Absolutely wonderful playing. Thank you for sharing all your hard work and talent. You You are a wonderful example to all of us who want to follow our dreams and do what we love. Your dedication, devotion and diligence shows in your absolute virtuosity! It’s very inspiring to witness someone so gifted execute the performance of such technical and spectacular music as the same level of the genius mind that conceived it!!!! Bravo Ralf!!! Keep up the good work.
I love your videos, exceptional playing! I was wondering if you ever could make a video talking about the differences between roman and nepolitan mandolins?
That was so beautiful! You play so perfectly! Thank you for sharing. I am glad I found your channel. If it is possible, can you please help me to know where to get my very first classical Italian mandolin to begin lessons? I do not know even which brand or model to look for, that is not too expensive for a beginner. Thank you very much.
Thank you for your appreciation! If you are looking for an inexpensive and nice quality mandolin for beginners, you might want to look for an old (1970-2000) Suzuki mandolin. I often see them for sale quite cheaply, and when in good condition, they can be excellent instruments. Even advanced players use them, like this guy : ua-cam.com/video/YeK4tAkk8H4/v-deo.html This is quite a cheap model from the 1970s and it works perfectly for him. I also had one of these when I was 8 years old. The better Suzuki models like an M50 or M80 can even surpass the quality of the cheaper Calace mandolins (which are much more expensive than the Suzukis) You can also look for a vintage Italian mandolin (Embergher, Calace, de Meglio, Ceccherini, Stridente, etc...), but make sure it is in good condition, so it plays well and intonates well. Some of these are cheap, but require some (expensive) restoration work. Where are you from?... depending on which country you live in, some types and brands of mandolins can be easy or difficult to find. Do let me know if you have further questions or need further advice. (you can write me at ralf@skynet.be)
Sorry for the late reply, I must have missed this message. Let me know what kind and price of mandolin you are looking for, and also in what country you live. There are several possibilities, but it depends what exactly you are looking for. You can write me at ralf@skynet.be
Hi Ralf. Wonderful! If you're taking requests, how about Souvenir de Sicile. I love to hear you play it! I'd love it more if you recorded these and I could buy your recordings on Amazon! Question: How tightly should one hold one's pick? I've had problems forever with it moving around and nearly being pushed ou of my finger snd thumb. The only pick where thos does not happen is a small egg shaped cellulose D'Dario pick I've have for about 20 years (I haven't played much in the past 10). Thanks for any advice!
Very good suggestion, I like Souvenir de Sicile very much and it is certainly on my list of videos to make. For now I do have just a sound recording that I made a few years ago. Send me an email (ralf@skynet.be) and I'll send you the MP3. I hold the plectrum as loosely as possible, but tight enough so it doesn't move. However, it should not take any special effort to have enough pressure. The pressure will of course increase when you play louder, and it is important to reduce the pressure when you play softly, in order to keep all movements as flexible as possible. If the cellulose D'Addario pick works well for you and you like the sound, by all means use it! :-)
@@ralfleenenI just noticed this! Wow. Sorry. I'm using some horn Ranieri picks Listening to this tarantella as I'm writing. Superb! Just heard the fantastic finale. Oh, man. I'm so happy you share your talents with us lesser mortals!

Beautiful individual and ensemble playing. With all the overdubbing I think one can safely say this was the epitome of musical schizophrenia! LOL
