  • A blonde mulleted Forbes tradie who captured the hearts of the nation on his marathon run across Australia yesterday reached the finish line at North Bondi after 46 gruelling days on the road.
Leaving Perth’s Cottesloe Beach on September 1st, 23-year-old Nedd Brockmann pledged to run 3,800 kilometres to raise money for the homelessness charity Mobilise.
At about 5.30pm, the former Kinross Wolaroi School student crossed the finish line by running through a ribbon outside North Bondi SLSC where thousands of people, including family and close friends, congratulated him on the epic feat.
He has raised more than $1.5 million for homelessness, with the goal of increasing awareness and providing frontline care.
Mr Brockmann addressed the flock of supporters before doing a celebratory shoey.
“I am absolutely blown away,” he said. “It has taken a lot and a lot to get through here. I don’t think I can explain the depths I’ve had to go to. To have all this support is absolutely mind-blowing. I am speechless. Thank you guys. Amazing.”
His mother Kylie was at the finish line and said she was in awe of her son.
“I’m in awe just like everybody else because I don’t understand it and I’m always just sort of going I don’t know how you do it,” she told 7NEWS.
Mr Brockmann isn’t new to running long distances, having taken up the discipline after retiring from football due a shoulder injury. He previously ran 50 marathons in 50 days to raise $95,000 for Red Cross Australia.
During his latest mammoth challenge the sparkie ran an average 100 kilometres a day through the month-and-a-half journey.
He endured a string of injuries along the way including severe tenosynovitis in his shins, blisters and maggots growing in his toes.
When asked why he was so inspired, Mr Brockmann said he had been hit by the impact of homelessness in Sydney after he moved from country NSW.
“I just saw a lot of people living on the street when I was going to TAFE and I wanted to help, but I didn’t know how,” Mr Brockmann said before launching from Cottesloe in Perth.
“I remember calling my mum and she just said ‘Nedd, they’re just people like you and me’ and that’s always sat with me.
“And as soon as I got to know some of them I realised they all have a story to tell - so I thought these guys could really do with a million bucks.”
