    Getting housing and renting as you mentioned, only applies in the 3 or 5 biggest cities. If you live in a medium-sized city 50-150 thousand, you can get housing immediately, maybe even in the center. There are empty apartments in almost every house.

    About the winters: I had a Romanian guy starting at work and in September he was like: "Why are Swedes so obsessed with the sun? I don't get it." In April he was: "OK, now I have lived through a winter here. NOW I totally get it!" 🙂
    The midnight sun is only a thing in the far north but even as far south as Stockholm, it never gets fully dark around the summer solstice. The phenomenon is know as the "white nights" in Sweden.
    Congratulations on your big day today!

    Its funny you notised the pandemic meme. But for more referance. The waiting for a buss like a swede is an old classic and true, but during the pandemic (or late pandemic) the meme was changed into something like "Oh, we need to stand 2 meters appart from each other, cant wait for the pandemic too go over, so we can go back to stand at least 3 meters apart from each other!" ;)
    Anyhow, Happy Birthday.
    Cheers.

    Uhm trusting might be generally for country but there are still exceptions to this rule.
    Be extra cautious in Malmö, Göteborg or close to a wideopen boarder.

    • @LivingSwedish
      @LivingSwedish  Місяць тому

      Yes, I would be still careful 😅 But if everyone would be trusting like the Swedes it would be all good 🙏

    You say that there is no harakiri in the workplace. I can proudly tell you that in 1983 when I started my first job at the hospital, I was at the bottom of the hierarchy.
    One day I wanted to ask the doctor something and I went straight up to the doctor and addressed him, then the nurse wanted to reprimand me on how to act. I answered her: I completely screw up the ranking, but I talk directly to whoever I want to talk to.
    I don't know if I was the first in Sweden to break the harakiri, but I was then the first at my workplace in my city Kiruna. My action quickly spread like wildfire among the employees, after that day harakiri disappeared at my workplace and I was nicknamed "The Golden Dumpling" because I broke down this harakiri barrier.
    Since this about Swedes not Swedes like small talk, I'm damn sorry for this lie. Because it basically only applies in Stockholm and it's precisely because they think they're better than everyone else, Stockholmers behave like they're at the top of harakiri and don't like being disturbed. Because the higher up in Sweden, the more people like small talk.
    Often when I stand in line to wait for the bus, the train or another line. so you always start making small talk with someone who is also in the queue, even if you don't know the person. Even when I go by bus from my city Kiruna and go down to Gällivare hospital for treatment, you start chatting with others and see and hear others chatting.
    So if you're going to mention if this small talk isn't liked, then say that Stockholmers don't like small talk.
    Because we up in Norrland get offended when we hear from various UA-camrs who talk about Sweden and don't like small talk, because as I said it applies in southern Sweden and in particular Stockholm.
    There is one TV series on SVT called drömmen om Norrland, where a couple first moved to Skåne when they moved to Sweden. Then they were asked why then you moved up to Norrland? Where on the couple answered: Northerners are nicer and easier to talk to.

    There are lots and lots of videos about foreign people living in or visiting Sweden telling you about what surprises or even "shock" them about life here. Most of them contain hilarious misunderstandings and generalizations. Your's however seems very spot on for the most part. The thing a found a little strange is when you talked about taxes. For the vast majority of people, the taxing system is super easy and hardly require any effort at all from the tax payer.

    But Swedish school kids don't normally wear uniforms! ESPECIALLY not with silly details like neckties. Where did you find that footage?

    • @christopherx7428
      @christopherx7428 Місяць тому +2

      Plenty of stock footage, to avoid it just being her talking in a video I presume. The early reference to vacation time shows a background that is not in Sweden.
