It is a solid phone with flagship level processor at a cheaper rate..Seems quite durable..It passes water test and importantly passes bend test... Peeling of the leather back forcibly with a knife doesn't question its durability...Use it with a simple back cover and it will serve you for years

Glass protection wont matter. Even gorilla victus will break if there's a sharp object. I bought a metal and glass sandwich design phone (Poco f3 gt with gorilla glass 5 both front and back) 2 years back and i still regret it. The metal body immediately gets dented with even small drops. The glass back got completely shattered, and again after replacement. Front screen got a crack from one end to other. Now I want a lightweight plastic phone. I will always use tempered glass and a case so it won't matter. So save your money and don't pay a premium for oneplus 12r if you only want build quality.
If the back gets dirty you can easily get a skin or a back cover. Front needs tempered glass anyway.
Sometimes using without temper is gud...but get micro scratches sometime...I change temper every 3 months side 2 months use without temper...but I can't find temper for my phone correctly Every time when using case it comes air bubble / touch issue

I don't think its a bad build quality, After leather there is a good back protection and you haven't talked about side frames, which looks to me is a metal, also phone survived in the bend test.

no one is going to do this on purpose but what about the scenarios when your phone falls into a pool or there is a fire nearby and your phone got stuck in it, this is not very common but it happens and these are just tests to find out what will happen to the phone in those scenarios
