    If they only do 15% now then they didnt miss their target by 85% but they missed it by 666%

    • @mmanjin
      @mmanjin 11 днів тому

      @tomh1727 Your calculation of 666% is not correct. There are two ways to measure it, a) percentage point difference, or b) relative percentage difference
      a) percentage point difference subtracts the actual percentage from the target percentage.
      Target = 100%
      Actual =15%
      Miss = 100% - 15% = 85 percentage points (Lars was correct since he was implying PERCENTAGE point difference)
      b) relative percentage difference (what you're referring to) calculates how far off the actual result is from the target, expressed as a percentage of the target.
      The formula is ((Target - Actual) / Actual) × 100
      Target = 100%
      Actual =15%
      Calculation = ((100 - 15) / 15) × 100 = (85 / 15) × 100 = 5.67 × 100 = 567%

    • @tomh1727
      @tomh1727 11 днів тому +2

      @@mmanjin I did something simpler, they are at 15 now but should be at 100 so they would still need to grow 666% from where they are now to hit the goal

    • @mmanjin
      @mmanjin 11 днів тому

      @@tomh1727 The 666% figure is not mathematically correct in this context. Calculating a fraction of something doesn't mean a direct percentage miss. You most likely calculated it as 100/15 = 6.66666... which rounds to 6.7. 6.66 X100 = 666, which you then interpreted as a 666% miss. This calculation compares the target to the achievement, rather than measuring how far the achievement fell short of the target. You are confusing ratios and percentages: The 6.67 figure (or 6.66 in your case) represents a ratio, not a percentage difference. It tells us the target is 6.67 times the achievement, but this isn't the same as the percentage by which they missed the target.
      Just keep it simple and call it an 85% miss, which is the 85% percentage point difference, as I explained in a) above.

    Legacy Auto will not survive the BEV transition because of their debt load. Tesla re-invented the automobile manufacturing process using IDRA technology. It takes VW 30 hours to produce a vehicle that Tesla makes in 10 hours. So Legacy Auto needs to retool their factories and here’s their current debt: 1) BMW $164B, 2) Ford $152B, 3) GM $128B, 4) MB $111B, 5) Toyota $242B and 6) VW $208B. Nissan only has $52 billion in debt but it’s considered junk. On top of all this, Legacy Auto needs to master three additional technologies that Tesla and BYD have: 1) Batteries, 2) Microprocessors and 3) Software. Keep an eye on Xiaomi…

AI "understands" *nothing* , it has zero ability to _reason_ and make connections (inference) that a visual scene might contain potential dangers, it can only blindly (no pun intended) compare against raw training data. A humble dog is light-years beyond Tesla AI in its ability to infer, reason and act. FSD, in mass release, would kill untold people, _rapidly_ , it's really that simple.

    Regarding the unsupported assertion in this video that China mostly copies therefore will always be behind, an analysis published by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) found that China has significant leads in advanced materials and manufacturing, energy, biotechnology, sensors, and certain elements of artificial intelligence (AI), while the United States leads in design and development of advanced microchips, quantum computing, and vaccines. The report notes that these gains have positioned China “to excel not just in current technological development in almost all sectors, but in future technologies that don’t yet exist.” I would add that China is already far ahead in battery design. There is some nuance in the CCP's direction to BEV makers about sending their IP over to other countries. They are focused on India, who they have serious conflicts with, and Turkey, who I am not sure what their relations are like but the country is run by an autocrat. It's not clear that this would be the case in the USMCA zone, as "knock-down" kits wouldn't get IRA incentives. Maybe they don't care, as long as they can sell their cars without tariffs.

    The CCP is smart. They want to force other automakers to make their cars in China so they can compete with China's own brands.
    By telling their automakers not to take their tech out of country the CCP will force the OEMs to come to China. They will do this by continuing to subsidize their internal automakers to export cars to the EU and other countries at such a low cost that the OEMs cannot compete without moving their production to China.
    The real key to China staying on top however is their internal supply chains. These take years to build... years the OEMs don't have before they collapse trying to compete with Chinese made cars. The CCP intends to use humanoid robotic labor in their car factories as soon as they can to further reduce costs to where they can still be competitive given the EU tarrifs being as low as they are.
    The only solution to keep the OEMs alive a little longer is to do what the US did and allocate huge tariffs on imported Chinese cars. However the US OEMs are not taking this as an opportunity to develop their own internal supply chains excluding those controlled by China. They are wasting the time given them for profits right now rather than later. Therefore the US OEMs, their union workers, and tier supply companies are now assured of death as BEV manufacturers like Tesla have the tech already as well as having developed their own supply chains and internal manufacturing eliminating most of the tier supplier needs. Tesla is even making its own batteries more and more in the US and may soon not need to import them from China to the US.
    EU car makers might survive as a brand but will become Chinese based as to their manufacturing.
    EU union workers are also F'd in soooo many ways. Firstly they are F'd if robotic labor is brought in by the OEMs to try and lower more costs temporarily.... assuming they just don't give up and move all operations to China..... which will completely decimate the EU auto union workers, local tier suppliers, etc etc.
    Let's face it folks, the only OEMs with any chance of surviving this are the US OEMs but they are busily blowing the opportunity.

  • @nickmcconnell1291
    @nickmcconnell1291 11 днів тому

    Jim Chanos was right back then IF by "electric car" you meant one that has just swapped out the ICE for a battery and motors... all else being equal. If that had been all there was to it, and all the public wanted, then the OEMs would have surpassed Tesla.
    However Teslas are almost (except for sheer mechanical parts) completely controlled by software which can be updated and improved remotely. It was this SW defined experience that Tesla delivered that became the benchmark for what a BEV is. Nothing less would measure up.
    So the issue with Jim's prediction is that he didn't understand the tech. He thought that a BEV was just a swapping of drive trains. My guess is that Jim also didn't understand how Apple could ever overtake Nokia.

    According to the FAA themselves (!), SpaceX could have launched test flight 5 previous week IF SpaceX had nod changed their flight plan. Initially Elon said himself that flight 4&5 would be to solve reentrencd issues, and catching would be done on flight 6.
    By changing the objectives, Elon caused the delay completely himself.
