I am slapping my forehead here... It NEVER dawned on me to use my watercolor pencils for sketching! I've always used graphite and have sometimes been bothered by the lines I can't erase once the light watercolors are put down. Thanks for the video. Love your work!
My mechanical pencil got stuck and I had to keep up my sketching practice (newbie trying one scene per day since December 2023). So I grabbed a micron 05 pen and did a loose sketch of a slanted door (working on perspective) and I was shocked to see how it went. Will still use pencil because I really am totally new at this, but will definitely move to pen when I get better at sketching. So thanks for the inspiration from all your videos. Then I will have to work on adding watercolors 😬
I enjoyed this so much especially your restructuring part. The underpinnings are done and then you come in with your pen and it all comes together. Brilliant.
I love TobySketchLoose videos. The loose sketching, roughness and spontaneous art style seems effortless. Here, you help us see the progression. Adjustments and nudges towards what you like. As a conversation with the media and subject. I am so critical of my own work that it can be hard to start, easy to quit too soon. Question: Do how do you feel when something goes a bit wrong or the watercolor does something surprising? Perhaps I am anticipating a certain result.
If something unexpected happens I give myself a few seconds to decide if I like it, and if not can I change it... After those few seconds and it's dried... Well you just have to accept it 🤣😜
Thank you so much Toby! I love your style! I'm just getting into painting (at 58) and love this Line and Wash technique - You make it look so fun!!! Keep up the great work!
Awesome! If I use other media out and about, it’s generally the water based Shades of Grey markers and a yellow/white colored pencil or Posca pen. At home, I’ll use those Derwent Graphitint pencils for rocks w/granulating paint ‘cause, why not😊.
Thankyou for sharing Toby. I love the way you work. I recently asked about brickwork and you answered here. I hated the photo, it was clinical and lifeless...your picture was warm and inviting and fun.
Wonderful video, thank you Toby! It might only be on my device but right in the beginning you refer to two video links one on the right one on the left... isit possible that you forgot to add the links? 🙃
Toby, I love all your videos. I have learned so much more from you than from any other resource or class I have taken. Thank you! What is the white marker called? I clicked on the supplies link but it wouldn't open.
Toby, you're a breath of fresh air 😃. Can I ask what that wipe clean green desk cover with squares on is called please? I want to buy one to protect my desk but i have no idea of the name 🙃.

Your voice is so calming and soothing. I get stressed out while working on my artwork, but listening to you helps me stay focused.
I'm so glad!

Excellent! I love watching your paintings come together. I think mixed medium makes art more interesting. You make it modern yet infuse the warmth.
Thank you! Cheers!

Another great video Toby, I will try and follow this one tomorrow.
