It's really great to see this tradition has been formally integrated into our social and cultural activities. I have always thought of the evolution of stick fighting in two ways.
Firstly as an art form, the movements of the fighter, the songs and drums to create a form of dance with a unique music.
Secondly as authentic stick fighting as the risk of injury, develop an alternative sport where protection is worn such as in fencing, with a points scoring system. This can develop into additional sporting event held outside of carnival. It can promote our unique martial art form.

You are correct that it is both artistic and martial. Protective gear would be good but I feel it would lose some of it's attraction for Trini.

Yes, I like drumming and also the stickmen who are willing to get hit by a very strong stick. I can remember my grandfather used to do stick fighting, and most of the time, he came home with a busted head(those were the days)❤

You truly have to be either brave or foolhardy to enter the gayelle.

Super thumbs UP!! Great narration for official competition. Could easily be rebranded as a tourist promo sent to different countries tourism depts .with a tag line such as Visit Traditional Trini Carnival..
AND ...With a NEW SEE MORE Button...you could add NEW narration on the different dance steps, and patois interpretation of the drumming and voices....will give even more info about Trini culture..USING THE SAME VIDEO FOOTAGE.

Could not agree more and we have so many unique aspects in the Caribbean that tourists seeking something different would appreciate

Some consider it a martial art and enjoy it.
