Building a spare parts Jib Crane/Gantry for my garage

- I needed a way to hold my 77 CJ7 jeep tub up and able to adjust while putting it back on the frame and though I had an engine crane, it just wasn't what I needed. I've got a few more projects coming so I hunted around a little and found the parts needed to make a small Jib crane that anyone could build in their own garage with mostly basic parts and tools.

Good job man
For use every now and then it works great and would hold plenty. Don’t listen to these armchair engineers. As long as you keep an eye on it and use caution you will be fine.
on my 3rd jeep with it, it's been working great so far! thanks!
nice build! do you have link to the swivel hinge used? You gave some good ideas for my custom location for mine.
Thanks! No link sorry.. don't remember where I got it but look up long leaf hinge on amazon and you should find it, i found a couple like it. Good luck!
Thank you for replying so fast
I’d test it out really well before getting in a compromising predicament. As an engineer I would be surprised if that cable holds up long, given the short length and shallow angle. Nice workmanship but I’d use extreme caution there.
Thanks! It's definitely been tested. I added a second leg on the outside that's removable and it's been working great 👍
Good
just a thought. What if ???, you leave your hoist motor over at the wall and run to a pully at your lift point to save weight on your beam. but I love your build and I will be building mine very soon thank you great vid.
Great idea! I actually completed the second leg that goes on the other end of the beam and I made it removable. With it on my capacity is much higher and works fantastic for engines and body's.
That would be good for a fixed lift point, but the whole idea with this is being able to not only lift a load but also move it side to side in the garage while suspended?
Where you get the motorized trolly from
That part wasn't spare parts, I admit..lol. I got that on amazon. it's by a company called Five Oceans and was the only one that had a combo hoist and trolley that just bolted right together. it works very well. Cheers!
What hoist did you use?

Music too loud pls; thx for the vid!
Are those gas cans sitting on the floor next to where you are welding?
lol, yes but very empty and for a long time.. lol no risk there. Good eye though ;)
I don’t know, that looks kind of sketchy to me
It's been one of the best additions to the garage so far.. works fantastic. I added the leg on the other side that I mentioned in the video and it makes it into a gantry. For the light loads I lift it's fantastic!
You make me nervous.
Seems sketchy to me .
so far, working like a charm!
