is splitting yourself from emotions.
You will never know truth through the intellect

it's a endless loop
Do you watch Eric Dodson by any chance? This reminds me very much of the videos he makes.
👍👍
I agree with most but encouraging people to be celibate for a while is too much of an introject than I would want to hear. This conditions the perimeters of this thought paradigm to individuals who can be celibate. What if a person cannot be celibate for a while, this will not solve mental health problems but create a cult of thinking, although I agree with some of it.
Meds are solution
