That personal choice could determine your life or death, if you need an MRI scan but you have to delay one because the doctors need to search you for metals in your body and remove them surgically, before you are cleared to be placed into an MRI scanner. MRI scanners generate strong magnetic fields, and metals are not allowed in the vicinity because they can become projectiles and harm the patient and the machine.

If they want to get into the non-racing side, then I guess all drivers and staff when eating need to eat with plastic cutlery to prevent cuts, all meals to be prepared in liquid form to prevent choking and bubblewrap everyone attending any FIA event.

Why can't the FIA (and the media) openly and clearly explain that the measure is for the driver's own safety, in case of a crash and, for example, the need for an MRI scan? Metals need to be removed from the patient before the scan due to the strong magnetic field produced by the scanner. If the driver has something permanently attached to the body which would need to be searched and surgically removed, the delay in diagnosis could be life threatening. Lewis is probably not aware of this, so why is it so difficult for the FIA to clarify the reasons?? Geezus... it's such a small effort to cure ignorance.

it's been a rule in almost any racing category that you can't wear jewelry. Lewis hasn't listened to the rules for years, and is now being called on it. It isn't a step backwards, it's more like enforcing well stated rules that were in place before her even got the piercings.

How appropriate: Dutch centuries old expression: Even if a monkey wears a gold ring, it is and remains an ugly thing"

I'm surprised with all the safety protocols in F1 that the drivers have been allowed to do it. I think is does pose a safety hazard in a high impact, earrings have sharp ends. Necklaces could cut or choke you. I've broken my wrist falling with a watch on. There's plenty of other sports where is it banned. You aren't in the car to make a fashion statement, you are there to be a professional driver. Lewis needs get over his ego, this isn't racism, it's a sensible rule that should of been enforced years ago. The halo got brought in with no recent incidents to force it, so this should be the same.

Totally agree if it is wearing jewellery during the race then I can understand that but after the race I can wear what i want

@@ejsplays3446 Yeah he can wear whatever he wants....outside of the car. You have to remove it to play most ball sports, you have to remove it for some medical procedures. There's reasons for this. This is just another case of Lewis thinking the rules shouldn't apply to him. No one else on the grid has an issue with this. And if you think a thin metal object implanted in your skin cant cause any issues under the right circumstances then there's probabably not much point going on with your argument. This rule has been there for a long time, many fans complained at the lack of rules being inforced last year....Lewis being the biggest one for obvious reasons. So, the FIA has decided to make sure all rules are now followed. People got what they wished, stop complaining!

@@ejsplays3446 FIA are not "creating" anything. This rule has existed for a long, long time. Also, it's about when he's in the car. They don't care about what he wears outside of it, but inside he needs to follow the rules.

Now, I don’t believe this is not FIA personally targeting Lewis anymore. After so many years, they suddenly noticed piercings and elevated it to the main issue. I’d like to finally see FIA doing something good, because for now the only person doing good things for F1, its people and fans is Hamilton and sometimes Vettel. They are the only two speaking up about important stuff, fighting for more people from different backgrounds to feel welcome in the sport, pushing it all to see a better future. If not for Lewis, I would still be thinking F1 is for boring bigoted white dudes who doesn’t care about anything more than themselves. Please, FIA, just come to your senses already. 🙄

@ScarAngusArobiekeActually one of the main reasons lewis lives in Monico is for it's location. I belive Lewis also owns an appartment in London which he pays tax on and if you've come out from under your rock you'll be aware that he sold his private jet 5 years ago so I guess the jokes on you now.

    FIA: Rules for jewellery.
Lewis: "Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! HELP! HELP! I'm being repressed!"
It seems Lewis will stop at nothing to push the narrative that he is raging against the machine in a multi-billion dollar sport.

Drivers and fans are inconsistent about how consistent they want the rules. Such a silly argument. Who the hell can even see your damn jewellery in the cockpit? Just put ‘em on after the damn race.
