- Not long ago, Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant gave us a rundown of the B5 Systems Bravo AR-15 carbine stock. Now he gives us a similar tour of B5's Enhanced SOPMOD Stock. Both stocks offer nearly the same external ergonomics, but the SOPMOD has internal storage compartments in the "chipmunk cheek" cheek rests. O-ring sealed rubber plugs cap the ends of the watertight, tubular compartments that are tailor-made for batteries, either AA cells or CR-123 lithium cells. But folks store other items in them, too. At the very least, you can pack a tube of ChapStick® in there for those windy winter range sessions!
The SOPMOD has even larger cheek rests than the Bravo stock, so you can achieve an extremely secure cheekweld, making your AR-15 much more comfortable to shoot than with a slim M4-type carbine stock. That secure cheekweld means better control, which typically leads to more accurate shooting.
Just like the Bravo stock, the SOPMOD has a removable rubber recoil pad, with a deep-textured, non-slip buttplate behind it, if you prefer to shoot without the recoil pad. You also get a QD sling swivel socket on each side, and two slots for threading a sling the traditional way. The SOPMOD has the same easy-to-operate, spring-loaded lever for unlocking the stock so you can extend or retract it quickly.
What does the name mean? B5 Systems based the Enhanced SOPMOD Stock on a stock designed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Crane, Indiana (often just called "Crane") for the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). "SOPMOD" is a forced acronym that means "Special Operations Peculiar MODification." Among AR-15 fans, it now mostly stands for a sturdy, comfortable, lightweight carbine stock with handy storage compartments!

What is the ral8000 version difference?
@@jacobdiscipleofjesusforeve419 Just the color
@CalebSavant OK it looks exactly like coyote in the pics??
Legend has it that Caleb keeps a spare tube of hair gel in his SOPMOD stock.
Hes a Dapper-Dan man!
At least bro has hair compared to alot men his age who’s bald!
And ky jelly in the other
Keep an emergency supply of crayons for snacking after stressful situations.
Rah!
Purple taste best
Rah Rah
Beef Jerky in one side, Sweet iced tea in the other.
In the stock I keep batteries for the optics and light and a spare bolt and firing pin. Still has room for a few Skittles. Grip storage has waterproof matches and spare ear plugs. Foregrip storage has small parts kit and Allen wrenches.
Nothin going to cut my range day short!
Does your foregrip have a storage compartment or did you improvise something?
@@ggrmc764 it's a hollow moe grip. I made a black rubber cork that fits it perfectly. Also makes it non slip if you want to use the grp as a monopod.
How does a bolt fit in it? The face is way bigger than a battery.
What grip do you use ? Mine has no bottom. I’d like to find one like this one but close the bottom like my magpul
I store a copy of my suppressor paperwork.
People that say skittles are wrong, they're too loud. Mini marshmallows are ideal
It's not American if it ain't peeps
@@spartan1010101 I'm reporting this comment as peeps are the worst thing to EVER happen to America 😂
Are you a child? Candy? The obvious answer is slim jims
@@tdawg2099put some cigarettes or a tax stamp for any NFA items if you have some too
After grabbing myself the B5 SOPMOD stock, I gotta say… I’m a huuuge huge fan of it! The buttpad is sticky enough to grab onto my clothing well, and the cheek well (or cheek weld?) is my favorite… Super comfortable, and though I was worried about the hole on top of the stock, I’ve not brushed my face against it so it’s a non issue.
Oh, and the battery compartments. Big deal. Needed a stock with battery compartments and the B5 does that well, and the stock also looks really cool so 10/10 from me.
Good place for the Tax Stamp for the suppressor. Main thing is the cheek weld though.
That's a good idea right there.
idk why this channel feels like home. Thank you!
I would like a hard cleaning rod that would fit in the storage compartment to be able to knock out brass from the barrel and to field strip and clean the gun if needed
It's called the Samson SOPROD! I love Samson, can gladly recommend their gear
I believe forward control designs has one too
@@alexmiller5796 yep Forward Controls Design Compact Sectional Rods
I keep a tent and a sub-arctic rated sleeping bag in mine. You just never know when you're going to need one.
😂
Don't forget their P-Grips! Feels great to the hand and another great addition to the AR accessory pool
If you take off the back rubber butt pad theres a slot specific designed for a multitasker m4 tool.
Holy cow! It does! Bless you! I would have not known this if not for your comment!
This is a great stock, got one on my LR-308. Feels nice, welds up nice, and additional storage is always handy.
This is my favorite stock. Ironically I don’t store anything in the storage areas currently.
Survival kit…..tiny compass,matches,batteries,water pur tabs,duct tape,couple of rounds…….365‼️‼️
Had one on my ArmaLite AR-10B A4C...it was Awesome and felt right for the weapon...
Don’t forget the multitasker M:4 tool storage compartment under the buttpad.
I love how the intro music is the default 'hold' music when Im on the phone with multiple places.
Great storage for tylenol, supplements or other meds you may rely on if you had to grad your rifle and leave in a hurry. Pack it tight so there's no rattle. Few high calorie gummy bears and your good to go.
Actually a solid idea here
Hard to get heat soaked gummies out of storage. M&Ms are ok but they get hot and color runs off the hard shell then they melt and they are very hard to get out. Small tube of honey is good, just don't mix it up with the tube of lube in the other side.
Wow that is actually a great idea. A few pills of critical meds and some cotton balls.
The storage compartments fit sour patch kids perfectly
2:32 Spare firing pins and extractor claws and springs on the left and beans on the right.
I have 2 pair of CR123 batteries for my weapon light, I have one lithium AA battery for my LED ACOG, and a lense cloth in my SOPMOD storage compartments. ....I feel like I have something else I may have forgotten about also 😅
Will the 2032 fit? Didn’t look like it to me
@@KamalasVACANTwomb No, can't get a 2032 in there.
It's a great place to hide cash from the wife 😁
Can you do a video about whether or not the ar15 is drop safe?
Think about the trigger construction, you would have to drop it horizontally onto the magwell area to move the sear…not likely to happen or this would have been addressed decades ago. Carry on 😎
It is as long as something like a stick dosnt pull the trigger when dropped. Otherwise just keep it on safe when you're not ready to fire like you're supposed to anyway. you're more likely to be hit by lightning than have it go off.
I wish B5 would come out with some froward hand grips.
I’ve got a B5 Systems vertical forward grip on my rifle. Check their website.🇺🇸
Does Brownells sell tactical chapstick?
would be a lot cooler .... *If they designed a cleaning rod that would break down and fit inside (with patches that can be stuffed in the caps on one side and an oil dropper on the other cap)....
Samson soprod
Bro traveled from the 50's and kept the hair style
I've got a question. Why would you make this video and not show a comparison of the two stock's profiles?
I enjoyed your short biography and history, much respect from my end. Keep the videos coming, very informative..
I can't get my storage compartments open. Do you have to take the stock off the gun to be able to open it?
Yes
Just got mine last week, was hoping a 18650 batterie for my surefire light would fit in the tubes! But it dosent☹️
Lol, one of my favorite power sources for heated jacket, radio, RF meter, USB power supply 😍👍🏻
I have both and love them. Haven’t stored anything yet.
I JUST got mine today and I had to search for this video cause I could NOT open the compartments. so now I know that new ones need some pliers or something to Crack it open
On mine, after twisting the cap to unlock the tab, when I pulled on it, the entire storage tube came out of the stock.🤯 I was then able to hold the tube, and twist and wiggle the cap off with no tools. A dab of Silicone grease, like for your kitchen faucet, will help the o-rings slip a little easier, but still maintain their seal. You could also try drilling a small hole in the grab tab, so you could use the universal cartridge tip tool to help pop it open.
@@analogludite9575 yea I think I ended up taking out the whole tube as well🤣 but that idea of making a hole is not a bad idea at all. I like it so much that I almost bought another lower with the buttstock and grip of B5 included from PSA
I started using those B5 stocks 8 years ago on my AEG Airsoft M4's, we put the Numchuck style NiMH Batt eries in those storage tubes! I liked the storage and feel of the B5 so much I bought some for my 3 AR M4's and store tools, extra batteries for my Holographic sights and Cree Lights. (Capt ret USAF 20th SOS, 27th Spl Ops Wing, 20 years, Nam 70-73 pilot.
Batteries on one side, cleaning rod on the other. Lube, patches, and spare small parts for the BCG in the grip.
Rifle can now be cleaned even if I don’t have my full cleaning kit with me.
My favorite stock just for the cheek weld. I don’t even store anything in it, Lol.
1:20 Skittle compartment 😅
Your rear iron on that rifle looks really effective 🤣
Could you please tell me about the AR Lower on the table? Thank you.
Regular SOPMOD ftw🤙🏻
Just say it. Someone is taking a couple of extra joints with them somewhere.
Nailed it!!!
I felt this the whole time hahah
What length of pull do you guys keep your adjustable stocks at? I’ve been keeping mine 3 notches from the receiver lately.
Skittles. I use mine for skittles. Between the stock, and my grip I can fit almost a whole bag of skittles
Does the SOPMOD or the Bravo stocks collapse all the way in with the Vltor A5 System installed?
I have Bravos and Vltor A5s on a few different rifles. I can't collapse down to the shortest detent position with my Bravo. I can only use 6 out of the 7 locking positions. As I'm sure you're already aware, the A5 tube is 3/4" longer than milspec carbine tubes. The only buttstock I own that can use all 7 positions on the Vltor is the Magpul MOE SL
@@PikeyScott I heard the Magpul STR and ACS also collapses all the way. I dont like the Vltor EMod which works as well…
I would store a pack of MRE skittles in those compartments. You never know when you are out on patrol and want a quick snack.
Forgot to mention the multitasker tool in the but plate.
Batteries for the thermal. Not sure what else
I've got three, I keep 2 small tourniquets in each stock, + batts.
As someone that is subscribed to both this channel and the LockPickingLawer, my "stock stash" might be a bit uncommon: A set of lock picking tools, handcuff key and an assortment of well-known "keyed alike" keys, such as fire dept elevator keys, A Ford Crown Vic fleet key, etc.
I got 1 cr123 battery, and a bolt in 1 tube. 3 cigarettes and matches in the other. Another 2 cr123’s in my moe k2+.
is the angle of the butt pad the same? The sopmod looks flatter while the Bravo looks angled?. Edit: I just checked and they are not the same stock... there are more differences than just the compartments. The angles are different, the texturing is slightly different, etc.
Earplugs, they can help eliminate batteries from rattling, weigh nothing and you always have some hearing protection. Just put them in between the batteries and plugs or you’ll never get em out, ask me how I know.
I have one and it’s ok… not as good as Magpuls better offerings but better than a lot of other stocks. Not a big fan of how the spring works on the adjustment mechanism but other than that it’s good for the price point.
A marine buddy of mine said those storage compartments are perfect for crayons.
Also has m4 multitask took spot under rear pd
B5, Magpul and others are missing the boat with these stocks - the storage tubes need to slightly larger to accommodate the 18650 batteries that people are migrating to for better battery life/performance...
What's the hole in the top for? Is that for adding a cheek riser?
Hate the dumb hole on top. I keep an oops kit in my pistol grip. Batteries in stock.
I removed the storage tubes to lighten it up as I wanted better cheek weld and less weight. it's an option that should have been demonstrated..
Could this be an alternative to the Magpul UBR stock for NRA/CMP high power competition? With no cheek riser it looks like it meets the equipment rules and the storage compartments can be filled with lead to balance out the heavy barrel.
Skittles and m&m's and maybe beef jerky
i have had this stock for 2 years and never realized it had storage. i assumed they were a poor attempt at making the gun float during a "boating accident"
Also its vacuum sealed shut, i cant open it
Can hold 1 chapstick per side, mine has 1 Barq's rootbeer flavor 10/10 would recommend
How does the Bravo SOPMOD stock differ from the original LMT SOPMOD stock?
Seems like a good place for a bore snake.
Love the anti tank weapon in the safe😊
This was my go too because that’s what the gun tubers ran I shot my friends AR and it had the Magpul SL-S and now it’s all I run it’s that good I don’t know why more people aren’t on the Magpul SL-S?🧠🤯🔫
will this fit on a SPEAR LT?
I can’t open mine 😅
Anyone know a trick to get the buttpad off without breaking your thumb?
Great version of the Original stock. I have one.
Guess I could put my tootsie rolls in those small storage compartments.
Would this pass for a "pistol battery holder"?
I love the look of the Sopmod enhanced but they unfortunately don't work for me when Im wearing body armor and shouldering my rifle. Its too wide.
You can put a ferro rod in it with cotton
I guess I got soft hands because I can't get mine to open with my fingers
Please review a product you just emailed me about:
The MK2 Recoil Mitigation System, for an AR15. (BCM-MK2RMS-M1T0)
Thanks!
does it work with a commercial spec buffer tube?
No
One tube is laxatives, one tube is MRE M&M with a paper towel to make him not make noise(tactical M&Ms and tactical laxatives)
Don't own it, but have considered the purchase. To run counterweights to balance a very muzzle heavy rifle.
It's the best!!!! You can put you weeeeed in it!!!
May be able to fit a micro pocket friend in there for those lonely trench warfare nights....haha
Skittles man, Skittles.
No one gonna mention what appears to be an AT6 launcher sitting inside the safe?
Come on. He knows we all have a stash of hair gel stored in our stocks.
I personally store ravioli in there.
You have a rear flip up sight that is completely unusable with the optic mounted in it's current position. Why?
There is a whole video on "why"
@@brownells Ok... what is the video? Is it recent?
The storage is perfect for a tube of mashed potatoes or a beef stick
Will they fit 18650 batteries?
Apparently not. Saw a comment that said it didn’t. Then again, just a UA-cam comment from another person on UA-cam 🤷🏻♂️
@@peterlowell7963 Thanks. I can cram like 50 years worth of optic batteries in my pistol grip. If I'm going for stock storage, I want it to hold a few spare WML batteries.
Is weapon balancing a real thing? Weight distribution
Is bore snake venomous?
I store my Grandmother's age old Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, Poison Sumac ointment, invaluable when bustin' the brush!
I'm intrigued. Do you know the recipe? Poison oak is the bane of my existence!
@@possumpatrol45 Sorry I do not know the recipe.
I just bought mine and for the life of me I can't get the storage caps off with just my fingers
Same. I drilled small holes throw and put the skinniest smallest zip ties on them. That way i have something to pull the plug.
Anybody know if an 18650 battery will fit?
No. It does not.
One extra round if caught behind enemy lines🥺

I keep my skittles in the tubes
