Great video. All problems stem from WRU, and until they are dealt with it will be dark days.
I read somewhere though that Wales never had a large debt on building the principality? A lot of EU money going in, and therefore they never had to get serious about their finances. Whereas the IRFU has always had to watch every cent, being the fourth most popular sport. Compounding the issue was the Welsh golden generation. Basically a perfect storm of having everything come easy.
Now that that’s well and truly over I hope the WRU is properly gutted and the money goes back into the rugby, as it should. There’s nothing more damaging than corruption.

      Thanks mate. Very kind 🤙🏼
That debt thing is an interesting one. To be honest, I’ve never heard about that but it makes sense. I always just took it for granted that are periods of success what kept us going.
Yes, it seems like they’ve gotten rid of a large portion of these leeches, and hopefully an hour. There is some sensible adults in the room with some business acumen and rugby understanding.
      Cheers for watching 👍🏼

As an Englishman I think Gatland is the right guy to start the rebuild as he understands Welsh people and Welsh rugby. Things never as bad as it seems and your never as good as people tell you. Lack of big guys and power will be the biggest problem going forward but you still have very good players. Josh Adam’s is a great player and I’m sure he’s not shot as one pundit has described him . Just had some poor games in a losing team . It’s in the DNA of Welsh players to chuck the ball about better than most , so keep doing that as you were outplaying the french till the big boys came on and changed the game . Only the french have that power so keep your identity. Looking forward to you handing over the wooden spoon next year to Scotland . Gatland will have you winning some games very soon , as long as it’s not against us.

Always great to get an outsiders perspective mate. I do agree that Gatland is the best man to take us forward, and I think given enough time these players can develop into a quality outfit. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take too long.😬😬😬😂😂😂

Hi Christian, there is some good and up and coming player I do like Cameron Winnett and Alex Mann I think we need to look out for. As a team we not gelled together and a lack of communication in this new squad but we will get there it will take a year or two,. Like I said before it's all down to money the less you put in the less comes out and it shows and what is bad for Welsh rugby is players wages cut no contracts so the hart is not in the game players leave most have retired. We need more money like I said before the WRU in 2019 had £23M where has it gone. back to the 6N we should have won the Scotland and England games we were bullied by France in the last 20-15 mins and we should have beaten Italy. As always good to hear your input ,catch you soon Take care mate

The future is bright IMO. I was at Principality for France and Italy. I enjoyed both games v France we played well for the 60 minutes. Last 20....
For Italy for the first 60 were absolutely bruta. Last 15 great. But.... you don't win games in 15 minutes.
Big shout to GEORGE NORTH. YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND IM SAD TO SEE YOU GO MATE BUT THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES

We were struggling at the scrum, but Gatland didn’t bring in Nicky Smith when he was fit. He could have brought in Sam Wainwright as well. We also kicked at the posts just once in the whole tournment, in the French game, and in the Italy game Costelow missed touch three times. We lost one game by 1 point, another by 2 points and a third by 3 points and yet any one successful kick could have changed the result in those games. He kept picking Adams when it was obvious that he was out of sorts. He was probably our worst player.

Hi, awesome content - an idea for a video that I'd love and I think a lot people would, perhaps shed some light on the positive reinforcements and the up and comers around the fringes at the moment who are perhaps coming through at the younger ranks , or even players who were unavailable for this tournament whether that be injury or they declared themself unavailable, even perhaps players who have dropped off and where they are and how they are doing now but you could see coming back into the fold? I know some have said you've been negative but I don't think so, but a positive video looking forward on this concept would be cool...
We all are aware of the bigger misses this tournament (Morgan, Dewi, L.Williams etc.) and the unfortunate loss of LRZ, but what about a deeper dive into what you think of the likes of Plumtree, tuipulotu, Morgan, what Tshiunza has to offer going forward, even Moriarty has been away for a while after making himself unavailable - and what alternates do we have in positions where we really need to strengthen like the front row and the 10 especially in the lower age ranks... I've seen some in the profile series you've done as shorts on here, but a longer form video maybe with a top 10 of what we could have going forward would be really cool.
I remember reading there's a few young fullbacks at the academy and breaking into the regions 15s, could there be fullbacks who you could see playing 10? The return of ansombe? Idk im just waffling now!

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  2 місяці тому +1

Well thanks Elliot, appreciate the comment and the idea. It’s definitely something I’ll look into over the coming months and see who I can get together. Currently doing some research on a different type of video ATM but I do really like your idea so thank you
I don’t really think there’s any full backs who would slot into 10 any time soon, but I definitely believe bringing back Anscombe would be the best option for the short term.
      Cheers again mate 👍🏼

As an irish fan i think Wales have very good 2nd row and excellent back row options as well great speed and skill in the back 3. The biggest issues facing Wales from my perspective is front row and 10. I know u were missing ur starting hooker but the props and 10 options are standard urc level, i dont think they are heineken cup let alone international level. I think u scrap the 25 cap rule and play Anscombe as well as hawkins which will solve half the issues. Solving the lack of depth will be a slow burn, its taken us in ireland years and we still have gaps so its no easy fix

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  2 місяці тому

I agree about the back row. We have some real top quality guys to come back in too so that’s positive.
I totally agree with your point about Anscombe and Hawkins. That would fix so much of the issues. Defo need 2 new props though like you said. Not sure how there going to address that as the pickings are slim currently 😬

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast For me the italy game we looked at our worst so if anything weve regressed at the tournament has gone one.
I feel as though a load of untested players have been thrown in at the deep end with the hope that they "may" come good. No doubt Gatland is trying to work with what hes got and take the pressure of the squad but i cant say im convinced or have great faith.

    • @DisAstra-qx9gq

@@levigriffiths8213gats has never built a team before. Hes always had a good foundation to work from. Ireland, wasps, Wales and even the chiefs all had a decent core when gatland 1st took charge n he just evolved what was already in place.
This is his 1st job where he's has to build a team from the ground up. Has had a few injuries to deal but imo the issue lies with club rugby and the regions not developing quality players.
P.s his chiefs side lost every game they played

Hi Christian ,1st up we could have won 3 or 4 of those games 🙁, I couldn’t agree more the biggest problem is down to money ,l believe if the region’s got a few million more of the back of the national team, tickets could be a lot cheaper and bums would be on seats, and players wages would be more responsibility ,Cmon 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍🏻

Some interesting stats there, in particular Reffell - what a player - and penalty kicks: we lost 3 games by 3 points or less …
And the money: wtf, where has it all been going? Time for drastic changes at the top, restructuring, academies, taking a leaf out of the Irish or NZ playbook.

I think this team has got a higher ceiling than the teams they played, due to how young they are, Gatland had a free go this year to see what depth we have, we could have played Smith, And Francis in the front row and gone for Lydiate and some old players, but we now have a team that's been blooded, Gatland before the world cup played South Africa, he put in the youth to give them a taste of top class rugby, I believe he's fast tracking this Welsh team over the next 3 years, that's why he was phasing out North and Rowlands, it's a blueprint, Domechowski, Assaratti, jac Morgan, Lake, Winnett, Daf Jenkins, Mann, Roberts are the foundations, look at it as a jigsaw, there are still players to look at, Ratti, Morse, Morgan Morris, max lewellyn, we have pushed England, Scotland, and been competitive with France and Ireland, there is plenty of growth and improvement in this young team, next year will be different after Gatland gets the full jigsaw completed😅 let's be more upbeat the green shoots are coming up.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast

I was trying my best to be upbeat, and I thought I was😬 I’m not sure about the higher ceiling than other teams they’ve played. I still don’t think we’ll be competing with Ireland for a few years, but I do agree the Gartland needs time and there is promise for the future

I'll take 1 win in the summer and not to get the wooden spoon in the next six nations. If we keep losing there might no coming back from a losing culture in the Wales squad.

Think the one thing that stood out there as our pack is seriously under powdered, as good as Tommy Ref is Jac Morgan has to return along with Talupe with Wainright to 6 Rowlands at lock with Daf, the front row is a problem area, we need the return of Dewi Will help but loose head and tight are up for grabs.
in the backs we need to mould a new center partnership Grady at twelve with Joe at 13, the other problem area is 10 and 14, I really don't think Costelow is ready for international rugby so I would bring back Anscombe with Lloyd as his understudy, we need a replacement for Adam's who is shot, Cam is fine at fullback but needs to attack space
more there was a huge gap in the French game big enough for a bus yet he choose to pass, chance gone, Rio is fine but needs some work on defence. 11:24
