October Lull Is A Myth! Tagged Out On My Target Buck!

- BB8, short for Baby Brow 8, earned his name as a 2.5 year old clean 8pt with small brows. Over the years he kept the same frame and short brow tines until he turned 5.5 when he grew G4s on both sides. Although he was fairly regular during the early season, conditions never did line up to get in close to the area he called home. When October rolled around, I knew that the first cold front that hit, we would want to be in a tree overlooking the foodplot that we set up just for him. Regardless of it being the "October Lull", the first deer we laid eyes on as the sun began to fade was BB8. He slowly made his way towards the plot to investigate a younger buck making a scrape and the rest is history!

Great hunt and video, but disappointed we didn’t see more after shot footage. We watch these videos to not only enjoy your hunt with you but learn about the process. Seeing deer behavior after being hit is so informative and helpful. Missed out on that in this one fellas.
We showed him walking off slowly, then stated that he bedded down before losing sight of him. The when we went to look for him that evening found several beds with not a ton of blood so we didnt want to push it. The shot was the bottom of one lung and diaphragm. They can live quite a while on that hit, even though it looks so good initially.

Like your content how do you feel about those auto ranging sights? I feel it takes away from the art of bow hunting... makes things to simple when it is suppose to be a challenge.
We love them and honestly, while they are extremely beneficial from an efficiency standpoint, they don't offer a huge advantage when it comes to killing an animal. It's still a pin that you have to put on the deer while checking all the boxes of proper form and technique in order to make a lethal shot. If anything, just leads to less wounded animals.
It is not a myth, collared deer studies indicate that mature bucks just don't move that much during October as a whole. The rut is where most average joes should be utilizing their time unless they hunt managed lands.
Sure November is better, but October can be a very effective time to kill mature bucks when the weather lines up!
IF a deer walks as far as it did, and doesn't tip over, you need to back out. The minute you were celebrating and filming the deer get across that field and then stand there and slowly walk off it was clear as day it was probably fatal, but not a good hit that was going to kill it swiftly. Nice job backing out and not bumping him.
