@@Zaunsladde1510 I just did it with what was included in the kit. If you are referring to the fact that I just twisted the ends of the wires, it can be done like that without any issue.
@DanieleGiannattasio yes, but twisting the ends is not compliant with the current technical rules. I know.. I even done it in some private projects too :D The thing is, that you put this online and maybe ppl think that's how it is done. When it comes to 230v connections, you and your followers should stick to some technical rules to be safe. No hate at all fren, I like your videos!
I did just that. But I used 2x RT50B to power 4x 84hp with two busboards as I calculated that the RT50B gives ample +12V for 2x 84hp but a single RT65B does not deliver enough -12V for 4x 84hp.
Over 2 years of using it everyday, zero issues. I'm no expert but it seems obvious to me that if the wires are isolated it's fine, but just to make sure I asked the experts and they said no problem!

This video is amazing! One question: I didn’t see the ground wire (yellow) connecting to the actual Bus Board? According to the documentation it looks like the bus board has a ground hole that is supposed to be connected to the AC Ground. Is this optional?
Thank you! The ground/yellow wire goes from the power socket to the PSU, then there is also a black wire going from the PSU COM to the GND hole on the actual bus board. The wires are connected exactly as shown in the documentation.
I might as well ask here, since I dont know where else. I'm making a DIY synth that only needs +12 -12, no 5v required i would absolutely use this power supply, but after looking at the datasheet, it has really low amp ratings for the -12 rail, like half an amp. (then i would need multiple of these to make the full thing) does anyone know a good alternative with higher amp ratings?
Sorry I can't help with the choice of another PSU, but I know that this one can deliver up to 3,5A at +12V and 1A at -12V lines as long as it can "borrow" the extra power from the 5V line. You may try asking on Mod Wiggler, where I'm sure more people will be able to help you quickly.
Thanks Daniele. I'll take a look. I thought you might work for modularsynthlab yourself :) Cheap Chinese electrolytics have a habit of dying early, especially with the heat contained inside a case so want to make sure they are a decent brand.
@@theguvnor2081 no I don't work for them :) I don't know if they are good quality capacitors but I'm using this kit since I filmed the video and it works just fine. Bobeats has also been using these for a while in his big case, hopefully that's a good indication of longevity!
The guys at modularsynthlab told me that they aim for either Nichicon or Panasonic caps, or at least automotive grade depending on availability. If that's true then it should be decent enough.
that power supply is big enough to power like 9u 104hp easily? just get multiple bus boards? How does the system sound compared to Behringer CP1A or Tip Top power supply? Is there more noise or different character? Just wondering how smooth the DC signals are.. if they are audiophile or not.
I guess it depends on the total power consumption of your system but I believe you might need a second PSU. By the way this one delivers +12 3.5A, -12V 1A, 5V 2A. I did not compare the two side by side but I didn't notice any difference when using the same modules with both CP1A and Mean Well. I used it with a lot of different modules from various different brands and I have experienced zero noise whatsoever.
@@DanieleGiannattasio Thanks for the reply. I think I might get the Mean Well power supply for my little eurorack module development station I want to build with jacks, siwtches, knobs and breadboards.,
Thanks! This is absolutely unique! 👍👍
The music in this video is so calming, I had to watch this video a few times.
Great informational video, thanks for sharing! Took me a few tries to try and stay focused as I kept drifting off into dream land.
price value for thsi powersuply kit is unbeatable
Thanks for this video! Is it possible to connect a dc input (round) instead of the ac & switch input?
To be honest I can't answer that question, sorry! You could try asking them if you plan on buying that kit.
Why you did not crimp the cable endings before connecting to the board??

where did you get the terminal cover?
It will be available on Modular Synth Lab website soon. Check out the description
this looks great! I'm thinking of doing the same. One question: Do you have any ventilation for the power supply to keep cool or is that not an issue?
Not an issue, I keep it on for hours in a pretty hot room (31°-33°) and never had problems.

You should have those mains wires away from the 12 volt ones
Nah this is so real, mans gonna burn up his modules if not his entire house💀

This was lovely, and just what I needed. Thank you for sharing the process! ❤
How hot does the power supply get? I'd like to 3D print a mount with PLA.
Sorry, I can't "safely" answer that, though I don't think it gets dangerously hot. Maybe you could ask the manufacturer or check the specs.
This was a joy to watch
Do you know when the Power Supply Unit will be availabe again?
No but if you ask them I'm sure they will help you.
The Modularsynthlab Team said the PSU would be availabe again in the second week of February

You do not not ground the power supply? Power socket ground to COM?

what are the dimensions of the case ?
6U / 84HP, 9 cm internal depth.

Do you need a fan to manage heat? Does it get very hot?
No you don't need a fan and it works just fine. I'm not sure if the psu gets hot as it's placed under the modules but I highly doubt it.
what model is the Meanwell?
Mean Well RT65B, every part is linked in the description.

Can't really tell... maybe you can take a look at the bus board on their website or contact them directly.

My order came without any documentation or instructions whatsoever.
There should be a picture showing the connection scheme on the kit's page.
