Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
This channel follows the adventures of chatelaine Stephanie in her French 16th century home, the Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
We share our life in this ancient chateau in the heart of the French countryside, and show you the diy, renovations, crafts, cooking and gardening that are needed to bring a home like this to life!
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. Stephanie, I really hope you consider turning the restoration of the chapel once completed into a documentary style longer video using all of your fantastic interviews. It would be a great way to share your stunning chapel with a wider audience. Your chapel is a work of art and thank you for sharing video of the hard work to restore it.
Definitely a good idea!!
I feel like it might even be worth it to have it professionally edited.
I'm thinking that she should probably also get Michael in there to get some very detailed shots from different angles and put it together in a book considering the historical significance of this particular chapel.
@@DevonaRavenholdThat is a very good idea!
Good idea!
Rumor has it that Prague is well known for its very special breed of canines. It would be so heartwarming to hear the soft patter of a sweet little ratter once again at Lalande.
Good news😊
Adopt don't buy
Have never met anyone at the chateau, but my goodness, I got soooo teary eyed with expectation when she said Prague 🙏🐶
or a stone for the ring, Moldavite or Czech Garnet?
@@mikesmith9985
Ombeline has to be the worlds most beautiful gardener
You said “we are going to Prague” and I burst into tears! I don’t do that very often. Keeping my fingers crossed for wonderful things for you.
Yes, I think many of us are on the same wave length here.
same.
Fingers crossed 😘
Yes, we kinda know... Fingers cross.😊
Oh wait, are they getting a new dog?
I really like how Aumary took the walls down to the studs and insulated before the walls were done. It will last forever! He really knows what he is doing! Doing it right from the start!😊
I hope it's a little Sir Galahad 😉 ,do have a safe trip to and from.
Happiest of birthdays to you, Stephanie!
Perhaps instead of wall-to-wall carpet, you might consider area rugs. And a runner for the hallway. They are easier to keep clean, and still afford some insulation and noise dampening. Just a thought. Love your blog, and you (all).
And easier to change when you get tired of the color or style. 😊
If you put a rug underlay underneath it gives extra protection and stops the wood slipping.
I agree 100%
Or you can use wall to wall carpeting and have the edges sealed so you get full coverage and thickness and can still pull it out at any time without dealing with all the glue and nails!
I agree, loose rugs much better than built in Carpet. Carpet is uniformed etc. But Rather do wood floors. Please Please Please Stephanie. After a few years the carpets will looks warn, stained and it is a beast to keep clean. Then replacements will cost to much than rather loose rugs that you can exchange seasonally even. In winter thicker rugs and different styling for warmth and in summer a more thinner rug you can throw in the washing machine still. MaCenna XO on her channel for her kitchen Renovation bought a rug for under her dining table made from a light material but lays on top of a spongy foam layer that is amazing. 🙏 Love all the activities at Le Lande and updates. ❤
Oh, I hope it’s a little Guinevere or Gallahad but even if it’s not whatever the reason, you look happy and excited and I hope everything goes well for you both and this trip brings a little sunshine and healing to your hearts ❤
Arthur or Merlin would be cute too 😊
I feel the same way. Actually I would love to see 2 pups; they can keep each other company. Then Stephanie and Phillip get one each to snuggle with.
Just a tip for the chicken coupe, make sure you paint the inside with lime as chickens can pick up a disease from mites in the walls
Absolutely..my mother used to raise hundreds of chickens free range, obviously they went into their block work houses at night..always lime walls inside and out to keep mites away..she used to relime twice a year....cant wait to see les poules
Yes, they've already discussed washing the walls with lime. if I recall not too long ago. They spoke of it.
A new puppy for your birthday? That would be so lovely and healing. Once you've had the love of and for a pet, it's so hard to live without one.
I know I feel in love with Lancelot and I miss seeing him. He was such a special little guy. I really hope it's a puppy.
It gave me goosebumps when she said they were going for just one day. Fingers crossed
It truly must be a good fit though!!
Oh I do hope so. 🙏💚🙏
Stephanie, use washable runners. There are many styles to choose from. They can insulate hallways and protect floors.
I wouldn’t do carpet in the hallway. But perhaps a carpet runner that can easily be cleaned and deadens the footsteps
Stephanie, I certainly hope that you are planning on having some sort of commemoration/ blessing for the official opening of your chapel. You may even want to invite French dignitaries!
And the living descendants of the Chateau's previous family❤
I liked it when Stephanie and Marie would have a day out together and explore and have lunch.
Nick's Marie? What a lovely lady. I wish we saw more of her. I hoped they were coming for all of August. 🙁😔
@@cindygarrison6338 No the Marie that is cooking this summer. She did flowers arranging in the past.
Literally the room cheered when you shared your hint! 🎉
The Gazebo flowers and plants are spectacular. Davey is a master. From the time I first started watching your show till now...... The transformation of the walled garden is nothing short of amazing. It's been a few years now. 😢
Stunning..... Stunning...
So pleased to hear the Mummy had a positive visit with her eye consultant..and they now can come back...❤
So happy to see Dave involved and seem a little more relaxed in front of the camera . Oh I hope I am right with my guess !!! If I am its what we did too after two weeks as we couldnt bear the emptiness
Prague! Perhaps a puppy? Whatever the reason, wish you a wonderful trip. Very relieved by the good news from Isabelle's eye doctor. BTW - loved this video with all the low-key everyday happenings around the chateau - the new Chicken House, the gardens, the work being done on the kitchen hallway, the attic bedroom, all of it, topped off with the game and dinner. Loved seeing Dave with all of you around the table. Thank you to all.
I agree! Thank you Stephanie for making this video!
Dave has certainly gained in personality from the shy quiet man who did the dishes to the all-around multi assistant! Hoorah!
@@bossyjoyce3711 Been a fan of Dave's ever since he, Phillip, Phillip's lovely friend, and Steph sang in the Chapel one Christmas. Dave can sing! All four of their voices were beautiful. Have to watch out for the quiet ones. They can be a concucopia of talents, as we've all been discovering. :)
Glad mommy's eye appt went well.
'Gaura' is the name of that pink and white flower. I love it too!
So do I, I recently planted a pink one.
It self seeds madly! 😁❤️
a helpful hint for basil--don't plant just one or a few plants. They actually love being crowded with each other. I usually just carpet bomb seed in a huge pot or bed in-ground. I'm in the midwest where we get humid heat. If your heat is too dry, dedicate some greenhouse space and scatter a whole packet densely in one of those raised beds.
Ombeline, such a beauty and hard worker also ❤
Nice to see everyone having a friendly game in the courtyard and even Dave participating. How wonderful. You all work hard. Oh and I do love the bar idea too.
Tears for Prague. But a great decision. It won’t fill that particular hole in your heart but will fill your arms (& ease the heart pain) ❤
The Chapel consists of many works of art. They are everywhere one looks, and they are all bring brought back to a new life by some very skilled and talented artists. One day, all of the restoration will be completed, and I am just as anxious as everyone else to see it all done.
So fun that you share all the amazing discoveries of the chapel with us- thank you a million times for sharing your home and life with all of us- Best Wishes !!!
I guess it involves a Little four legged creature with beautiful large ears?!💖🥰
I was thinking the same thing.
Hope they call him Galahad
I love the walled garden and the chicken house. Its nice knowing they will be safe. And all the produce looks amazing. There is nothing like fresh vegetable, fruit and salad.
Who bets the next couple of videos will have the largest viewership ever? So excited!
If no one has mentioned this...pears dont ripen on the tree they remain hard. Pick what you need on an ongoing basis and ripen indoors. That's what Monty Don says anyway 😉
Maybe different varieties ripen differently, but our old Bartlett and our young red Bartlett both drop ripe pears if we don't keep them picked. (And why do they produce well only on alternate years?)
Amaury is right. Carpet harbours so many bacteria and dirt. Cannot think of anything worse than staying in a hotel with carpet. Listen to your cousin!!
I agree that carpets aren’t suitable for a country dwelling because you bring a lot of dirt under your shoes.
Please no carpet in the bathroom! Heated tile with a nice rug. Carpet is gross in a bathroom
A carpet runner in the corridor would be great!
Agree. But also there is the point about noise along the hallway... perhaps some plain hall runners? Can then do the periodic carpet bashing out in the sunshine!
Would a wood-look vinyl plank with a sound barrier underlayment be an option? I would say definitely if this was a regular house, but with this being a historic home, not sure if it's the best choice.
Try to limit the apples or serve them without the seeds to the chickens. When digested the seeds contain amygdalin and when digested release a form of cyanide which can be harmful in large quantities.
The chicken house looks very good, well done so far :)
True, they should be cored (also the green seed husk contains amygdalin). Often apples are listed as harmful to dogs, but it's only the core, the apple itself is good for digestion and vitamins, and good for cronchy bites once they're cored! 😊
Your blackberries appear to have "Leaf Scorch" from too much midday sun. Look for leaves with brown, crispy patches. Consider placing a shade cloth as a sunscreen to protect your blackberries from the harsh midday sun. ❤️🙏
Not sure what day your birthday is, Stephanie, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm so happy you were born.
I think its the 18th
its the 18th
My goodness, Marie is in her element. She looks so beautiful! Everything about says confidence.
marie you look so pretty in that dress and that color - nice to see you looking happy and content!
What a lovely day! Chateau improvements, chapel restoration, a beautiful garden, a bit of sports, good food, and company followed by a gorgeous sunset!❤😊
I too am concerned about the plan for the hall being renovated. There will be a daily concern about carrying things down it and plates will always be a worry about hitting, no matter how high they are installed or how firmly they are attached. What I would love are maps of the area, so guests can see where they are in the countryside and what there is to explore when they are left to their own devices.
The Chapel is so so beautiful! The amount of detail and thought that went into making this Chapel as beautiful and unique as it is, is truly incredible. Never seen anything like it before and it was a wonderful surprise to learn that they were this creative long long time ago.
we think, we are the best, but long ago, they were better...
high tech and AI are very overestimated!
Happy birthday Stephanie!
So happy to see all the renovations happening! Great job!
I can’t wait to see you return from Prague! Bittersweet, but so exciting! 🤞🤞❤❤
Happy birthday Stephanie, I hope it as always filled with love, laughter, hope and joy. Have a safe trip and a fruitful journey ❤️ lots of love to both you and Philip.
Davey glad your a respectful part of the chateau❤
When someone films Stephanie instead of her being behind the camera, i love it. Wish she had a cameraman/lady at all times
In America we have protected historic places and they must have something similar in France. This chapel deserves to be recognized and protected. It is a stunning gem.
When it's done, I'd be surprized if they didn't get official recognition from the council and county, and a definate place in the guidebooks over things worth seeing in the area. They'll have to have a least one day a week for visitors from far and wide who will want to behold this unique chapel! I expect requests for weddings and christenings will pour in from everywhere once the greater public sees photos of it.
It's one of a kind!
@@gnarbeljo8980 Their chapel is far from being unique in France and in their region.
@@YM-rt1jy after the restoration I'd think it is.
I’m guessing it’s Prague for another pup❤. So strange as I never realised until his passing how invested I was in little Lancelot and when you mentioned that you were going to Prague I literally felt so heavy hearted as I, amongst many, miss that little cutie and his very big presence on your vlog. But as sad as I feel, I know that a new pup will bring you much happiness - not to replace Lancelot as you cannot replace any animal - but it will fill a big hole in your lives. And I’m sure that tiny boy Lancelot would only wish you both more joy from another animal.
Pears actually ripen better once picked. So may be worth laying some out on newspaper in a cool room.
Another wonderful vlog, I agree that the hallway should not have carpet, a little noise on a wooden floor is just fine! Carpets harbour lots of nasty stuff! Love your variety in all your vlogs!
I BET they are going to Prague to fetch a doggie!!
Does anyone out there agree?
Remember airflow / vents (drill holes if no air blocks) thru the chicken house. Otherwise you'll get lots of mites and unhappy chooks etc.
Manure, happy garden :)
Stephanie, I hope you do an in-depth photoshoot of the finished chapel when completed because that artwork/columns/etc. is STUNNING. Just beautiful.
Definitely a Chookingham Palace in the making! The chapel is an absolute work of art!
I love Chookingham. Might confuse many around the world but meh. Chooks should live in a Chookingham Palace 🤣❤
Or a Cluckingham Palace!
@@Lea-bw9wj I wasn’t thinking, forgetting “chooks” is only an Australian name for chickens!
@@rozannaherring1578 Nah to normal and expected. Chookingham is better because they are chooks. Totally makes sense to an Aussie. Everyone else will just have to learn the lingo 🤣
So I'm thinking puppy too. So happy for you all and will be sending good vibes your way. Gosh, now I cant wait till your next video 😍.
BlackBerry wine from all the surplus of blackberries? Yummy for Christmas or gifts.
Or cordial!!
@@DawnYockey YES!!!
Oh so exciting to hear you guys are going to Prague! I hope you enjoyed your trip here, it has been so hot here in these past few days
Looking forward to the next video!
Regarding the chicken house, is there ventilation otherwise it will be an oven in the summer?
Happy Birthday! Really appreciate your authenticity and sharing bits and pieces of your life, family and friends at the chateau 😊
Okay can I kindly request more competitions at Lalande? We call that bocce ball, but that was great to watch! Amaury and Nati are obviously VERY competitive people! (What a match!) Love it!
Did your Mother have a cataract operation in the UK? As don't understand why she would need to go to the UK for eye treatment when she is resident in either South Africa or France?
My guess for Prague is your wedding dress? ❤. Or for a second Sir Lancelot / Galahad
Smiling ear to ear almost entire episode. I can say as many of us who watch these, the vlogs have that “mysterious” affect on one’s face😂. It was really wonderful to see everyone and most lovely smiles upon everyone’s faces and yours Stephanie!! Safe travel! Love to you all❤
Is Chris related to Kirsty? They have a family resemblance.
Here’s hoping there is another 🐶 waiting for you in Prague. Life is never the same without a dog to love and cherish.
I've had bathrooms with the original timber floor boards (120 years old house) for 45 years and no problems. Just need to be sensible. I also love the look.
Absolutely love the look of it already 🎉
How about a picture of amerie and his brother, would love to see them both
Amaury's younger brother was at Isabelle's wedding with a partner and four children. There was one photo. When we toured the UK house last Christmas of Stephanie's aunt and uncle, they showed a photo of the family with Amaury as a teenager. Then they sold the house. 😢
Cork for the hallway! Beautiful designs available now, thermal, takes high traffic, easy on the feet and long lasting. The insulation is amazing.
And it does not mold.
What a great idea.
The sunset at the end is so gorgeous! Take a screenshot just as it comes into the frame by 1. Moving your mouse cursor over to the edge of the screen when Stephanie is talking to them about the Indian food at dinner, it gives the cursor time to dissappear. As soon as it appears, on the left corner of the keyboard, click Shift, Windows key the letter s. Give it a sec and a program should pop up at the top, click the rectangle with a frame around it. That should take you to a place to save it to your computer so you can make it a Background to your desktop.
I can't wait to see what awaits you both in Prague! You deserve the very best. Loving the garden produce and the chapel renovations, such a fantastic achievement. Sending best wishes from Greater Manchester UK
Thanks Stephanie! 🏰
Amaury is correct… no carpet. 👍🏾
🕳️🎾 fun relaxing time with the team.
Don't put any paneling at the bottom of the stair - it will restrict the ability to maneuver furniture around to bring upstairs, etc.
Those are the narrow back stairs. Furniture can go up the main marble stairs. The main stairs go up two levels also.
What an absolutely wonderful evening sky, a masterpiece painted by the hand of God, blessings to all !

You have some of the most gorgeous sunset views at Lalande!
I am so jealous of the wonderful blackberries! I hope you are going to make blackberry syrup! Such a wonderful treat in the winter! Also, I just wanted to mention that pears are picked before the are ripe. If they separate easily from the stem, they are ready for picking.
Happy Birthday dear Stephanie. The many dreams you dreamed are coming true every day in your beautiful chateau. Always filled with life, love and laughter. I hope what ever it is you are going to Prague for your birthday perhaps will bring you great joy 😉🐶.
Could it be the patter of four little legs and two large brown eyes staring lovingly, two large ears pointing upward and a tail, along with a little bottom shaking and moving side to side??? And could he be given the name of Sir Lancelot's son....GALAHAD???? Em?...🤔 yes that could be why a visit to Prague is necessary, especially as it's Stephanie's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY 'Lady Stephanie' many more is wished also!
Marie is just a darling❤🇿🇦
How nice to see you all playing a game.
Trip tomorrow for a Prague Ratter ? When you are ready. Much Love to my La Lande Family...Looking forward to seeing and hearing Jerry!

I’m sure I remember seeing- years ago in a vlog- that you had some faux wisteria… you could use it on the chicken coop 😳🤣❤️
Koala hugs to you all 🇦🇺❤️🐨
I awaken to the chateau diaries every daybreak on my television and am in absolute awe of chateau life. You're so elegant, your cousin Amaury is the epitome. The ever wonderful Philip and friends Michael Potts and Marie, she's so lovely. You keep us going. Thank you for spreading joy.
Oh another puppy? How exciting, good for you.🥰🇨🇦
To think what the walled garden looked like when you first started your videos. What a transformation.
The gazebo is a dream!
My POV. From experience… You may think about adding hardware cloth or at least chicken wire even behind those windows. Not sure if you all have raccoons over there but those murderous creatures will go through those plastic windows with no trouble and the carnage will be horrible if they get inside.
Beautiful happy video ❤ I gasped with delight when you shared that you are going to Prague…. It brought tears to my eyes. I can’t wait to see what you may bring back! 👏👏👏👏
Beautiful soft pink and white flower bushes are called a butterfly bush here in South Afric. Get a darker pink colour too. Gorgeous.
I love them! The delicate spray they grow, and the movement!
I am so excited for tomorrow morning!
As soon as you said we are going away for one night only and then to Prague i burst into tears, if i am correct and it is a new furbaby i will be thrilled for you all ❤
Wishing you a happy birthday Stephanie ❤and all the best wishes and love for your birthday 🎉❤
I gasped when you said you were going to Prague!! 🤞🏻 🐶

Ah, thank you so much for sharing your joy with us, it was so nice, like always! 🫶💞🫶
My guess for your trip would be to get a ‘fill your hearts with top-joy again doggy’… 🤷♀️
By the way, when you harvest basil, don’t pick just leafs, pick the crowns. They’ll build side shoots and make for even more harvest. 👌🌱
Pausing mid-video to comment. Please put hardware wire over the windows for further predator proofing. I would personally build a frame that goes on the inside so that there’s the option to have the window open but still be secure.
Ooh l so happy you got another puppy xx love his name xx
Happy birthday Stephanie xx love from Australia
These plain black lines on the bénitiers remember me so much of the work around the lines and the "aplats" in your father's painting, strongly underlying the colours and shapes and giving so much structure and personality to his art. It's like if the chapel and your father's art complement each other 🤗
Wow blackberry haven. I like making a cordial to add to Mocktails or cocktails 🍹
I think you and Philip should have engagement photos taken at the gazebo. The flowers are perfect right now, and it's such a romantic looking spot.
Always look forward to the vids x
