Why is it so easy to judge parents in public?

I want to live in a world where parents are supported instead of judged. Raising humans is hard work and deserves to be respected and done well.

Yes to everything you just said. I remember being criticised loudly in a store once when my son was three. He had jet lag, was staying in a home he was unfamiliar with, eating food and being surrounded by people he was unfamiliar with and generally overwhelmed by the full on stimulation of the American shopping experience. All I wanted was to get what I needed and get out of the store. Having another woman loudly tell me what a terrible parent I was made me feel humiliated. It is one of my worst memories of those early years. She was just so sure she knew everything about us from the snapshot she saw. She didn’t see all of the above, or his sensory issues, or my husbands ongoing cancer treatment - only her own arrogant conclusion that she was in a superior position to judge.
Not that I’m still angry or anything ;-)

    Really appreciate this!
Also have a follow up question (for Angela or any other parents here in the comments): What kind of support do you think would have been helpful to you in such situations?
Are there any sort of habits that people here could practice to support the parents in their communities in public spaces?
I often find myself longing to support parents and children who are in pain, but a wall of decorum and ignorance stand in my way.
There is probably plenty of general communication homework that I could do to address this ignorance, but this video seemed like an opportunity to plug into some of the wisdom available in the community around this channel.
    Thanks!

This is a great question! I have the same wish to help but don't really know how.
