Turn your felt fabric into your own handmade journal with this diy journal making
tutorial. You can use your artful felt fabric, the mosaic felt fabric, or any felt fabric
you desire! Rather than make a felt journal cover, we thought it would be great fun
to make our journal pages, and we will share ideas on making pages as well. Of
course you could use your felt fabric for junk journals or bullet journals, but today we
are just going to show some fun ways to make your pages along with very simple
bindings. Making journals is great fun and this is yet another DIY project for your
gorgeous handmade felt fabrics. Giving these as gifts are dreamy because each will
be truly one of a kind.
The fabrics we are using have tutorials for making them, see below under our felting
tutorials videos referenced.
All of the supplies for making your DIY journals can be things found around the
house, swapped with friends and family, sourced at the thrift store, or readily
available online. We will share some links below for the supplies and fun tools used
in today’s journal making diy tutorial from your handmade felt fabric.

Thanks for watching! Everytime Marie says "register"..she means "signature"...she had washitapebrain😜 Please let us know your fave take away, your journal idea, OR what you want to see next! 😘😘😘
hee hee! so inspirational Marie. Could we make pens next to tuck in the journal?
I am feeling more confident wet felting now. Thank you for your weekly wooly Wednesdays. Have you ever done a wet felting tutorial on making hats? It would be fun to add our prefects to a design. Please show us how.
@@karenwhaley4549 we have an AWESOME wet felting a hat workshop coming online in our new school ...which should launch late summer, early fall. It is by Dawn Edwards, who is very well known for making very fine hats. It is beginner friendly, thorough, and makes 2 hats plus embellishment. Make sure to join our mailing list at www.livingfelt.com and join our fb group to get notified of the school launch :)
@@karenwhaley4549 You could! Pens were one of the very first "things" I felted over.
Thats ok.Marie. i call it a journal too! Lol
Love the beach colors!
I love that it can be any size....so no worries about ypur felt squares....
I look forward to all Wooly Wednesday every week! Thank you Maria and Fairies!!!
These silky papers have made this journal so beautiful!!
Thank you, Melody!
Didn’t get to watch live today, so glad I got to watch it tonight. Now I know what to do with my fabric. Thank You so much. Love the idea
I love the colours in this colour way!
Loved this series of tutorials, want to do more with pre-felts & the silky papers, and can't wait to start working on a journal. I had a heck of a time getting my 30% shrinkage on my length, but for a journal it will work. Thanks LF
This project combines two of my loves - paper craft and felting! So happy :)
I missed the live show but I am so grateful it is always available to watch. I love your instructions, Thank you.
I've just gone back and watched from the pre felt! Thankyou so much for these videos they're awesome!
Our pleasure, Sarah! So glad you found them helpful :)
I love the intro information thanks. Sending love to you all from Australia ❤️😘
Re watching because my internet kept going on and off..now it's making sense..yes! Another great tutorial
Hello beautiful Marie and those beautiful Faries!
I finally was able to binge, catch up with all of the amazing videos of the last few weeks. My mind is spinning! I am thinking of Christmas presents for my daughters to add memories of my 8 grandchildren as well for my sisters to add memories of our dear mother we lost last week. Your message to be kind to yourself really resonated with me today. Thank you for the joy of learning you share with all of us.
Rhonda Berman
Thank you, Rhonda. We are sending lots and lots of love and comfort your way.
Thank you, that means so much to me.
What a lovely idea!! Can't wait to put mine together. Thank you!
This would be so cute for a preteen just getting started with a journal! Cute!
This tutorial series has been really interesting. The one on how to make silk paper caught my attention and I've been following since
What a cute idea! Never would have thought to bind the pages so simply. I love it!
I haven’t made my mosaic fabric yet, but had an idea this morning to make a little journal of linen swatches (new obsession) to bring on a trip tomorrow.... I had a piece of artful felt from a few months ago done with the Emerald Forest pack. I used some fabric stiffener on it to make it a little more durable and then followed the rest of your directions. It looks great! Thank you so much for posting yet another amazing idea. ❤️
We hope to see it in the group...sounds awesome! Enjoy your trip :)
Hi from Mary in San Diego California!
Hi from Mandurah in Western Australia on the catch up. I can't wait to try this!
This was quite informative. Will be having a go as I like the texture etc of the felt.
Love your blues! I have been making neck warmers with your wonderful colors.
Thank you for sharing your talents with us. I love making journals and i am so going to have to try this. When you started this series i totally thought journal cover and then you did. I love how you walk through every step. Again thank you.
Thanks for the great info on making silk papers, always learn something new!
Another great tutorial Marie, I’ve really enjoyed the last weeks culminating in tonight’s journal making. A fun project from start to finish learning lots of new techniques. I’m planning adding beadwork to the outside of my journal cover and now know what a “signature” is, and it’s not me signing my name.
We look forward to seeing it!
I missed this WW while on vacation in Montana so I will watch today and make a journal!
This was a great tutorial, thank you so much. :) I had so many ideas from all the different things we did from week 1 to week 4 but still didn't guess what the finished result was going to be. My Mum is a card maker so this is going to be a lot of fun. :)
I didn't get to join live today but this was great to watch! I am excited to make one for my nieces! I need to buy so many more supplies too! I learn something every week! Thank you so much! This week I learned about washi tape for the first time. I have seen it many times but had no idea what it was used for. Now I am mad I don't have a supply on hand!!
😅 washi tape...its so fun!
@@LivingFelt This was such a fun project to watch! If I wasn't reorganizing and cleaning my area I would have mine done and posted already. Hope to do it soon! Thanks again! You are all awesome!!!
Love this and I can't wait to try it. The pen idea is a great idea also.
Love this idea! I think I'll make a small journal cover with my leftover "artful fabric"! Do you think it would be okay to do a zigzag stitch in a contrasting color around the outer edge?
Oh yes, zigzag stitch over edge works great :)
great idea, thanks a lot:)))))
How fun. I think I would use this for my favorite poetry: The Illiterate by William Meredith for example. I wanted to ask, can you use paverpol, fabric stiffener and/or starch to reinforce the felt? As for next week, how about a wetfelted scene using prefelt cutouts! We have done abstract, I would love to do a concrete wetfelting next! I just did an ibis and am working on dolphins using prefelt. I would love Marie to show her methods on doing this!!
How about adding a fabric pocket or two to the inside of the journal to add small pieces of paper, stickers or writing instruments.
I will try. Great video.
Yes! Marie is adding inside reinforcement to hers, pockets and hand stitching the cover. She will share in the fb group :)
That looks like great fun and also like very nice presents
We so agree!
Hi Marie When you steam the felt what setting do you have the iron on please? I live in NZ so I always miss your live show but I always catch up the next day love your woolly Wednesday’s 🥀 Thank you 😊
Thank you, Susan. I use the silk setting :)
Was wondering if you have suggestion on if I embroidery on top of the covers. What options to hide the stitches on the inside cover? Thank you Fun project.
Hi Kevin, Marie here...I have added embrodery to mine and will sew an inside fabric...you could also yse commercial felt or even cardstock.
What a great idea! I think these journals will make thoughtful gifts...I caught the end of the live broadcast and noticed that the supplies and where to get them was listed below but do not see the list now. How do I see that list again?
Hi Susan, on a phone. See the DOWN ARROW to the right of the video title. Otherwise, click the words SHOW MORE beneath the first few sentences of the description.
Thinking about putting card stock inside of the felt covers( maybe glue a cute saying on it....what glue would you recommend to glue card stock to the felt?
We have successfully glued paper and felt with Aileen's Tacky Glue.yiu might test your felt, a hot glue gun is also an option.
Can you use wool felt as a base? It might be easier for a project for my grandchildren starting with felt.
Muchas gracias! :)
Is there a link for the elastic cord?
We will check and add it if not :)
👍👏👏👏🌼🌼❤️🌺
Could you cut prefelts on prefelt to make one?
, if you mean can you cut commercial felt and layer them on other commercial prefelt or even on handmade prefelt, the answer is yes. In fact we used commercial prefelt and felted them together as part of our handmade prefelt. See the turquoise and lime green strips in this mosaic fabric. ALSO SEE the mosaic felt fabric video, and handmade prefekt video.
I missed the first half, I’m just catching up. Thanks
